    I’m using MS OneNote and it is great.
    Also another benefit of Apple Notes that if you add pictures you’ve taken like photo of receipts and add it to notes- then the search will find it because apple is scanning the photos and index also the texts that it scan from the picture - which is brilliant

    Great video. Huge fan of The Notes app. My loyalty to Evernote is waining for two simple reasons. One, the HUGE bump in the subscription fee and two, discovering the GoodTask app which integrates beautifully into the Apple eco system. It makes Apple Notes, Reminders and Apple Calendar work together through 1 application. FYI, I don't have anything to do with the company, I just wanted to share a good product with like minded Mac users.

    Apple Notes is where it's at for me. Since I'm also Ride-Or-Die Mac, it's just accessible everywhere I want to be. I can copy text and share it to a Quick Note with two clicks. I have a Siri Shortcut where I can dictate whatever is on my mind to a Daily Note and clear it during my Daily Planning. It shares so well with Reminders that meal plans, planning session checklists, etc. are right where I need them when I need them.
    Other apps can do cool stuff, and I do use Obsidian for large, research-based projects (like running my D&D campaigns), but for my day-to-day life, Apple Notes works the best.

    I’m with you on this. In the early days Notes kept crashing on me so I ignored it for years. Lately, I’ve been using it again and it really is the bees knees. As you say, it has just the right amount of functionality for those quick ideas. Also, you can create bulleted lists which can be linked into Reminders for timed activation. Great for such as shopping lists where you can reactivate items by simply tapping the “done” buttons to clear them for reuse.

I use Evernote for everything else non-sensitive as I do NOT trust Evernote security, Evernote "packability..." or Evernote's evil, constantly-changing, management... PERIOD. 😊 And, I never will trust Evernote, even though I enjoy it for much of my non-sensitive info.

    A great video as ever Carl - thank you. I was a loyal and paid up EN user since 2008. I jumped ship to Apple Notes over a year or so ago. Absolutely no regrets. In addition to what you said in your video, it’s worth saying the support for Apple Pencil is another good reason to switch. Ie ‘writing’ or drawing diagrams etc . Also the integration with other apps such as reminders make it fantastic. Only thing I’d love to see is to take a leaf out of MS OneNote and give us an ‘infinite canvas’ ie the ability to combine text , writing and drawing anywhere on the page.

    I use Apple notes for everything in life and business. I started a freelance business 4 years ago. I started trying to manage my workflow with spreadsheets, Trello, dipped into Evernote, even Asana... but they just didn't work for me. But 2 years ago I moved (almost) entirely into the Mac ecosystem. Luckily, this was at just the right time as Mac had updated the notes app. Now, my business is not very complicated (it's just me), so managing customer details and projects in notes is very doable. And since all of my family are Mac users, too it makes family comms easy.

    Apple Notes has improved tremendously over the years and it's even better in iOS 17 with the ability to link to other notes (finally!). While I use Obsidian for long-term writing and research, most everything else in my life lives in Apple Notes. All personal stuff as well as links and other scraps of information go into Apple Notes. It's very powerful and works nicely with Apple Reminders as well. I am really liking what they have done with Apple Notes in iOS 17 too.

    I am in a mixed ecosystem so I try to stay away from Apple Notes (I use OneNote) but I would agree it's very good. The one thing you didn't mention is that it's natively integrated with all iOS, iPadOS and MacOS devices so you can always share and collaborate with other Apple users without wondering if they have the write notes app. Very powerful.

    After being an Evernote paid user for 13 years, I am now in the process of moving all my notes from Evernote to Apple Notes because Evernote has become a sluggish nightmare when it comes to sync.
    With that said, Apple Notes isn’t replacing Evernote… Apple Notes AND Craft is replacing Evernote. I absolutely LOVE Craft for work and all my creative endeavors because of soooo many reasons.
    Craft is also searchable via Spotlight… but only the note title. Hopefully they bring full note search-ability in the future.
    Plus, Craft was built for iOS and Mac. It’s buttery smooth. It’s like Apple Notes with some pep.
    What I’d love to see is the ability to send emails from mail directly into Apple Notes and/or Craft. It’s the one thing I can do with Evernote that I can’t do with those two apps. I’d also love to see Apple make Notes via browser a better experience. It’s kinda clunky.
    Good stuff as always, Carl!

