That's why they're sooo good in their live performances because even before their formal debut, they were live performers first. Their humble beginnings are truly inspiring. ❤❤❤

10:25 Yes, WISH is actually quite big here in PH. They're like MTV or MYX but they're more unique (primarily because of the bus, but also their format). Do you know why it's a BUS of all things? Their rationale was to bring music everywhere, even the farthest regions of the Philippines. So they made studios INSIDE buses so that they can showcase live performances on-site while being live on air at the same time, kind of like traveling troupes back then but broadcasting throughout as well. The best thing about this is that they can archive all the performances and make it available for those who missed the live!
WISH got really big thanks to TH-cam which is a staple amongst Filipinos (anyone who can access the internet would probably visit YT just to chill). More importantly, the diasporas abroad reconnect with PH's news, events, entertainment largely through YT (and it's not a secret that Filipinos are very sentimental). Thus, WISH provided an avenue for those people who either miss PH's music or wants to get updated. There really isn't a Filipino "genre" because that's stupid, pop is pop, however Filipinos really love the way Filipino artists sing--that's exactly why our artists vocals are powerful because our standards really value rich, raw vocals regardless of the genre or style of music. At the same time, WISH is able to showcase these talents abroad to foreigners (i.e. reactors) and that also adds to their influence.
That's why WISH became so big in a few years only--a little over a decade, I believe? At one point, OPM actually almost vanished because we were saturated with KPop and other foreign music so much so that you could see artists trying to gain traction through covers. That is not to say that foreign music is bad, but the people almost neglected OPM and there were hardly originals coming up the surface. On the other hand, the underground/indie music scene was very much alive, but they were a niche and not a lot of common people knew about them. Their influence did spread once millennials and gen z's grew up, gained consumer power, and spread the word through social media and TH-cam. You could say it was them and the WISH bus that revived OPM. It's no wonder why WISH got so much revenue to eventually host large award ceremonies.

I didn't find out about this group until after their US tour had already concluded. I stumbled upon their appearance on Good Day New York while watching TH-cam and I got intrigued so I started looking them up. I think their Zack Sang interview was the first interview that I watched and it really touched me how humble and genuine these guys are. I love OPM ballad songs so I was immediately drawn to their music. I think getting to know them by watching interviews and watching their vlogs on TH-cam is what actually lured me in and I'm now a fan. They really are more than just talented. I love a good backstory and this group's story and journey are truly inspirational.

One Fact about how Ms Hongganda trained them is
They didn't only train on their dancing, singing, rapping and acting skills but also training theirselves how to be humble and be who they are, show people with respect and to always look back on their humble beginning so they wouldn't lose theirselves while reaching their dreams
They are taught how to be a respectful and humble people
Trained how to be the best version of theirselves
And I think they really put it not just in their mind but also in their hearts and souls

Through this interview, I became a fan of SB19. I don't know what got into me but when the start flashing the old pics of Mahalima while singing in acapella, tears rolled down my eyes and I can't help it but cry and cry as if I saw all their struggles before someone discovered them. It really touches my heart. It became a tradition of mine eversince then that every July 11 (which is the released date of that interview and also my A'TINniversary) to rewatch that video to celebrate my love for the boys 💙

    Enjoyed your RV 🥰
Incidentally, if you guys do wish to visit Phil, try off season period fares may come a bit lower. Usually peak period to the Phil is from Dec. 15 to Jan 1 since that is the height of Christmas to New Year's celebration, but it is family time so many travel back for the holidays even if fare is expensive. Next best period is right after Jan 15, to May ..but it all depends too how much you can tolerate Pinas sweltering heat and humidity by then. But it is the best window of time to visit the islands and beaches. From late May to mid Nov is dicey rainy period, since that is the season where we have most of the typhoons. So fares may be lower but weather may hamper plans a lot, all depends how much time and patience you guys can endure our fantastic torrential rains after all it is a tropical country. But it is our motherland, so we grew up and took all those things in stride. I am glad SB 19 is giving you guys a good sampler of how things goes there and makes you curious about our Philippine culture. Looking forward to more of your reactions. 👍

OH MY GAAAH! I had a feeling they had it really rough but hearing them describe going HUNGRY, sleeping on the floor, borrowing money so they can attend training, buying their own makeshift costumes… it made me feel really bad for them.
Performing OUTSIDE a mall? Before 7, 10, 20 people? AAAGH! How mortifying!! But drawing strength from the motley audience just the same???
Now i understand why their fans love them so fiercely and why the mahalima (mahal=love, lima=five: beloved five) symbolize faith and hope in overcoming adversity and hardship!
I’ve really only been a detached observer then casual admirer of SB19’s journey, but after watching this series of RVs (I didnt watch the original interview) man, OH MAN, hefty respect to the boys and A’tin.

It's cheaper if you book from LAX to Manila. Book a flight from your home state to LAX, then LAX to MNL.

This interview is incredibly great! The interviewer is so incisive and empathetic while SB 19 members were so candid and humble. Kudos also to the great translation.
