    Thank you Kiley, your "fix" worked perfectly. I can't believe that Ford hasn't recalled this one, they probably never will. Saved a ton of money, so appreciative.

      Auto Makers are only required to recall a safety concern, this isn't. I have the same issue on my 2012 Edge, yes it's quite annoying, if you lock the door your lights go off after 10 min, saving your battery. Although I will probably do this, it's way easier than replacing the switch

    • @trueblue2892
      @trueblue2892 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SFB this is a safety issue. What if you’re in a bad area or alone at night and your doors won’t lock bc the car thinks the door is open...unsafe

    Just did this with my 2012 Ford Edge Sport - worked just as you said. Just to be clear for anyone else who wants to do this, there are two purple-striped green wires in that cable run. As mentioned in the video, cut the thinner one. It's not much thinner, but if you look closely you'll see that it is. Thanks for the demo! Saved me $450 - 500!
    Also, If you don't like the idea of your radio continuing to play for a few minutes (or so) after you leave your car, just open and shut the passenger door before you get out. That'll stop the music.

    • @drsandyandrews4315
      @drsandyandrews4315 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do I open and close the passenger door before I get out of the car? I assume you mean open and close the passenger door before I close the driver door?

    • @drsandyandrews4315
      @drsandyandrews4315 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ignore my first comment. I was picturing the back passenger door. , Next question, instead, couldn't I turn off the radio before exiting the vehicle? Seems easier than opening and closing the passenger door. Thanks.

    Thank you for making this video. The brake cleaner worked for like 5 seconds and after my husband and I being woken up half a dozen times to the alarm going off, I was forced to leave my car unlocked. Dealer wanted to replace the latch at a cost Im not willing to shell out. It literally took me 5 minutes to do this and was free! Brooooo, I've been dealing with this issue for no word of a lie, 2 - 2 1/2 years now. Mostly because I'm too cheap to pay the $1200 bill that my local ford shop would say it would cost me (what a joke) but also because I wasn't willing to follow some of the hacks on youtube that call for you to literally hammer out the sensor! Wih the nicer weather here, I'll be 100% giving this a go on my 2013! Cheers and thank you man!

    THANK YOU!!!! This is amazing. I will probably eventually replace the actual switch, but this is great for a quick/cheap/fast fix.
    PLEASE NOTE: It's the THINNER green & purple wire. I thought you meant cut the green wire with the thinner purple stripe, but realized you meant the thinner green and purple wire overall. If you happen to do what I did (and cut the wrong one first - bigger one) your driver window will likely go out. All you have to do is put the wire back together with a butt connector and then replace the #32 fuse and my power window came right back.
    Only thing is that the computer still stays on when you leave the car since it doesn't know you opened the door (and when it usually turns off). So you can open & close the passenger door to turn it off. Others have said it eventually turns off on it's own, haven't tested yet.
    Overall - big thanks Kiley!

    Just did this.
    I wanted to do this as a last resort, but the other solutions didn't work for me. (Electronics cleaner/breaking the tab off) Getting this replaced at a dealership was entirely out of the question as well, no more $ for Ford. When I got to the point where I was about to smash the door with a hammer out of frustration, I decided to just take the risk and go for the snip.
    There are a lot of questions about which green wire it is, here are some tips to find it.
    1.There are actually 3 green/purple wires. 2 are the same color green, the other is different. It is not the different colored one.
    2. When looking through the wires, I found the correct one way in the back of the bunch.
    3. Take each green/purple wire in each hand and feel the thickness. It is a VERY small difference in size, but the smaller one is the correct one. Trust your gut and snip that bitch.
    4. You will know that you got the correct wire because the dome light will flicker as you ground it to the nut.
    This not only solved the issue of the door ajar, but also solved the issue of the 2 loud annoying beeps when you get out of your edge with your keys. For me, that is the best part of this because my God was that annoying. Good luck friends!!!

