    Life is simple. A beautiful explanation and application of use of a light meter and application of the readings to the camera setting. Thanks for this Jon.

    OMG. I've had an Sekonic L758DR for years and thought I couldn't do fps metering as that was only available in the L758DR-CINE. But behold....rolled past 1/8000 and got fps. Maybe I should have RTFM :-/

    Nice video on the basics of using a light meter for video.
    My only thing is that your kicker light / hair light is brighter than your main light.

      Thanks! A light facing towards the camera will always appear brighter compared to light that is only visible by bouncing off objects. I think it was on an equal/lower power than the key light.

    Excellent tutorial! I had no idea my 308-s could meter for video. RTFM I suppose... Many thanks

    Didn’t know about the frames per second trick! Going to check and see if my L-358 has it as well. Thanks for sharing!

      Jon Sparkman I’m getting one for my movie making but I’m unsure which one to get - I’ve never ever used one so Other than your video and other stuff I’ve seen online I’m still unsure (yours was the only video that made sense to me.) Ill be using a GH5s and GH4. Any tips would be very welcome 😎😇🎬

    Then the old super eight only do like 12 frames per second 128 ft./s before slow motion right?

    Hi Jon Sparkman
    The light metering can be use for video and photo metering or use for photography only. Tks

      Hey man, I think this was a Canon 6D and a 35mm Sigma Art lens!

    So the ISO you can dial in on the meter is going to match up with the ISO on any video camera? Sounds sketchy. ISO is not standardized. What if I have a Canon and Sony camera on set? Surely their ISO values have no correlation and will render the light meter useless.

    • @rickshapiro63
      @rickshapiro63 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ISO should be in stops no matter what camera you use?

    • @JonSparkman
      @JonSparkman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iso values are standardised, however the base sensitivity of each brand varies slightly, which is annoying. Fujis iso 100 is darker than Sonys for instance.

    Do you know if the Sekonic L-358 is still useful for digital cameras that shoot under 1600 iso ?
