  • Nobody enjoys fish cleaning and the challenge when done is to get rid of the fish guts. Well, my solution is to turn those into fish guts fertilizer and use the fish guts in garden.

I am working on a grinder piped into my pond to feed the fish there. Just a small farm pond but fun for the kids of the family.

My cottage neighbor used to put them into an old blender bones and all and create a slurry he would put back into the lake. I would watch as it attracted all kinds of fish to feed on it.

For us, some gets used as bait, some goes into the pond to feed the fish and turtles, some feed the crabs, and we have buried some (not always deep enough to keep coyotes and raccoons out though 🤢).

I used some in my Fly Traps around my home to keep the flies away from my dogs and also as bait for my crab traps.

I try to feed the crabs or gulls. Every once in a while a get a heron that wants in on the action. I only bring back the meat and i usually cook it that day.

I’ll keep schooling freshwater fish, White bass, Crappie and a small catfish or 2, but love Flounder Reds & trout. I clean at the water when possible and legal and recycle back into the lake or bay. I put some in the garden also. I work on a ranch and put them in a field. Game cameras show fox, raccoons, skunks, buzzards, hawks and lots of other animals love fish too. Mmmmm Good! Have a great one Steve!

Salt water or brackish water fish intake the guts back to where I caught them to drop back in. The crabs love them. If I had crab traps I’d be using them as bait.

If it's just soft guts, I wash them down the black tank hookup for my RV. If it's carcasses left over from filleting, I freeze them until the next garbage pickup day and then just toss them in the can with the rest of the garbage.

I seen that in many controlled fishing lakes or ponds ,etc, from time to time they bring fish from a hatchery and release thousands of fish into this body of water so people can keep fishing and keep coming ,I guess that`s why is state run, they charge for entrance, fishing licenses ,charge for bait, boat and kayak rentals, manage restaurants or food stands ,etc, etc. so they never run out of fish or people who enjoy the outdoors and welcome to come ! and is good for the environment to keep those lakes alive for everyone!...is all about wild management here in Cali.

Wow I catch the fish. Get a wet rag and clean him if he's muddy I scrub a little harder. Then let him go. I let him keep the guts. Humor. That's great fertilizer.

You would have to bury it deeper than that in my area. The varmits here , raccoons, possums, cats, etc would have that stuff all over the yard!
