    Thank you for doing this list. I have a 125 gal community tank with angels mainly and all types of tetras. I recently had to add Blood Parrots because I had them with mbunas and peacocks and they were getting bullied. Thankfully they have acted just perfect in my community tank, eating and swimming, minding their own business. I don’t say they will work in all community tanks but they do just perfect in mine. To finish my tank I wanted to get some blue acaras but I wasn’t sure if they were too agressive. Thanks for the video 🙂

    I have to say my favorite fish at the moment - the Thomasi Cichlid (Anomalochromis thomasi). The thomasi is an amazing cichlid from West Africa with great personality and stunning colors. They stay relatively small and are definitely one of the most peaceful cichlids i've ever kept. They also go great in a planted aquarium and work well in a community. I've also found that they are one of the few cichlids that prefer to be in a group and they almost school together in a larger tank. I highly recommend them to any fish keeper, even beginners as they are very hardy aswell! :)

    A Jack Dempsey! Most think of them as very aggressive but in the right setup they can be very relaxed and passive. I love watching my Dempsey interact with my plecos too, he’s always interested in them. That’s my choice!

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Definitely a debatable one! We have two Dempsey’s currently. “Jack” is older and very docile, while his son “Jack Jr” is very aggressive. Awesome fish to keep either way!

      their temperament varies. mine lives with an acara, catfish and a gold gourami just fine and previously lived with some rainbowfish. hated a jewel cichlid though. thing with a lot of fish is that their attitude varies heavily on the tank size, setup, numbers and personality

    I agree with your choices 100%. I would also add the Cupid cichlid. It is a good choice for a community cichlid aquarium. You mentioned the electric blue acara and I agree but the regular Blue Acara is also a nice choice. My profile pic is of one I have kept.

    Do you think red fin coryli (spell?) and green terror would fit in with Severum, Oscar, king parrots, silver dollar,
    I have 125 gallon tank and I’m fairly new to this. Love these two fish. Had a coryli but ich took him down few months ago. Rest of community survived and are thriving now.
    Great video 🙏

    I have a 75 gal with a pair of Kribs, A pair of Electric blue Acara, fully grown gold severum (hes a giant), half sized Green Severum and 2 leopard Bushfish, they all live pretty happily. I personally think the Bushfish are extremely underrated becoming one of my favorites. i wouldn't put baby fish in the tank with them but that's with most Cichlids. they're awesome to watch during feeding time as they dart around for the food. other then that they are like standing statues most of the time you'll see them in odd areas in weird poses, it's quite fun to try to find them and see how they are posing today!

    You guys need to look into the tanganyikan cichlids more. There are a lot of really cool smaller cichlids from that lake like different julidochromis species or caudopunctatus, that stay small and kind of just keep to themselves and the little territory that they stake out in the aquarium.

    Hello Cichlids bros. I am starting a new tank. I am working with a 75 gallon tank. I have had oscars before. So, I thought to have an oscar, red severum, chocolate severum and a pleco. I think that could work but I am not sure. Now that I just watched your video of the 10 cichlids you could put in a tank. I want to ask could If I didn't go the direction of the oscars. If I decided to use some of your selection, excluding the disc. Could the rest you offered all fit in my 75 gallon. Maybe 7 -9 different cichlids based on size they will get and bio load. Thanks for any help you can offer. Kenny G.

    See as much as I like this, my idea of a "community" are things like cichlid or higher end semi-agressive community tanks. As much as I live tetras and trust me I do but I just don't do mixed community tanks of non agressive fish anymore. My closest tank to that is a 150 planted tank with around 130 Cardinals, 30ish oto cats, a blue phantom pleco, 10 khuili loaches and that's it. Not much of a community as there's really no interaction. Just my Cardinals, a bunch of cleaners and one centerpiece fish in my phantom pleco

      Nope. I have a female Steindachneri in this tank and can assure you that the group of seven are Geo Tapajos

      Geophagus Tapajos isn't a fish, the redheaded tapajos is the common name of the Steindachneri, I was able to find one site that was selling Geophagus Parnaibae as the red headed tapajos. But 9/10 times the Tapajos name is refering to the Steindachneri.

      If I'm wrong feel free to correct me but what I'm finding is supporting this.

      @@noahthorin2476 Yeah there is a lot of incorrect information out there, especially with Geophagus classification. Tapajos, Steindachneri and Parnaibae are three separate species. Tapajos have the common name of Red Head Tapajos, while the Steindachneri has a common name of Red Hump Eartheater. The Steindachneri males get a nice sized nuchal hump and the species stays more tan/yellow than the Tapajos (also a bit more aggressive). The Parnaibae is separate from both, but get far less red coloration and is less common in the hobby

      I know that fish classification is a mess but I for whatever reason have not been able to find any formal literature for an actual tapajos species, but thanks.
