I remember one of the big car magazines of the time did a comparison test between the popular SUV's of the time. This was just before Chrysler ended production. IIRC it was the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Chevy Suburban, The Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Nissan Pathfinder, and Fords new Explorer. Despite being the oldest design in the group the Jeep still took third ahead of the Ford and the Nissan. The writer commented on while the road handling showed the platforms age, the Jeep handled the off road part of the competition at least as well as the winner (the Toyota). It's been a wish list vehicle of mine for years. Great video!

Oh, yeah! My grandparents bought one of the last model year AMC-built Grand Wagoneers as their "retirement vehicle" - it was the SUV with the highest towing capacity at the time, so they bought it and a big camper trailer to tour the country for a couple years after they retired. And they used the 4 wheel drive on it regularly, after settling down in a remote part of Arizona. I still remember going to visit them over the summer when I was in high school, and we drove it to some canyon in Northern Arizona or Southern Utah (no, not the Grand Canyon) and did a 4WD tour of the canyon - the tour guides let you choose to ride in one of their Jeep Wranglers or use your own vehicle if it was 4WD. The tour guide drove, though. He *REALLY* liked driving their Grand Wagoneer... Any time he approached anything even remotely technical, he's ask cautiously if he could proceed, for fear of scratching/denting their vehicle. My grandpa would boldly "Go for it!" And where their house was in Southern Arizona, if they wanted to get to Tucson, it was either "a few miles of back roads, followed by a dozen miles of state highway" or "a few miles directly across the desert then a couple miles of state highway." My grandpa always drove the "across the desert" route. It probably scared other drivers seeing him come racing across the desert, then just merging on the highway where there was no ramp. (Sadly, the whole area has become built up now. And while my grandfather passed away a few years ago, my grandmother still lives there. Her house still has the back porch face directly on to empty desert, but there is now a town only about a mile away that direction, and the front side, where there used to be only a few other houses then "town" a couple miles away is now completely developed all the way to the town center. Anyway, I miss their Wagoneer. After the town started developing, they sold it and bought a '98 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight.
Great story. There is also nothing wrong with the Oldsmoblie 88. I have one, thanks to my grandparents buying it new in 99. It's a great and simple comfortable car.
Oh yeah. Old school American SUV with wood grain. I absolutely love it. It's surprising too me though that the Chrysler ones are actually more valuable. A bit of irony if you ask me.
I’m still driving my first car, a 2001 XJ Limited (7 years later) and have had 2 other cars since and it is still the best. My grandmother bought it brand new and I got it from her for my 16th birthday. Still looks in like new condition and never has given me any problems. At my college of about 15000 kids I still see about 5-6 other XJ’s on campus daily. Great car and we’re a family of Jeeps. Most recently we added a Grand Cherokee Diesel, great new SUV.
I miss 20th century vehicles. When Jeeps were Jeeps, Cars were Cars, and Trucks were Trucks, and nobody had ever applied the term "crossover" to a vehicle
I realized something about Liberty's recently. It's mostly lower mile ones around because they are not worth maintaining past 200k miles. Unless they have a fastidious owner they're junk by then.
Daylight saving time is when clocks are set an hour later in the spring, so if we stopped doing daylight saving time, it would still get dark at 4:30pm this time of year.
Funny story on one of those. One of my dad's doctor friends bought one brand new around 1989, fully loaded with all the trimmings. He was really proud of it. The second time he took it to the gas station, a young attendant said "Nice Wagoneer you got there." The doctor said "Thanks." then the attendant said, "Did you buy it like that, or did you restore it yourself?"

One of reasons why its so comfy might be the 200k miles. I had a 160k Passat, lowered even and whatnot but somehow it was the most comfortable thing Ive ever driven. I loved every mile in it, It just glided over everything. The very next car after it I had was the new one, not just a facelift, whole new platform and all better supposedly. I'm on rebuild #4 now.

I'm a simple person. I see a Jurassic Park Jeep, I click hahaha
My heart. The SJ is sooo good, I love the burgundy, those 360's run forever and ever, the 4x4 is dirt simple, and MMMMMMM WOOD PANELLLIIIINNNNGGGGGGGG
Oh and another Jeep thing on a related note, I've seen someone run a Cherokee with 4.0 I6 with mountain dew for oil for half an hour or so. Really impressive
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
smells like a steak and seats thirty-five..
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!
Canyonero! (Yah!) Canyonero!

12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!

