Watch KwentoJuan ep 5 & 6. Each member of SB19 shared more in-depth experiences in that interview on how they started. To give you an overview of their timeline, ShowBT (their company) was established in 2016 here in the Philippines. Pablo was among the first to be recruited on the onset of the company being established that is why he said he trained for 3 years. Josh and Stell were among the first batch who auditioned. Justin joined their company’s workshop in late 2017 while on his senior year in the University and was offered by the company to be a trainee. Ken joined the online audition and was offered to become a trainee 1st quarter of 2018. SB19 debuted on October 26, 2018. Josh and Stell are co-members of a K-pop dance cover group called Se-on (They became champions and met BTS when they were starting). Josh was the one who informed Justin of the workshop and Ken of the online audition.

Yes I loved that interview!! I think they opened up more because The Juans were good friends and in the business. I feel it felt truly as a discussion amongst friends and why they opened up even more. It was different in feeling than with a regular interviewer they didn't know like that, on a friend level.

The company that trained them was an events company, not a very big company too. So, even if they're trained using the kpop system to train artists, they weren't given stipends or food allowances nor living accommodations while training. The company provided the studio, the training, the trainer, and exposure but money-wise, it is all up to the 5 of them to provide for their basic needs (food, clothing and accommodation). BTW, I also love these artists' with such deep background stories. Truly inspiring. Makes me feel proud of them. ❤

For a very intimate and emotional interview, watch Kwento Juan episodes 5&6. It’s a two part interview which will give such a deeper insight about who they are and their struggles (like bouts of depression). Josh’s vlog where he shared his experiences is such an emotional ride as well.

there's nothing more nicer than watching people who keeps an open mind about a specific discussion. especially from something that they're not that very familiar about and just patiently and slowly absorbing the right information that you need to know to get to know them more. so, thank you! for investing time and searching for credible contents and not to those sick a$$ content creators who don't give a dang wether they'd put the boys to an unwanted spotlight just so they can get the views and likes they want.
there's actually a lot more contents like this and those information that you may get actually came from themselves. moments where they were comfortable enough to share their vulnerable side to the public just like KWENTOJUAN episode 5&6 and their WHAT? making film. that content very much focuses on their struggles as a team, as a group and even their personal battles that pretty much every fans aren't aware of not unless they make contents like that to showcase the "raw" preparation for what they have prepared for everyone.

So basically Josh connects most if not all of them. Before they auditioned in their current company, they were all pretty active in the kpop covers dance community. Josh and Stell were in the same group who usually won 1st place in the competitions that they joined in. At some point, one of their competitors was a dance crew which Ken is a part of. That’s how Josh and Ken became friends.
At some point, Josh and Justin met and were a part of another dance crew as well. While everyone else is competing in the dance category, Pablo competes in singing/rap category. Josh knew of him then but they were not necessarily friends.
So before auditioning in their current company, Josh was already friends with Stell, Justin and Ken but the three were not friends with each other i suppose. Josh was the one who invited Justin to attend workshop in their company and from there Justin was then urged by their teacher to become a trainee. Also, Josh invited Ken to audtion when they were looking for the final member of SB19.
Fun fact: the final decision to choose the final member of SB19 were left by the company in Pablo, Stell and Josh’s hand. All three of them chose Ken.
Also, the company is an events company, and from what I understood what they were looking for at the time were event performers who could perform during parties and other events. Hence, their experiences in performing for Korean grannies, Chinese events, formal functions were they were servers and singers at the same time, orphanages and so on. I guess the company never really intented to formally debut a group of singers to be like mainstream singers in the first place. It just happened that they realized how talented the boys were and that it would be a shame to waste that hence it was later on decided that they would debut as a boy group.
I think they were given little allowances maybe out of the earnings that the company gets from the events that they cover. And that the trainings were at first not meant for boy/girl group type like what they do in South Korea but instead, those seem like trainings for them so they could perform well during the events covered by the company or on events they were hired to perform since as mentioned above they were just meant to be event performers in the first place.
From what I understood as well from their interviews, even though they were supposedly trained under the “kpop training system” but the company slightly modified their rules to accomodate the Filipino culture based on what will work for the trainees as they apparently argued that what works for Koreans may not necessarily work for Filipinos.

Cant wait for the next part. I will also suggest Korean Times interview and Kwento Juan. The latter is more in depth and talked about their humble beginnings. Each member told their back stories before joining sb19. Also the struggles they faced during training days and how their life change after they became viral and become the nos. 1 PPOP group in Phils. They are the trail blazer. And because of them many are inspired and now it became a community. TV Networks and big companies are now producing PPOP groups.

12:43 - To know how difficult for SB19 to start with because of this perception, you should look for the Go Up press conference where reporters were outright rude to them, always stressing that they're copying KPOP. They handled it the best way they could, as young as they were at the time, and tried to be professional. You can't help but root for them after that interview.

