I wouldnt have a problem hiring someone with blue hair, but I would have problems hiring someone with that mindset "I am a millennial and you don't understand me and you should change"
That’s a good point. If she instead said something like “Blue is my favorite color. I feel it compliments my personal style and brings me joy.” That might not be a deal breaker depending on the particular corporate sector she’s interested in-this would probably be fine for many of us millennials hiring now BUT agreed, not with that attitude. 😅😂😮💨
She could even have the hair color but be willing to change it, and most employers would just tell you their preference or demands. Being willing to do whatever it takes is often the most important quality.
There is 0 chance i would hire someone with blue hair as the vast majority that do are such an entitled group and don’t want to work
Right
The hair is always indicative of the mindset. The crummy heroine addict style tattoos are another give away.
I told my daughter your peers are not interviewing you, MINE ARE!!!
ABSOLUTELY!
Amen
Yes this was said perfectly and thank God. I can’t take anyone seriously with blue hair.
Facts ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
There are plenty of Millennials out there hiring people, but none of them want people with blue hair!
As a marketing major, she should know the first thing she has to market is herself.
Right? And to know her audience!
good point... but what she is unconsciously saying is that stodgy corporate america is not her market and she does not want that job
Bummer for her huh?
That was my first thought.
Came to say exactly that. You can't market yourself properly to the market you are after, why would I hire you to market my company/product? What will be your marketing strategy? Same as the VP of marketing at Bud Light?
Does this kid think her generation is the first to ‘push boundaries’? How immature. How self-absorbed. How unemployed.
I said the same thing 😂
Was thinking the same thing, Gen X had a hell of a good time pushing every boundary we could find. LOL
@@DisneyJedi I agree that every generation has their “push,” and whether such challenges to the existing structure make society better, worse, or prove to be little more than silly trends, comes down to luck, timing, and the validity of the generational idea.
@@stoneymcneal2458 So well said I like your comment! Like it or not, they will be ruling us in a minute.
Bingo!
You say break the boundries, employers hear lawsuit, grievances and negative media attention.
1000% my friend
And that’s the truth!
GenX here. I had blue hair in college, in the 80s. I didn't have blue hair when I went on an interview with a Fortune 100 company. The problem with younger generations is that they expect the world to conform to them.
@gingeroxendine2288 I disagree with the hair being an issue, I am 53 years old and work in HR, trust me if I'm forced by the law to conform to hire LGBTQA+ candidates, and nonsense individuals with their disturbing religious beliefs, I can certainly hire a young competent lady with blue hair, tattoos, and piercing if she's qualified. We must accept people's differences.
1969 Gen X here - one either infiltrates and changes within or creates their own paradigm - ive done both - this blue haired young woman is seemingly lacking any real sense of self and worldly experience for asking an otherwise ridiculoos question.
I hade a skunk Mohawk in the 80’s. In 88 grew my hair out to military style and got a $5 hr job. Military didn’t want me.
He is CORRECT...
I WOULD NOT HIRED HER
The problem is we're getting taught by Satanists that the world should conform to our inverted sense of reality.
But.
It's us that need to conform to the Will of God Almighty and become humble enough to follow Jesus Christ.
If she recently graduated, she is not a Millennial. She sounds like Gen Z.
That's a clip from an old episode.
@@SammySam316Steven didnt have this talk show 10 years ago lol. Millennials graduated college like in 2013 at The lastest lol
People can go to school at any age. I’m a physical therapist assistant and decided to continue my education and graduate this week. I’m 30.
@@alyssahopkins1799true. But she sounds immature . No 30 year old is speaking about their parents the way she is
@@alyssahopkins1799 I guess it’s never too late? 🤷🏽♀️
How entitled can one be? Great answer, Mr. Harvey.
I don't want to work with anyone who comes in saying the rules shouldn't apply to them.
Do as thou wilt
-Satan
And no company will hire someone with that attitude.
That's why I say College don't mean anything cause she sounds stupid
If the rules wsay you shall look the same as everyone else, that doesn't sound right. That's why we have rules against racism.
@@josesolismusicthe rules are if you are working a job and there is a dress code FOLLOW it. Period. No one is special.
@@dyingstars5685 a DRESS code does not include hair. And more and more every day, things like tatooes are being ignored. It's not about being special, it's about companies not owning your body.