1337Pwny indeed they are!
I have another name for a product. Colon lava.
You forgot..."Be careful! There's a gentle curve ahead! ( **'Canyonero' slides off road, explodes from a gentle impact with dirt...** )
The Grand Wagoneer will always have a special place in my heart. Grandfather raised me and only had Jeeps ironically from 3 months before I was born until about 30 years later when he died. Grand Wagoneer was the very first Jeep we had.
Wagoneer is my dream also I'm in love with a Park avenue love those old school big SUV and Saden every time I watch your videos I feel that we are on the same page and you have almost the same taste as me you have to get a Cadillac yacht soon
He already had a yacht if you consider his old continental
@@yalantyr25 yup the black one
This is encouraging me to work on my 1990 (back burner) project. Almost no rust, dash and seats are mint, original radio. Swapping in 4BT Cummins like the one in my CJ7.
Hoovie those key fobs look a bit heavy. Let me hold some for ya
New favorite auto channel!
Thumbtacks holding up the headliner? That's so '80s...
I agree! The old Wagoneers are tough as nails, and well built!
Hey Tyler, if you're serious about keeping the Jurassic Park Jeep, feel free to join the Jurassic Park Motor Pool on Facebook. They are a wonderful group of people with a plethora of resources. They can help guide you to finish that YJ!
Love the mods to the truck in the profile!
Thanks @jack Adams. I sold it to a friend to get a stock 2wd S10 blazer that's now been dropped. Lol
I love the Canyonero references! The song at least is from the "Last Temptation of Krusty" Season 9 Episode 15. Great episode.
Reminds me of Thr 4x4 homer Simpson bought.
I'd love that car, and I hate SUV and owners of 4x4s that have no reason for having one. My only issue is fuel. You'd need to be the queen to be able to afford to run that in the uk. But damn it's so cool.
Stephen Butler that's why he played the Canyonero song in the beginning.
@@herbiehusker1889 I'd already written it by then, and thought that was the song. It must of been 20 years since I've seen that episode. Lol.
The one vehicle in his fleet he could come out ahead with, and he refuses to part with it - never change Hoovie, never change.
2001 XJ Limited.
214000 miles
Last of AMC. RIP
Amen brother!
Got a 99 186k 4.0 still perfect
Got a 84 with the 2.8 and 111k miles
Finally a LEGITIMATE hoopty.
Now, prepare yourself for the "Hoovie Effect.." as these skyrocket in value AGAIN.
And my Jeep Liberty (v6 5 speed 4wd) was easily the most reliable car I've owned and was tons of fun. My wife currently has a Patriot (2.4 manual 4wd) and while underpowered is a very capable vehicle for snowy climates. I just wish I didn't have to rebuild the transmission every 40k miles. I'm on rebuild #4 now.
Ian Colquhoun haven’t had issues with my trans (knock on wood). What year do you have? I have 2005 3.7L
@@Varrylickers it's my patriot with the biodegradable transmission. The Liberty was unstoppable.
same here! my 08 liberty with the auto trans has been crazy reliable in the three years ive owned it. i regularly beat mine up offroad, and it just keeps chugging along
Ian Colquhoun oh I see I totally read that wrong
A reliable jeep? Have you ever driven....a Honda....?
Irony: the flashing clock on the stove while he's shilling for the watch company sponsoring the video...
Hello sir. I'm very happy with my 2011 grand Cherokee,,,, so far, almost a hundred thousand on it.
Same here with my 2011 Jeep Liberty, has just over 100,000 miles on it and is easily one of the most reliable cars I've owned.
100k miles is something to be proud of now adays ? Cars likes Toyota’s are averaging over 200k without major problems. Jeeps will always be JUNK
Hi driving
So you are supposed to run your car into the ground instead of taking care of it?
Love love love that exact spec grand wagoneer. The wood panel style, and giant boxy tank body. Wish they made something like this still.
John Candy's car in The Great Outdoors. Can I get a thumbs up?
The first thing i thought about when i saw it. It was The Great Outdoors
"We shoulda brought Uncle Roman's car!" as he drives away with the bears on his roof and hood is one my favorite moments in the movie.
John Candy could make taking off his socks entertaining. "I'm saying you ARE stuck in Wichita."
@@trvr82 He could make typing on the computer or reading a phone book entertaining.
Still waiting for him to buy the uncle buck car and take his daughter to school.
A buddy had one in HS. His running joke was the only thing that got worse gas mileage than his AWD Jeep Grand Wagoneer...was the track platform they hauled the shuttle out to the launch pad with in FL. (1987)
Biggest mistake was killing the CJ 8’s..
Hoovie take some SOS pads to the white stripe around the wagoner's tires and it will shine bright again
