    €780 is £670 re rent. Shed £100,000 is €117,000. Croydon app £525,000 is €616,000.

    Great info, grazie! Southern California is very expensive too. Average 1 bedroom apt/flat ~$2000 (€1700), higher if near the beach. Bottle of decent wine $12 (€10), pint of craft beer $7 (€6), Margherita pizza $13 (€11), 1 shot espresso $1.75 (€1.50). Our public transit is poor, so you pretty much have to have a car to get to work, etc, and we pay a ton for health care. Oh, and US mobile plans are more expensive than Italy. Yes, our salaries are higher, but it costs so much more to live here.

    Interesting points. As someone who lives in the North of Italy (Lombardia), I find I spend the same as London excluding transport (have my own). However, when in the South the cost was drastically low and was able to save a lot. Mind you when in London there’s so much going on and all is to be paid for. In the South of Italy while there are less activities to do, you can at least arrange outdoor activities which are free. The thing with London is gentrification is driving up massive increases, Brixton for example was an undesirable and low priced area until 5 years ago, Croydon has great public transport links so that also lead to gentrification happening. I know people who invested in South of Italy, and it turned out better to rent as you mention, as renting in the area was cheap and selling it was difficult as not many were able to put offers relating tot he market. The main thing that keeps me in North Italy most of the year compared to London is the crime rate and weather.

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree so much with the gentrification of areas in London - literally you would have million pound houses on one road and then neglected council owned blocks of flats, just around the corner! Weather and crime rate - yes there is no comparison! Everyone has told me how the North is so much more expensive than the South - swings and roundabouts I guess!

      @@MsBritaly it’s so true!! There was a stamp duty holiday in the UK recently, which made people go over the top and start bidding wars with others but I believe many have potentially over paid for their homes because of this. Yeah quality of life, and people sound nicer in the South. As a South Londoner being in the North just doesn’t feel like home- a lot of ‘me, me, me’ attitudes

      It is fascinating this divide within Italy! For me the warmth of the people makes an incredible difference to my experience here

      @@MsBritaly yeah it’s lovely! If you ever lived towards Kent in the UK (Chislehurst, Bat & Ball, Folkestone, Whitstable and places like that) its very common to know your neighbors well and for one another to share things that one doesn’t have or ask for favors but I think it’s because these are more like ‘village areas’- it’s nice! Those in the north of Italy need to be a bit more friendly towards one another

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I know some of those areas well - Sevenoaks etc it is the same. They are more close knit in terms of community in those places

    Very good points. I've lived near London for many years, and comparing prices in my case to Rome (where I've been planning to go more longer-term), I've noticed a huge difference. Food, eating out, transport, property prices etc.
    In terms of food, it tends to be much fresher, more options (of the foods I like) and cheaper... so what's not to like? :)

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s true - the food here is reason enough to move!

    • @renatomacchi2195
      @renatomacchi2195 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please don't move to Italy. We have a different Roman Latin culture and way of life different from all you and we don't want you to come here and change us. It's time for our government to stop making it easy to come and remain in Italy and buy house which should only be sold to Italians. The more of you and the more we're going to be angry and their friendliness will change when they look around and see that their cities have been taken over by strange with different and incompatible behavior. Stay where all of you are.

    Love that you talk with your hands. What would you say a tropical meal for two people at a moderately priced Salerno restaurant would cost? Yes I know it depends what you buy but just you and your boyfriend as an example. I felt London was a bit pricey compared to Other places

    • @MsBritaly
      @MsBritaly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok so I’ll give you a recent example. This was a restaurant in the centre of Salerno -
      Wine on tap (included in the cost)
      First course (1x pasta with fish 1x pasta with meat)
      Second course (2 x meat dishes - beef and chicken) we totally broke the unwritten rule about not mixing meat and fish dishes!
      One desert shared (because I was so full!)
      Limoncello x4 (it was that good!)
      Total €50