“You’re gonna have to spend a lot of time doing what you HAVE to do, in order to one day be able to do what you WANT to do.” Such wisdom 🙌🏻
That stuck with me too ❤
She wasn't joking with the question, the video title is slightly misleading. The answer is what they all need to keep hearing until they understand it. You do what you have to do to get to where you want to be. Don't expect the world to bend over backwards for you.
I'm 58 with a family - still don't get to do what I want to do. I think I have forgotten what I want to do
2:20 The first young lady needs to apply for marketing jobs at the hair coloring companies that she buys from.
💯! That’s what I did, exhaust all efforts for companies that would have space for someone with blue hair. Still no job? Then it’s time to tone it down.
12 different color of hair in 2years??
She doesn’t know what she wants?
Corporate America confirming to YOU?!?
Knock it off!!!!😂
The dye is soaking in her brain
I’m confused on why she’s associating being a millennial with tattoos and piercings. That’s 💯 her personal style & not a millennial thing. We don’t claim her🤣
Because she is a millennial!! lol
Lol you are funny
really we kinda normalized that just saying
Tattoos and piercings have been around long before them lol I’m 39 tattoos and pierced. I don’t like corporate work and I did construction. One time my boss asked me to take my piercings out for the customer. I said no and good luck finding someone who can do the job as good as me lol. Needless to say I wasn’t fired and kept my piercings in. Construction ain’t easy he wasn’t gonna find another guy 🤣
It depends because I’m on the border if younger millennial and beginning of gen z yes a lot of us are into that
The last two generations have no clue that sacrifices are needed to become successful.
quit generalizing every single Millennial as lazy! Me and my friends not only graduated from college but have real jobs and side businesses. Our generation is the most misunderstood and criticized but no generation is perfect.
@@god563616 There is a reason the term "generalization" exists. If generalizing is the rule, then the exception isn't the rule. The generation before you was taught that old idiom "sticks and stones..." Words can't hurt you, but here we are. What did you see/read in the mirror that triggered you? It is not that serious! Her hair is just blue. She’s a college graduate and clearly intelligent….your generation is overly sensitive and dramatic like your statement. That should be more embarrassing
@@christinatoliver statements, questions, the way one speaks, the way one holds oneself, the way one articulates oneself, all these things reflect the inner thoughts of a person. Just like your reply, which suggested to me that you're an ignorant.
Fantastic lesson from Steve Harvey y'all "do the things you have to do now, to get to the place where you can do things you want to do!"
A simple question to her question: are you good enough at what you do to even break the rules and still succeed? She talking about no one takes her serious because of her hair. Focus on producing amazing results first, then i guarantee you people will start taking you serious. Trying to break the rules should be the last thing on your mind if you have no results yet.
ESMorg Exactly this. I worked in the tech industry and if you could code the heck out of an interactive web page within minutes and then find and fix the glitch/communication issue with the newly integrated mobile app, they could care less what color your hair is. Just don’t be offensive, obscene or a distraction.
I'm a Millennial, and, I completely disagree with her. To expect a business to conform to "one of us" is a non-starter.
It’s Steve’s faces when the questions are crazy that are killing me 😂😂😂. I love Uncle Steve.
I remember when I got called for my first interview to teach after graduation, the first thing I thought is the piercing above my lip has got to go. No one is going to hire me or want me to teach their kids or take me seriously with facial piercings. I was not happy about removing my piercing but I knew in doing so I was about to get a greater reward which is to teach children and make a difference in their lives. We all have to make sacrifices for our dream job and the more professional the job the more professional the appearance has to be. It's just a fact of life.
She's not a millennial, she is generation Z.
No she's not gen z. The episode is from 10yrs ago
If your only assumption is that she said she just graduated. People go to school at different ages.
@@hang1893 Exactly my wife is in her Mid 50's she is just graduated with her 5th Masters Degree in Forensic Accounting.
Well, anyone born between 1981 and 2001 are Millenials.
So I guess she COULD be a Millenial...
I thought she was unemployable!
I hate my generations thought process…. I swear i came from the last class of “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me “. So disappointing to hear about the kids where I’m from nowadays, so entitled to everything and everything.
She’s not a millennial! Us millennial graduated college over 10 years ago lol. We doing the hiring.

