Hey Joe! I'm in on the gin pow-wow, as I love discussing my favorites. I'd love to talk live one day! As far as Gilbey's goes, I kind of remember as a kid it was very popular when my parents had those "adult dinner parties", when us kids had to go to bed. Along with Beefeater, Black and White Scotch, Chivas Regal, and all those old fashioned liquors. I'll definitely buy a bottle of this stuff and I'm sure I'll like it. Thanks for another great video!
I've never had it before and I've seen it so many times but just thought no there's nothing good here man was I wrong this is one of the absolute best friends I've had at 40%, that is on the bottom of the shelf and I can't wait to discuss what we can talk about I'm so happy that we're going to do this!!
This was great (4:43): "You know what? I like it!" :) It has been decades since I have tried Gilbey's gin. You mentioned nutmeg in its recipe, which sounds nice. I like Gordon's and would like to try it side by side with Gilbey's. Thanks for posting this.
i love coming up with new cocktails or mixers, other day i put some ice cubes in glass with some orange zest ,rum and top off with ginger ale, stir and wow so refreshing like a different drink altogether just from the zest making a difference but don't over do it unless you like the bitters
I love the bitters but yeah I stayed to the true words in the recipe again delicious and I love coming up with things as well so much fun I mean it's horrible when things don't work out but that's how we learn cheers'
@@GinJoe17 indeed and glad you enjoyed that one, got one more if you drink coconut water with the pulp, in a small glass pour some simple syrup and coco juice with pulp and some rum(think i tried it with vodka too) till it tastes to your liking and add a stir stick then throw it in your freezer and check up on it once it turns to slush give it a stir and enjoy ,the alc helps keep it from freezing solid but enough just to make a nice slushy with the pulp bits suspended ,came up with that one after watching this guy in new york making what is called jungle juice or nutbusters, they are like homemade drinks that he sells on the streets so i got the idea to make something myself and voila it turned out great for something simple to make ,,cheers
Their vodka is also worth checking out. I'm discriminate about cheap alcohol and it's surprisingly smooth and easy drinking with little to no hangover if taken in normal quantities. P.S.: Gin and fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice helped get me through covid
Thank you for the suggestion Imy mother loves a vodka tonic I will have to grab a bottle next time I'm gin shopping ☺️ I also got through covid with plenty of gin and grapefruit, really interesting to hear someone else proclaim that! Cheers'
you seem to be the only vid review on gilbeys so thank you for this, i am in canada and for some reason i am no longer able to find this brand at the store ,not sure if its only in my province because i think it's still being sold in bc and perhaps other provinces but i was really disappointed not to find it for the past few years as it was my only go to gin ,I tried many others and they dont shine a light compared to this one ,its strength in flavor is just right and has the classical juniper aroma and flavor along with wonderful orange citrus and other botanicals made perfect for mixing in drinks perhaps even neat although i never tried just love the stuff and wish these idiots stop messing with good things ,wondering if you know why i can no longer find it here? maybe because jimbeam took over?
Ty for your comment what a great Gin even if diago owns it now. I love the way you describe Gilbey's it really is a phenomenal Gin for the price. So I've done some digging and found a wonderful article here www.lakeshoregrounds.ca/copy-of-simpson-motors On Gilbey's Gin and Canada unfortunately I can't seem to find a reason why it's being sold up there. Cheers and here's to you enjoying Gilbey's hopefully soon!
@@GinJoe17 " I can't seem to find a reason why it's being sold up there. gilbey's is a decent gin for cocktails made with a lot of mixer like a tom collins or gin and tonic. not so great for martinis but i've never been a martini fan anyway...
I mix it with popov 50 50 (add olives and a tiny bit of olive brine) to make an awesome martini. I also do this with Gordon's. Gilbey's is cheaper for sure.
I love Gilbeys Gin outstanding for the price especially in a martini, I love my martinis extra dry I always do about a quarter of an ounce of dolin dry. 50/50 martini now right there is a true classic cocktail cheers and thank you for your comment!!
i came up with a gin based drink many years ago even got the recipe published at Brokers gin website, even meet one of the founding brothers who visited my local booze store one day and got me some freebies including a bottle ,everyone who tried it loved it and one guy said he has a new found respect for gin after trying it lol let me know if youd like the recipe its quite simple
@@GinJoe17 yeah you can try it with any gin you like preferably gilbeys or brokers would be the next best choice,, take store bought medley of berries (ie blueberry, rasberry, strawberry, bleckberry) and fill a rock glass 1/4 of the way with the frozen berries then squeeze a wedge of lime juice over them and add 1.5ounce of gin (or to preference) and slowly muddle with a spoon , don't break up the berries but just enough to start releasing some color ,add ice and a slice of lime and top it off with your favorite lemon/lime soda(ie 7up etc) , give it a stir and enjoy, it looks quite festive and tastes awesome, let me know what you think of that once you tried it, i call it "the botanical" but the guy at brokers wanted me to call it "the botanical twist"
As a bit of a gin snob, it works Just brought a 1 .75 12 bucks. It sits well in the front of Plymouth, Hendricks, Bombay and tanquary I'm having my third Gilby g and t right now. One of the better bottom shelf gins. On the rocks, it's got a nice smooth finish. Good review.

Yw personally I think gilbey's blows away Gordon's ✌️
I have never tried Gin before today. I picked a bottle of this up at the store and it is VERY GOOD! I will DEFINATELY be buying it again!!!!!!!

Gilbey's is actually really nice and pretty damn cheap too. Usually i avoid bottom shelf stuff but this one was a pleasant surprise.

Dude, thier vodka is basically thier gin. Both are smooth but the gin is dangerously smoother. Creeps up on u
Shits getting pulled off the shelfs because of how cheap and delicious it is.

Looks like something that is worth trying, although near here in Pennsylvania, GIlbey's only sold in the large handle size for less than $20.
State run for ya.
It's worth trying the handled jug under $20!
