Operation Facelift 1995 Mustang GT Paint Prep SN95 Part 4 Mustang Connection. The car gets a new door and some TLC on the body in prep for paint. Doing this one on a tight budget.
Doing this one for a flip? This is more like what most of us would do for a car that would be a daily driver and that's what it's all about in the end, right? The rest is icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing Rich.
Ya just doing this one for the love of the hobby, like a giant model. Putting the sheen back in the 20 year old steed. Thanks for watching George
Looking good Rich! Can't wait to see her done.
Thanks Gray, looking forward to a light cosmetic refresh on this one.
I hate doing bodywork but it is what shows the most, looking good. Can wait to see the paint
I am curious to see how the black looks on the recent bodywork, thanks for watching, commenting and sharing, let me want if you want an MC sticker. Send me your address and I will mail you one.
Great job Rich .Thumbs up for M C 1.
Mordoor 53 Thanks Kevin, much appreciated!
Looking good cant wait to see the Pony finished!
Thanks man, much appreciated and me too.
Looking good! Going to be a great daily driver
Thanks Billy, yep just an easy peasy regular cruiser.
Its looking good . Will look real sharp painted
Thanks Joe, looking to see new life back in this 20 year old Mustang.
Those rear lights are a snap to replace. Most folks stick 96-04 lights to update the look but I like the originals. I know it's a budget build but consider updating all the rubber suspension bushings. My '95 had some issues with the front right control arm bushings ( hit too many pot holes, possibly?). It took some time but one of the first mods I did was to replace all the stock rubber stuff with polyurethane. The car was so much tighter afterwards and drove like a new car.
Rudderify I am going through the cosmetics first and I already bought a couple of nos taillights, sticking withe the original horizontal lights. I can tell it's gonna need some maintenance stuff, suspension for sure thanks for the tip, I like poly just not the squeaking :\
It's coming a long nicely. I got the stickers, thanks man!
Mike Emerson You are welcome Mike!
Looking forward to seeing it in paint! I'm still looking around for a Sn95, but I'm not too sure on what to look for as far as what goes bad on these things. I know it seems the odometer and window regulators are a common issue. I'm most interested in a 96-98 cobra
56ratbug Me too, thanks for checking it out. I specifically got the 95 because it was the last of the 5.0 motors. I am not sure what the most common problems are with the early Cobra DOCH drive trains. I am sure the Mustang forums are loaded with all the tips and issues. Should be a fun car
It actually looks good in primer!!!
Should I put it back in primer ? LOL
Ha! I know right? Did you end up selling this one Rich...($5G's and not a penny less!)
I still have it, more vids on the way.
all in the prep
So true.....thanks for watching Dean
Looks great! I like the detail of the satin finish in the trim. Any pointers for that? I also thought about mentioning before that it would look good with the later '98 tail lenses. I wonder if that's what is coming...
Keeping this one box stock for now, I just used Krlyon Semi Flat PN# 53565 I am gonna run NOS 94-5 tailights and attempt to clean the fronts.
Hey Rich,
What did your body guy use to sand it down? I was looking to do this to my 2000 V6. Also what primer diD you use for the body and what paint did you use for the satin and the wipers?
started with 400 and went to 600, can't remember on the primer but I did pay the extra $100 bucks at Maaco for their "sealer" coat of primer. The satin was just Krylon Semi-flat out of a rattle can. They stopped selling it for some reason in CA though...
just wondering if you could upload a video with how your hoses are connected to your charcoal canister. I'm trying to figure out what goes where but nobody seems to have a video of exactly what hose goes where.
I got an interesting factoid about the 302 . The last true 5.0 302 was released in 1978 , since then its actually a 4.9 . Has to do with the head design for emissions. They were talking about releasing a true 302 when they first revamped the mustang in 2006 (?) . Remember this being mentioned a couple times over the years in hotrod magazine.
peter sisco You are correct 4.942 is the CC on it.... I do know in 80 and 81 they stop making or rather de-stroked the 302 Windsor and it became a 255 or 4.6 and that was one hell of a dog motor.
Did you do the body work yourself? What's the best approach to stay in a tight budget for dings and dents? Your car looks great with the budget maaco paint job. Looking to do this to a car that's hardly worth a mid grade maaco job.
Obviously the more you do yourself the more cost effective the project will be. Yes I had a buddy help me on the weekends at a body shop and the house before having Maaco spray it. Good luck with your project.
I just bought a 1995 mustang 3.8 v6 for my highschool son. It was 450 bucks. I cant get it started yet, keeps idling high and shutting off. A little nervous about what I gt myself into.
+Justin Gauger Well for $450 bucks that is your maximum exposure at this point. I would check the various Mustang forums as its probably a common problem. It could be so many different things and may be a simple fix. I would start The TPS( throttle position sensor) Good luck with the project.
Yer a plowin in th short rows now Rich! It won't be long now!
Yep another one in the books!
I know this is an older video, But do you recall what gritt you sanded it down to before you dropped it off for paint??
I don't recall exactly but it was probably 400
I thought you were going to paint it with some rustoleum and a roller in the street.
Now Matthew, don't you think that wasn't something I considered, hahaha, that is a good one.
Looking good
Thanks Nick!
Looks good. What color are you going with?
My 1966 mustang restoration Thank you, just back to factory black.
Hi Rich I got a ? on my 02 GT What year's 4.6 sohc motor's will work in it?
Scott, the 99-04 4.6 are the same in the GT Mustangs. Beyond that, not really sure, is the motor bad in the '02?
MustangConnection1 Yea it has a healthy rattle to it. I think it came out of a wrecked taxi cab and we all know how many miles they get on them. Thanks for the info Rich
Has it been wreck I see they done a lot of work on the quarters.
? did you see the first walk around? This was an original paint car, no wrecks clean car fax. th-cam.com/video/7j_0tryhMQI/w-d-xo.html
Why did need bondo and make sure they block it out or it will have waves in it can't just use the da or palm sander. That block will show ya the highs and lows on the body. I do this stuff about everyday
It was a skim coat, the car came pretty good, sold now. Thanks for your concern.
MustangConnection1 ok
Are you headed to Maaco now or going to spray it in your garage? Nice job with the license plate concealment, any professional bank robber would appreciate this car. lol
ozzstar Good guess, Maaco it is! Stay tuned to see how the quality of the paint turns out.
what did you use to paint the sideview mirrors?
I just used Krylon Satin Black out of a rattle can.
+MustangConnection1 alright thank you. mine are faded a bit and i wanted to bring them back to life.
How much did it cost to get prepped?
+The Stang It was a while ago but I recall about $500 but I also did a lot of the work myself before it went to paint.
+MustangConnection1 what kind of work did you do? I want to have my stang repainted too but am on tight budget. Also what package did you go with at maaco? Thanks for the reply and help!!
If you look at the videos you can see I took the bumpers, lights etc off. Also I would go and sand and I hung the door. The paint was
on sale at the time about $500
+MustangConnection1 thank you!!
Did it just get scuffed? You black or flat black?
What I meant was did you just scuff it or bare metal it Rich.
strokedfirebirdable Just knocked down the surface and spot primed the areas that got bodywork, gonna seal the whole thing and block it before paint.
Good first car for a high school/college student but not worth more than $4K to sell.
Well put Danny.. that's about all it really is a driver, good first car. Sharing the process and keeping one on the road on this one, not meant to get rich....