I know a millennial age 39 who just finished nursing school.

At what point are people going to realise that this is not a recent episode?? 😅
This show aired between 2012 and ended in 2017. It no longer airs.
The episode is from 10yrs ago.
@@sensimania that’s not true. 1st air in 2017 ended in 2019. Most millennial was still well out of college by then
@@red515ify So you assume that this episode is from 2019 just because the last episode (apparently) aired that year?! Would it not be more logical to assume that the episode aired around the time when most millennials were typically graduating, since at 0:21 she said that she's a millenial and she's about to be graduating?!
Sounds like someone needs to go back to college to learn about assumptions, fact-finding, and logic.
Sounds more like a gen z ( age of 27 or younger) if she is speaking about what her parents think.
Millennials are ages 28-43.
27-42. Yes, the year in what you commented and the fact, makes a difference.
Those generation ranges are so weird to me, lol. I'm a GenXer, and my youngest brother is a millenial (just turned 40) but so is my oldest son (just turned 27). 😅
I thought millennials were those born around the millennium 2000
Everyone older than her in the background, look at their faces. Some of these young kids live in a dream world
You might as well conform to what employers want or conform yourself to being unemployed.
She is definitely Gen Z and not a millennial. A true millennial is 28 to 43 years old now.
You ain’t finna be working 😂😂😂
She should know coming from a Marketing background that she has to market herself to the people who would be Hiring Her.
I am in my mid 40s now. In the late '90s, we dyed our hair and made styles to say that we will not conform to the societal norms. Now however, with the over abundance of narcissism as a commonality. Those who dye their hair now demand that's society (and all those in it) conforms to them and demand that this becomes the norm.
I never dyed my hair and not many of my fellow 90s hsers did anything major either.
Sure for parties and parades and other celebrations we did, but not everyday “permanent “ dyed my hair. My hair is frizzy enough as it is! Adding other hair care or hair destructors is NOT going to help with my frizz!
You've got to spend a lot of time, doing what you have to do, in order to one day, be able to do what you want to do
Yup that’s called paying your dues…
I vote for 80's millenials to be separated from 90's millenials cuz the expectations and life experiences are polar opposites 😕😒🙄🤦🏾♀️😩
We are separated from them. We are called xennials.

Steve is a successful business owner. He has many employees. He is a GREAT person for this question.
I am Gen X. We did all this sort of thing too when we were young. Millennials did not create any of this. However, we understood that they were going to be people older than us, interviewing us and having certain expectations of us. Many of us conformed enough to get work, or we created the work for ourselves. If this young lady does not have investors or capital to start her own firm, then she may want to use her natural appearance to work and wear a blue wig on the weekends to express herself.
Do you remember the times we heard about Punkers dropping aspirin in coca cola and wearing diaper pins in their faces?
That probably is a blue wig
Millennials: I want to be different like everybody else.