    Anyone who has a problem with the rear door sensor, there is a small connector in the rocker panel where the driver seat belt is located.
    Remove the molding and the plastic panel. Then there is a small connector, pin 5 of that connector has a green wire, cut the wire and ground it, as shown in this video.
    Hope it helps

    just a note on doing this...it may not work because it didn't work for me. I replaced the door latch myself...its a pain in the ass and took me some time to do it but it's the best way to solve the problem IMHO. Some people are putting up videos showing you how to short out a wire (green with a purple stripe) but there are several of them so choose wisely. I did this and lost the ajar on my dash but I also lost my drivers power window. Now the fun began...replaced the motor, nothing so I started fuse checking per the manual, #1 fuse was fine but if you don't know this, there is another fuse for that window...#32. I checked that and it was blown...problems solved. The site I found this on is www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-an-electrical-relay-and-wiring-control-circuit
    This was an expensive endeavor but it's done.

    I’m going to try this fix tomorrow morning. This door ajar issue is no annoying. Can’t lock the doors automatically, lights stay on in the car when the engine is off causing battery drain. And now I think my battery is toast because when driving while accelerating the instrument panel lights turn off and only come back on when I’m brakes. I just recently replaced my alternator, so I know that’s not the issue.

    Hey guys, I had the problem of my dome lights not turning off, but I didn't have the door ajar message. Turns out if the lights dimming dial in your car is turned all the way up till it clicks your dome lights will stay on. So all you have to do is turn the dial down and your dome lights should turn off.

      I did the same thing. At first I had a Low Oil Pressure light on, put it back together and then that was gone so I thought that was it. Then I realized my driver window wouldn't work so I think it's to that - it blew the fuse for that and I had to replace the fuse (#32).

    question, to make sure you cut the right wire and not the one to the power window, can you cut one (don’t ground) and then check if the power window work? if the don’t, reconnect and cut the other one and try windows again? just asking because im really bad at electrical stuff.

    • @kileywarford1

      If you happen to cut the incorrect wire and your window quits working, its just a fuse that pops from being grounded. Just reconnect that wire and replace the blown fuse.

    • @mygt8a4re
      @mygt8a4re 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I know your question is a yr old, but for those researching & curious, grounding it is connecting it to the chassis (via bolt connected to the body). The upper end of the wire can just be left alone, it does nothing now that the wire is cut. The lower part of the wire is what needs grounded (connected to body) as this wire goes back to the main harness. Grounding it is the same as shutting your door, it closes the connection telling the pcm the door is shut, removing the "door ajar" error.

    • @terminalhobbes
      @terminalhobbes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ryan-ns8xu Yeah it is a "feature" of the car to let the radio play for 10 minutes once the car is turned off. If it sees that the driver door opens, it will turn it off since this technically means the driver is exiting the vehicle. Now that the car always thinks the door is closed, it will continue to play the radio for those 10 minutes unless you open the passenger door to tell it to shut off. It is kind of a minor annoyance, but imho it's nowhere near as annoying as the door ajar problems and all the issues that came along with it.

    So i have all but confirmed that i blew my window motor, turns out there are 3 green and purple wires in that bunch 3rd time was the charm. hope i didn't blow anything else. FYI this was my own fault for being lazy. To avoid this use a multimeter scrape the wire covering a little and check for voltage. If there is voltage present you have the wrong wire.

    • @JBTYpr
      @JBTYpr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the correct wire for me was waaaay in the back, i had to dig for it a little. It is very thin with a very thin purple line, and it is most likley not the first one you will see. also i used a wire splicer instead of cutting the wire.

    • @JBTYpr
      @JBTYpr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Follow up: fixed the window. Have confirmed that The window motor control module blows. They dont sell it seperatly anywhere so you can only get it bundled with a new or used window motor. Make sure whatever you buy has the little gray box attached that the harness hooks ups to because for some reason some sellers sell the motor without it. You will also need to replace fuse 32. Save yourself time and money and use a multimeter to check for voltage before you fully cut and ground out the wire.
