Unclear. Some believe it coats the D+ RBCs and results in rapid clearing of the D+ RBCs (there's almost certainly SOME of that). Others believe that there is also suppression of the activity of the immune system, analogous to how IVIG suppresses things (some would say "magically"). In short, we aren't totally sure, but some combination of the above is likely. -Joe