Funny… they think they are breaking boundaries. Hahaha!
That is unequivocally the best advice I have ever heard from a tv personality. Good on you Steve!
As a non-American I’d like to let you know that this problem doesn’t exist outside of the states, at least not to this extent
Have you been to Canada lately? Australia??
If I was hiring for a top-tier law firm and a person who graduated first in their class from Harvard but looked like that, I wouldn't hire that person. Nobody dealing with clients wants to start with this.'I know my newest hire looks weird, but she's really good'. That's the problem, case closed. Get a job in the backroom or research where nobody sees you, or start your own company.
Apply to marketing jobs at unique companies that support “freedom of hair expression”. Be prepared to have less options. Work as a barista or do something else in a creative field while your look for your dream job because it could take 3 to 20 times as long to locate this kind of company. Don’t complain or say it’s not fairvwhile you wait because you chose this path for yourself.
Yeah, she’s not a Millennial, she’s Gen-Z!!
I am a millenial who has worn almost every color on my head but a rainbow itself. It depends on the field/profession you are looking to pursue.
Blue hair may not get the marketing job because the employer might not like her smile, let alone blue hair, tats and peircings. If she doesn't have the sense to know she's representing an established business with corporate norms she doesn't deserve to even interview for the job.
As a millennial who also loves to color my hair, I can tell her right now she aint getting that job😂
Never watched this show before because I grew up watching cartoons/movies way more than talk shows. But man, those were some very wholesome answers and now I see the appeal. Kudos to wise Uncle Steve!
She isn't a millennial!!!!
Looks liek a reject from ANTIFA. Steve is totally On POINT>
I actually like her blue hair, but Steve is right on.
The fact that she is in marketing and doesn't understand that she has to market herself!
She’s not conforming to corporate m, she needs to conform to what will make her successful. She needs to think outside the box, outside her sandbox. At least she’s not angry with an attitude. She will be successful if she listens to Uncle Steve! Good luck to you young woman!
The response to the second speaker with steve's identical twins care experience, got my jaw dropped.😂😂😂

You just can't help but love Steve Harvey. He's fun to watch even when he doesn't say anything. But when he talks, you hear good advice.
Sometimes it's better to be alone, No one will hurt you.
I have been a hiring manager and a contracr project manager until I retired. I looked at a few things when hiring, do they qualify fir the job? Do they have the correct skill sets? Next is how do they look and speak? Do they communicate well, articulate, and answer questions directly? Can they expand without going overboard when asked to explain something on their resume? Will they fit into our work environment? My best experience was when we had a panel, HR Director, Legal, and me the IT Director. We 3 weighed in without any personal attacks and made notes on the resume copies. At the end if this- we may have or may have 10 who interviewed. This was after going through 300 resumes. So young people need to understand they are competing against their peers and need to put their best foot forward. When I see weird hair, a lot of tats & multiple peircings - I already question their judgement and have concerns they will do the job properly and without running to HR and creating Drama. Like it or not - thats the real world.

I guess I really got lucky because I interviewed for a supervisor position for the City, I had dark blue hair. Changed positions within the company, (had to interview for it) with a green pixie. This year makes 17yrs.
You probably didn't go in thinking you were the whipped cream on the diet iced latte mocha pumpkin swirl.
Depends on the company and the person who's hiring you. A lot of them don't like coloured hair if you will need to be in contact with people and representing them in some way. So yeah, really seems like you got lucky or the person hiring you was chill enough with it.
Working for the "City" vs. a corporate position is an entirely different situation, especially in a city where those hair-coloring styles are the norm for women of certain communities.

I’ve seen many people around me living under the same roof with their exes which is crazy!
Their logic behind was because it wasn’t convenient to rent a full apartment. So, they had to pay twice the amount or they still had a few months until the end of their contract and wanted to take the advantage of it.

If a man is really done with a relationship he will do whatever it takes to get away from that woman! Yeah she need to wait and see what’s going to happen in Feb. As a matter of fact if she really wants to know if the relationship is over just go over his house and asked the ex, bc if they truly not together you will know then!!
Should def wait longer than Feb. I met a guy who was still living with his ex and he ended up getting an apartment in my area, then we started dating. Turns out he didn't break up with her and just told her he needed space to think. He was still talking to and seeing her, and even had a bunch of her clothes hidden at his place. The guy ended up being a real nightmare for me to get rid of and it eventually ended in a restraining order, but not before I sustained severe physical injury by him (11 stitches and PT).
