Just EPIC delivery from Gåte :) The song is an old folklore myth about a jealous stepmother who transforms a beautiful maiden into a wolf, and sends her into the forest alone. The only way the spell can be broken is if she drinks her brother's blood. - Very dark and mysterious, and given a truly captivating performance where the singer gives it all, and balances on the edge of fury - just unforgettable and sooo strong :)

I love your reaction to this song! I've been team Gåte ever since I first heard this, its such a well balanced blend of music styles, with incredibly talented vocals and instruments. I love that so many people from different countries are loving this song as it is a great modernization of traditional cultural music from our country, and it also fills me with hope that Eurovision will see more and more unique entries in native tongues, instead of the competition being 5% unique and original entries while the remaining 95% are radio friendly pop songs.
I keep seeing people comment across different reactions to this song that the chorus is 'horrible' or 'screechy' or 'makes my ears bleed' because of the high pitch. The vocalist is incredible for managing such a clear sound even at the high pitch, and if people were actually interested in understanding the songs they listen to they would with some very simple research learn that the chorus is a very old traditional way of calling for your livestock up in the mountains, it is powerful and high pitched to reach across farther distances. It's an old a cappella singing technique shared between both Norway and Sweden with regional variations, and it's called kulning. It's ok to not like/vibe with this style of singing but calling it horrible/ear bleeding is imo very disrespectful to the artists.
Thank you for this lengthy comment. I understand why people feel that way about the chorus. My friend told me the same thing "you love those screamy songs" ... and I truly do. The chorus is absolutely brilliant 👏 just my opinion ofc and people don't liking it is totally valid. It's all about personal preferences and that style for me works because im the past few years I opened up to many ''non-pop'' genres so unique songs get into my ear easier and faster than before.

The lyrics are inspired by a poem from the viking age, about a person that's cursed to be a wolf, but they can become human again if they drink their brothers' blood. They kill their pregnant stepmother, and therby drink their brothers' blood, and become human again.
The intro and refrain is a "kulokk" from the 1800s, which was used to call catlle in for feeding time at the farms in upper Telemark (a county in Norway).

Gåte = Riddle, Ulveham = Wolf skinwalker. The song is about a girl who was cursed by her stepmother to live in the forest as a wolf. One day she sees her stepmother in the woods and eats her, and she was pregnant, so as she drinks her brother’s blood, the curse is lifted.

it's also hilarious that Silia Kapsis wasn't even born the last time Norway sent a song in Norwegian. This song has grown on me a lot and I'm so glad Norway is taking a risk and sending a non English folk rock song and it will very likely pay off. There's no way this is not gonna be in the top 10.

I was listening to my "All sorts" mammoth playlist this winter, and listenend to Svarteboka. In my daydream I thought "how cool if Gåte had participated in MGP". And here we are.
All in all I am happy they did it. Not so happy about the last place, but I honestly don't care. They were the best. The biggest problem now is if other quality artists in Norway will be scared about what happened to Gåte and reject any offer to participate.
We may end up with the second or third best. Like Keiino trying too hard to get back (stalking MGP).

Thank you, I know it's not about the cabagge but the result Norway got was undeservingly low. I am so sad for them... I voted for Norway but I guess it wasn't recognized. I am scared Norway will now again turn to pop songs from the radio.

Yeah, the results were shit! It seems rather a lot of people have (re)discovered Gåte, though, and they have a very exiting tour ahead of them, both domestic and abroad.
I would have loved Gothminister to go, but this is just as great in my opinion. A great mix of Nightwish, Within Temptation and Eluveitie ❤ totally up my ally. Since I don't expect much of our own NF (🇩🇪) this will probably be the one I am rooting for if Sweden don't send Smash into Pieces 😅
I haven’t heard more than a little bit of SIP. But what I heard last year was very cliche. The lyrics were super cliche. Like every line could be a standard song tittle. I like the genre, but I may have to pass on them.

Keiino was also good but I am happy Gate wom for several reasons. First, I like it more. Second, Keiino already performed at Eurovision. And third, I happy Norway changed the style after years of sending pop entries
I have to disagree with the Swedish twin comment! I think we from Norway send something different almost every year!
The past years we have sent mostly generic electronic pop music, not saying it was only bad, but it has become more samey. Like sweden does every year and has done for decades. Sweden Mello is a pop machine that is incapabable of sending anything else than generic - but good - electronic pop music. Last time Norway had something original imo was Keiino.

I see your point about wolves and angel man 😂😂 however, I mostly referred to the choices Norway and Sweden do regarding the NF winners. In your NFs you always have songs that are non-English, ethnic or out of the box but you rarely pick them (wolves are the exception, I'll give you that) so overall it gives the impression of ''playing it safe'' with a super polished pop entry from year to year, that's all. And top 10 result is implied as well

Out of 10? I give it a 3 at best. It’s screechy and gives me a slight headache. The part outside of the chorus is great, but the chorus is absolutely horrible.