Nasty cheap looking watches. And - Oh My God, 1 minute and 20 seconds on them - snooze alert. P.S. I too love the Wagoneer, it looks majestic.
Hoovie! Imao you are the most funnest (and funniest) youtubers today! I can't wait for your every next video and I simply love'em and enjoy em because you are natural and fun to watch and you remind me of ME! Before..in the past(in my head I am still the same today and I would buy every car that I like and it's cheap)..except I only had 4-5 cars at once for about a year or so mostly work related but still.. Thanks for amusing all of us on your behalf(damage) and keep up the good work, buying hoopties! :)
Only 46 views, never been this early for a Hoovies Video.
Well it's still 46 views 😂
I have been waiting for your next (this) video for a week! I was worried that something happend to you. I hope that one day you will be able to live off youtube and make more videos, maybe get someone to help you to film and edit. Keep up the great work! Cheers from Austria.
Are you still "flipping burgers"?
The visibility out of it is just amazing...wish we could get that in new cars. Also, something tells me those tires probably need replacing. :P
Last time I was this early, Dougie was marveled by a Bentley...as usual..
My grandparents in Texas had one in 1984: great car I miss it. They replaced it with the Suburban, which was bigger, but without the class!
You sound like you'd wear a fancy watch
I taint mistaken He does generally wear expensive watches. Maybe not in videos sponsored by MVamt
*Please do a video on how you fix that sagging headliner! I need to know what the Car Wizzard thinks works and doesnt work for sagging headliners.*
I love Jurassic park jeeps lol
i hope you keep it, its all my great grandfather would buy man. too many memories in that old thing ha x
I wasn’t finished watching Daddy Doug’s video 😡
I absolutely LOVE my 07 liberty! It’s preformed every task I’ve thrown at it with flying colors!(and I haven’t exactly been easy on it) I’ve owned the thing 4 years and had 60k trouble free miles! I would easily recommend one to anybody! The best vehicle I’ve ever owned!
I hit it with a *dislike!* for the MVMT promotion. Otherwise, great video as always!
Why the fuck would you dislike a video just bc of a paid promotion? How else is he supposed to keep on making awesome videos for us especially since YT probably doesnt pay enough
I fell in love with this car the minute I saw the first model at the dealer. Still a great looking vehicle.
We all know hoovey is nouveau-riche, no amount of wood paneling will change that.
I've owned a Grand Wagoneer and a Commander. They are both great, I really do love my Commander and it's the best 4x4 I've ever owned in the snow.
You should also look into a Rough Country lift, they improve the ride quality over the clapped out springs and gets the Jeep to the ride height they should have come from the factory.
Video starts at 1:25
I like those models as well. Thanks for bring them back to light. I just don't hear about them much any more.
quartz watches are for peasants.
@Justin Chism thanks...should i fix it? should i leave the error?
i thnk i 'll fix it...
Mechanical watches are better in almost every way and are not even much more expensive.
@@alitheretrokid thats not true at all
@@jacobfleming565 you can get a Seiko 5 auto for $100 or less.
@@udstuen non water resistant. There's no automatic as versatile and cheap as a Casio edifice. I keep it on for anything... Sports, swimming, crosstrekking, skying...
I owned a1988 Grand Wagoneer! Loved it!!
who wears watches anymore?
no one Rolex owners basically
Oreo Jumper Guinea Pigs love my Day-Date actually haha funny you said that!
The fact they didnt make the rear window roll down on the new 2021 Wagoneer is a huge disappointment. They look good but jus too big and expensive.
Buy a communist car, like a Trabant or a Lada 😂
Trabant isn't even a Russian car
@@mad_cat431 alright alright, a *communist* car :P
@@mad_cat431 the Russians were kind of pulling the strings with East Germany so it almost qualified as a Russian car.
At least the Trabant wasn't a reworked Fiat, you have to give it that.
Probably not legal for street use in the US due to government regulations.
@@smirkingdevil any Trabant or Lada over 25 years old (which includes any model Trabant) can be imported into the states as they're exempt from DOT/EPA regulations. The only exception is California. Getting a grey market car CARB certified for registration in California is really expensive. You can always register in Montana though....
I guess your old Jeeps are like our old Land Cruisers and Land Rovers here is Australia. FJ40’s etc can go for crazy money, but I’d still absolutely love to own one, one day.
Liked the video, Much respect for you using The Seatbelt!!
It's good they're bringing back the Grand Wagoneer. I was going to suggest someone start a Movement for the Grand Wagoneer. Big or small, a movement nonetheless.