    • @Jivolt
      @Jivolt 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Carl_Pullein Exactly. Apple Notes is perfect for pretty much anyone. Craft is perfect for those that have been using Apple Notes but want a little more punch.
      I’m glad that Craft understood the importance of revenue in order to keep a platform going and offered paid tiers early on.
      I still love Apple Notes, though. But Craft offers features that help keep my work and creative stuff more manageable. The toggle feature is a godsend when it comes to projects that have a bazillion details and tasks.
      I’m really excited about the future Apple Notes now that Apple is putting more into it. Can’t wait for the ability link notes in iOS 17!

I'd type a note in Apple Notes (either on the Mac or the phone and wait for it to sync. Well... I was too new to the iOS system to know that Quick Notes were not a thing at that time for phones. It worked on iPads but not the phone. Once I learned this (after much frustration), I was able to use it but you know, I haven't touched it on my phone in a long time. That distrust is still there. I do use it weekly for encrypted notes. On my phone I have an app that I use also on the desktop so I'm good. On the iPads I use whatever seems the most likely place I'd want to find it. Like you, quick stuff like links or ideas.
    I've been with Evernote probably as long as you have, I have moved data from it over to what I use now, but I haven't deleted anything. I'm just not using it out of distrust and frustration with where it's gone and the pricing changes. A long time ago it was out of my price range with the exchange rate being the biggest killer for me.

      Hi Gaelyne, that's the great thing about productivity. It's a journey, and we fall into that practice of asking how can I do it better.
      As for the videos, I am "changing" things a little. A big change will be coming in the next video. (I'm a little nervous about it)

    Apple note in iOS17 will include a way to link to other notes. If they would add backlinks, then I would completely free from Obsidian.

      Hi Masoon, that's because it's a note-taking application, not a word processor. If I want to change fonts, colours and have more feature-rich tables, I would use Pages.

      @@Carl_Pullein for me the purpose of notes app is to make notes that can be revised easily in exams , so best thing is to highlight main points add tables and use diff color codes etc that can be glanced at once instead of having to read ur notes again and again or in hurry ,
      so what would u suggest for such experience I havent found one app that works flawlessly like this , the only thing is Goodnotes and keynotes that I use but I am lookin for android notes app

    I've read a ton of good reviews about Apple notes. For me, Obsidian stole my heart. When I found out I could install a free plugin inside obsidian that allows me to call up any video (locally, or hosted online), like the one I'm watching now, and reference freaking timestamps, I was hooked. The other thing about Obsidian that is so different is its speed. There is just nothing faster in my opinion. I read some of your comments about the longevity of their business and whether or not they'd be around for the long haul. I hope so! The only thing Obsidian Mobile lacks to some degree is a native Quick Capture feature. I currently use Fleeting Notes which is a quick capture notes app that was built to Sync with your Obsidian vault. I 100% agree with you on the Markdown comment. I had to get used to it. I'd prefer the simplicity of Apple Notes. Markdown is definitely a "power user" thing.

      @Carl_Pullein  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's always the danger with third-party apps. There's no guarantee they will be around for the long haul. That's not just an Obsidian issue; it's an industry-wide issue. It's always important to see what the motives of the founders are.

    Apple Notes is great until you accidentally delete some data from a note. Since it doesn't have note/version history, your data is just lost FOREVER.

    You know Apple Notes has an Evernote Import?

  • @lichb0rn
    @lichb0rn 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That was really bold. I strongly disagree.
    Markdown is future proof. Try to export all your notes from Apple Notes, you won't like neither the process, nor the result.
    And it doesn't contradict WYSIWYG, all those "hard to remember nasty brackets" could be place with a button click, you're doing formatting from Apple Notes toolbar anyway.
    Also Apple Notes can't extract text from the link, like Evernote does.
    Note formatting options are poor at best. Really, even that "complex" markdown has more.
    And syncing... Well, Apple couldn't in syncing before, they still can't into it, though it became better and more reliable. But still...
    But I agree that it's probably "good enough", at least for some basic needs. But it's far from the best, not even close.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Try telling that to a 75-year-old retiree or a 24-year-old mother of three young kids who just wants to capture ideas and lists. There are billions of people who are just not interested in things like Markdown.
