    I always lock my Quest with a chain lock through the aluminum seat support and wrap it around a tree. The chain lock is up high and very noticeable.Valuables go into a tool bag that I take with me. I love your videos!

    I never lock my DF but I also avoid leaving it unattended for very long. I do have a cable I use for my road bike and recumbents and on the DF I would lace the cable through the rear wheel, which is like yours - enclosed, and around a pole or a bike rack. I'm retired so no work-place issue. At home it's either in the van inside the garage or inside the garage next to the van. I do also use the foam cover or race hood, velcro'd down to discourage people messing about. Good video, as always!

      i use a simple lock around the brake leaver. so it also works like a handbrake. and yes if people cut the brake wires it will be onlocked but who is gonna ride a velomobile without brakes. and its maybe also an option for you?

    Thanks. I wasn’t sure if I should lock from the tow hitch or the rear wheel in rotovelo. Very informative, thanks!

      If the rear wheel of the Rotovelo is as difficult to remove as the Quest's rear wheel, then go for the rear wheel.

    A padlock (for instance an Abus 65/40) will go behind the brake cables, next the the pin for the handbrake. This lock can only be removed by cutting the brake cables, good luck surviving that. This will likely be enough to deter joyriding. It is also the lightest option you can possibly find.

    Velomobiles are made for riding, not for storing ;-)
    I keep my Quest in my living room and at work I'll put it in a bicycle storage, only accessable for employees. Valuables I take with me, my shoes are in the Quest. During a coffee brake on our rides we put the Velomobiles in sight. There is more risc of children who want to climb on / in the Quest than of theft, I think.

    Those are practical suggestions for this necessary chore. I do think if you at least cover the hatch, you're discouraging casual poking around and anything to add to a thief's or a monkey's rummaging around inside. With my motorcycle, and one of my other bicycles, I would put a cover over them when parked; just because that makes it a conscious decision someone has to make to bother your parked vehicle and that cuts down on casual theft or vandalism. I am more than happy to show it off to people if I am getting on or off my recumbent, and like you, after a while, if you know the routine of where you're traveling and who likely is around, you either stop bothering, or change to more secure steps, like that cover. If it isn't made anymore, that locking cover looks like a handy accessory to try to make some "universal" hatch cover.🤔

    I have a very long lock and run the lock underneath through both my rear and left front wheel.

    The hatch cover brings to mind something I've noticed with velos, after watching your and John Williams' videos: why hasn't someone (owner or company) painted or covered the inside of a velo a light color?! I get it, carbon fiber's black, but in my memory(could be wrong) I notice most velo interiors are shiny and black. I wonder if that might be a science video you would like to do in the summer, "How much can a velo rider decrease their cockpit temperature, if they paint or use adhesive paper a white or light color?" One thing that always kept me from trying an Allweder is the idea that, that metal interior has to be so hot in the summer even if you had a canopy. Anyway, I'd be interested to know if that's an experience you've thought of in your velo in the summer?

      Extra paint = extra weight. I guess that’s the reason why people don’t paint interior.

    Great video! I use a cable and put it thru the rear wheel of my WAW and attach it to a immovable object. Unfortunately the cable that I am using is old and cracked. What lock are you using because I would like to get the same one?

      Sorry, I don’t remember the make and model of the lock. I bought it from a local supermarket, so I guess it’s just some cheap lock.

    mites jos asuu kerrostalossa? uskaltaako tämmösen jättää ulos tai pyörävarastoon vai kannattaako kantaa sisään?

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No mä en kyllä uskaltais jättää ulos ainakaan ilman mitään suojaa. Jotkut on rakennelleet puusta semmosia pieniä lukittavia kinnerin kokoisia kinneritalleja. Semmoseen varmaan uskaltais jättää, niin ei herätä turhaa huomiota. Pyörävarasto on varmasti parempi paikka säilyttää, mikäli saa kinnerin sinne helposti työnnettyä. Mutta sielä on sitten aina se riski että jonkun pyörä vahingossa kaatuu päälle tjms.

    What is to stop two blokes putting it in the back of a van with lock still attached ?

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they have a van, they probably have been planing of stealing a velomobile for some time. In that case they most likely also have a bolt cutter or angle grinder to cut the lock. So what’s the point to lock the velomobile if they are going to steal it anyway?

  • @yagzefedemirel3934

    Yuur lock doesn't provide any security because you use a pin lock (if you use a bad one, most of them are bad) instead of a disc tumbler lock

      My lock doesn’t provide any security, because its on a shelf in my garage. It doesn’t help from there 😂
