She doesn't cast spells on us. It is her fight to free herself from witchcraft, and she shows it with every fiber in her body. I love it!

Norway Gåte ,Many people are not aware of what she actually sings, which in my opinion is a cruel text from the old days. And i am from Norway ! The text copied from newspaper:
She summarizes "Ulveham", based on an old medieval ballad, as the story of an evil stepmother who casts a curse on her stepdaughter - who turns into a wolf running in the forest forever. She only loses her wolf's hide if she drinks her own brother's blood.
"There will be a kind of happy - but cruel - ending when she meets the stepmother on horseback in the forest, throws herself at her, rips out her heart and drinks the blood. Because the stepmother is pregnant with her brother - thereby the curse is lifted

When the singer sings the refrain(?), when she just sings notes instead of words, she's doing a traditional cattle call, used in olden times to call your grazing animals back to the farm. As a norwegain, it really hits your soul.

Regrettably, the band does not possess a substantial repertoire wherein Gunnhild's exceptional vocal prowess is fully showcased. She ought not to squander her time by engaging in any other style of singing than the one she pursues here. It doesn't matter how it performs in Sweden, as long as it qualifies for the final. Ulveham transcends the whole Eurovision Song Contest. They are privileged to have Gunnhild visiting - not the other way around. You Norwegians should be incredibly proud of this contribution. Btw, I really, really hope she keeps the cracks. They fit well and charm.

@@TH-cam_Stole_My_Handle_Too The way she sings with cracs as you say, it is a way to sing a "kulokk". The cracs are ment to be there. That was a way how to sing the cows in from the mountains or forest. Just look up "kulokk" and you will understand.

In recent years, Norway has sent very different memorable perfomances to Eurovision: Alessandra👑, Subwoolfer🍌 , TIX🪶.
But this is something incredible! I'm so excited about Norway this year, it's just blasting with its energy! It will be very difficult for other countries to surpass it. That nordic vibes! 😍 That images of nordic nature during perfomance - I love it! I really appreciate that Norway presents its culture and its language. It is very interesting and it is what I want to see at Eurovision from all countries. Norway it's my winner! 12 points from Ukraine 💙💛

I'm Dutch but deeply in love with everything Norwegian. It's my favorite foreign country and I hope to live there at one point in my life. I followed MGP closely, watching all three semifinals and the final.
That being said, I wasn't a fan if this song when I heard it the first time (studio version). Maybe being a huge KEiiNO fan had something to do with that. You should react to their song too btw, it's called Damdiggida. They came a close 2nd to Gåte.
But the live performance in the semifinal blew me away. Never have I seen such a mesmerizing performance.
For me it's clear: Norway is, and will be my winner of 2024, no matter what great songs the other countries (including Netherlands with Joost Klein) will bring to the contest. And when they do win, I will be in Norway come May 2025.

The song is a dark one. It tells the story about how "she" was a young girl with an evil stepmother, cuz her mother died.
She gets sent to the king, as a tool for the stepmother. When everyone at the king's place liked her the most, the evil stepmother cursed her.
She became a wolf, and had been sworn by her stepmother that she would walk the woods alone, never to become whole again before she had tasted her brothers blood.
The full version of the song will tell furthermore that she in the end got to her evil stepmother, who happened to be pregnant with her unborn brother. The girl (who still was cursed as a wolf) killed the setpmother, ripped up her heart and drank the blood. That way, she got to drink her brothers blood, and the curse was lifted.

Gate are so, so powerful and haunting and this performance is gold. It's my joint winner (with Croatia) - a 1000 year-old folk tale of a girl turned into a wolf by her evil stepmother, told she can only break the spell by drinking her brother's blood and she has no brother, she is cast to the forest, who breaks the curse on her by attacking the stepmother outside a church and killing her, and as she drinks her blood, the curse is broken as foretold, as the stepmother is pregnant with her brother. It's done in the old Norwegian language, and it's so primal, ancient primal sounds and yet modern with the folk-metal guitars. I love it so much, so fantastic to see Norway using their own language in Eurovision - yes we know Norway is a rich, modern country where everyone speaks good English, but we want to hear their own sound and tongue too, the ethnic touch is so vital to good Eurovision.

The chorus is a socalled KULOKK, - the maiden calling the cattle in from the the mountains. The roots of this song is a thousand years old.