Hello! If you really want to know more about SB19, you can watch their Kwento Juan interviews Episode 5 (The Struggle in the Hustle) and Episode 6 (The Trophy Made of Trials) which can be found in TH-cam. Watching the interview will give you an in-depth look into their journey as each member gets to share their personal experiences before they debuted as a group.
I also agree with what you said: watching these interviews is better since the information is coming straight from members of SB19 themselves. You might also be interested to know that SB19 makes their own docu-series as well. They have one for "What?" and "WYAT". You can find these in their official TH-cam channel. Thanks for taking the time in getting to know SB19. Enjoy your vacation. 😊

Food, accomodations & transportation ws all on them. When one has no packed food they'll just shared & when one has no money for fare they just borrow to those who has extra (usually to Justin). That's why their brotherhood is amazingly admirable. 💙

Since it is a korean company training was meant to hone those who have raw talents. And in those trainings they developed that discipline and loyalty to your craft. Stell Josh and Ken started as dancers rapping and singing were part of the training that they all became a well rounded and versatile entertainers. Inspite them not having salary they get valuable lessons that is the foundation of what they are today.
During the time of Rain (Korean celebrity) I read that they were locked in the room until they perfect their dance steps. So if you train that much you put so much value to yourself as entertainer and not feel that you just got lucky to have the voice and the looks. So generally speaking that is the star quality they are looking for then train later.

Their Korea Times Interview is one of their earliest interviews and it gives you a glimpse of how they got together, how they were trained, their influences, etc.
Also, the WHAT?: The Making Film and WYAT (Where You At): The Making Film are two docu-series from their official channel - both worth checking out as they showcase how the music was made, the thought process behind the MV's, how the choreography was conceptualised, what preparations were made for the MV shoots, including teasers, promotional shoots, etc. -- you'll get to see the technical aspect of everything but also how much blood, sweat and tears were put into their music, choreo, MVs, etc. by each member and by the team behind their success.

12:46 In my own perspective/opinion (or as far as I can remember) before the hallyu wave, OPM, though struggling, is strong. You would always listen to OPM (along with very popular western music, but still there’s a lot of room for OPM) in the radio, in tv, in MYX, in MTV Philippines, in restaurants etc. but when KPop really boomed in the PH (along with kdramas, or parang nauna pa ngang matanggap yong kdrama kasi tagalized naman, madali, masa ganun), and it started to chart in MYX, of course a lot of Filipinos welcomed it but a lot didn’t liked it too, especially avid OPM supporters, listeners, patriots, you know those group (BUT there are also those who like both, or like everything, opm, kpop, jpop, west, etc.) so anyways, I personally have prejudice against kpop back then (don’t @ me, I was young then, patriotic etc. PERO even when I don’t listen to kpop then, I never talk ill about it or talk ill about people who listen to it. It’s just my feeling back then).
So now, I think a factor or a percentage of those criticisms on ppop in comparison to kpop is probably due to that history (and we know there are still people who are judgmental on what music other listen too). And sometimes people are just really critical to something new or foreign to them but ofcourse in no way that justifies like bad or personal attacks to people. Mema lang.
But for me, the strength of SB19 is their music, the lyrics, etc. They are very OPM if that makes sense (I’ve listened to a few bgyo, alamat, bini but not a lot so my opinion is hilaw pa) and they are very relatable and yes underdog in comparison to other groups backed up by huge networks or companies (like ABSCBN or VIVA) and we love underdogs don’t we? and ofcourse, needless to say, they are good. Other PPop group are rising too, eventually it will be a normal thing. And other artists, solo, bands (my personal favorite, alternative rock bands) are also creating new music so it’s a good thing for OPM.
This is also why Wish Bus is a hit because it brought back the OPM we used to listen in MYX. And it give opportunity to a lot of artists, different genres, group, band, solo, new and old.
    Mabuhay ang musikang Pilipino :)

    Hi, thanks for reacting SB19.
I recommend the interview of The Juans to SB19, it is more in-depths. It has 2 episodes. I came to like them more after watching this, not because I pity them, but because of how they handle their life against all the obstacles and struggles. I like how determined and passionate they are. They are inspiring.
You can check the link below. It has English translation as well.

Hi please react to SB19 Love Goes acoustic version this is the first song that they recorded. They sung a lot of version of this song and every version is different they have EDM version and also they sung the song on you tube fan fest together with GO UP. They did not release the song instead they released Tilaluha first because it was a Tagalog song to cater for Filipino audience. Thanks❤❤❤

Filipinos love music, that's for real. It's just that some Filipinos, doesn't like our co - Fil to be a "copycat" of anything, . I myself is guilty of that. 3 years ago, I was not paying attention to SB19 because that's what I thought, they're just "copycats". I hate it for real. But when I found out that they create their music, everything has changed. I respect them so much.
We are really that" perfectionist" that if we've seen something "imitating" and can't even pull it of, we don't like it. That's our attitude, I guess. ( Not all)
