    If you are attempting to purchase the ND1000 filter for your GoPro, please note that I reached out to Freewell and per Freewell new stock is on the way to retailers.

    Thank you so much for this video. Easy to follow.
    I didn’t know you could take shot like the moving water like this on the go pro. I’m so keen to go out and give this a shot.

      You’re welcome. Yes, it’s pretty neat what the GoPro can do with that $20 ND1000 filter. I was impressed at the quality of photo that could be created with this tiny little action camera.

    Thanks for the inspiring video. I really need to take my Freewell ND1000 out more.
    The camera is still waterproof without the cover glass. You just want to be careful if you get dirty water on the lens (wash it with clean water before wiping it). Also, you wouldn't want the gap between the Freewell ND filter and the lens filling up with water if it does leak.
    Note that voice control is another way to avoid shake.
    - Full disclosure: I work for GoPro

      I appreciate your feedback and the clarity you have added here. I need to do more with the voice control aspect. I’m the type of person who still likes something to touch or tap to start or stop a function but the voice control has indeed come a long way on the GoPro.

    Another great video. I love how you make it so simple and clear on what to do, no fluff or wasted space at all. I can’t seem to figure out how to do that when I make videos, I talk too much 😛

    Very informative video. Thanks. I have an ND32PL filter. Can I get good similar results if I set shutter speed to say 2 secs?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. When I tested ND32 I found this to not be enough stops of light being filtered out. If I used a shutter speed of two seconds the resulting photo was too overexposed. I found ND1000 was needed to get these results.

    Excellent video and fabulous images. Can one take long exposure photos with ND 64?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I tested with an ND64 and it did not give me enough light filtering to get a long enough exposure in most settings with the exception of if I was in a lower light/really shady setting. Then it was possible to use ND64. ND1000 is definitely more flexible but ND64 can be used for a shorter long exposure or in a shadier setting.

    • @VOZM
      @VOZM ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are the ND filters all the same? I mean the quality. I have purchased ND filters from Yallsame. Unfortunately this set does not contain ND 1/1000.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot speak to that brand but I have used both Polar Pro and Freewell. I like both and both seem to be on par with quality but I find the Freewell ones to cost a bit less. The ND1000 filter from Freewell is about $20.

    Based on your videos, I bought a GoPro 11 for travel, hiking and boating. With the tools you describe (ND filters, gimbals, etc), do you believe this is a good video camera to accomplish all these things, including landscape panorama, action vids, POV, etc? Or do I need to be looking at additional equipment? I need to keep light-weight, high-quality. Thanks

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GoPro is a great camera for all of those use cases along with those accessories. I have found that for different use cases it takes some experimenting and trial and error to get the looks I really want to my footage but I have learned a lot with the experimentation process.

  • @chrismacdonald.6295

    Wonderful video. I want to get this filter, but, being a beginner, the GoPro is known for having poor photo quality. I have the Hero 11. Can i capture stunning photos with this camera?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the photos in this video are ones I captured on the GoPro and used the exact process I outline in this video. The Hero 11 has at least good of photo capabilities. Of course, the GoPro is a less than $500 camera and its speciality is not necessarily photographs but it can capture some decent photos with the right settings.

    Do you lock focus before putting filter on? Especially if using the nd1000.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. Focus locking is not necessary with the GoPro but if you have a static subject in the foreground you will want to make sure it is at least approximately 3 feet away from the GoPro if you want it in focus and not blurry.

    • @GreatDayForAHike

    On my gopro11, why is my ev comp non-selectable ?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure you are in the Pro mode and also make sure you have RAW selected for the photo type. One of these not being selected can cause that setting to be grayed out.

    • @joelreiner7840
      @joelreiner7840 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I noticed that the shutter speed has to be on auto for the EV comp to be selectable. Anything other than auto and it becomes “N/A”

  • @nobelium9755
    @nobelium9755 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I recentyl bought ND filters. Unfortunately I dont have ND1000. The highest I have is ND 32. Do you think I can still achieve same motion blur as your photo? Im aware that I may have to tweak my settings to achieve such result. Do you have any suggestions for the settings?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. You could get some blur with the ND32 but not as much due to not being able to keep the shutter open for as long (the photo will be washed out and/or white). If you’re in the shade or lower light the ND32 will get you a bit further than in the sunlight.
      You would like need to set your shutter speed between 1/30 up to 1 second. 1 second will likely still be too much and give you too much light but it’s worth trying in a shadier setting.

    • @nobelium9755
      @nobelium9755 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreatDayForAHike Thanks for the response. I figured i wont be able to get that same gorgeous blur with the filters that I currently have. Thus, I have decided to purchase ND1000 filter. I cant wait to try it out with my GoPro 10! Cheers!

      @@GreatDayForAHike I can't get anything but white even at 2sec with my nd64 turned as dark as possible. The waterfall I want to capture was in bright sun. How did Vic's turn out so well when he says he's using an nd64?

    Are you sure you used an nd64 for this? I tried to capture a very cool waterfall this morning with my nd64 at 2sec shutter but still all white, overexposed.
