I’d say this is a decent video, as a person who has owned multiple fixed and built multiple and sold multiple jeeps: Please do a lot more research on these jeeps before you buy them, they are used like toys and you can tell the difference in the price you’re buying it for, if you’re looking for reliability a stock one with low owners and miles will do you right

I took mine off roading and now my car in drive won’t go past 3000rpm in park it revs to red line not sure what the problem is if anyone know please tell me
The Crown Vic is a pretty awesome car, however, the drivetrain is very similar to the mustang. Perhaps I’ll make one focusing on the crown Vic in the future.
Very funny and informative video, someones offered to swap their 98 cherokee for me 02 fairmont ghia, domt know if i will but a test drive each way would be interesting lol
Mine did that, turned out to be a ground. There is a stud on the engine block where several grounds attach, I cleaned that and the speedo started working again.
How many miles would you say is too much before buying a Xj for more than $5000? I see so many for sale with like 150,000 miles for $5000 all the time.. What do you think is a good price-to-mile ratio? It’s going to be my first car and I need help 👍
Keep Cherokee XJs can easily run from $2000-$8000 depending on their condition. Imo, 150k is not a lot of miles, however, similar to what the person above said, it depends who has been driving it. You can easily access what kind of driver he or she is when you meet them. Furthermore, you need to make sure if they kept some sort of documentation of maintenance. Lack of maintenance will kill these cars, and of course abusing them on trails day in and day out. Frame rust is an issue. However, light surface rust is okay. I would definitely treat the surface rust as soon as you can. If everything checks out, body is in good condition, drive train looks great, oils aren’t dirty, no death wobble (test drive it up to 70mph to check for the wobble), then 5k sounds reasonable, imo. I actually disagree with the fellow above about people who sells used cars are usually covering things up. I’ve sold many used cars and bought used cars. Haven’t had any issues. I’m not too old, however, I have faith in most of humanity to do the right thing. Once again, you can kinda tell by the owner if they are sketchy in any way. These engines can last 400k miles if they are properly cared for. Is it lifted above 4-6 inches and have larger tires without proper modifications? Well, if they didn’t upgrade the drive train, then expect less life out of it. There are a lot of things to consider when buying a used car. Sometimes it is a gamble. Point out minor issues and get them to drop down the price to $4500 or even $4000. Good luck! Cherokee’s are awesome! Loved my 99 Grand Cherokee with 220k miles!
If you are lucky enough to find one without much corrosion, you need to go full, retard in with something like fluid film, and then do annual applications after that as needed. Rust is the real enemy.
Not sure how I missed that, but that’s why I encourage people to comment other issues. The years were from late 99-01 for the XJ Cherokees. Thank you for bringing that up to my attention!
Oh yeah here's a little FYI for your steering improvements when you have a lift you want to track bar and your your bar coming off your the bar coming off your ear your pitman arm you want the bar coming off a pitman arm I need track bar to be at the same angle as parallel as possible but you can also take a bushing good shock bushing and cut it in half and put it between the bar that you put it in where the bar coming off the slip at the where the bar coming off the pitman arm the bar coming off a pitman arm to the bar going from from wheel-to-wheel where the pit with a bar coming off the pitman arm connects to the bar with that ball joint you cut a good you cut a good bushing in half not vertically the slip you put it in that that tie rod end that connects to the bar going to your wheels off the bar coming in your pitman armand you'll be pleasantly surprised if you go on Amazon and search the solution for like Jeeps that's what comes up is a little bushing that you can put in there but instead of paying $25 for it most Jeep owners have extra decent bushings if not new bushings laying around that you can shave off and half and a horizontally not vertically and you'll be surprised at the plushness of your steering you're welcome

And I just want to say before my brother died he made sure I was proficient and working on vehicles and when you own a Jeep XJ if you want to be happy then you need to be able to spin a ranch and chain some parts and fix things so here's to all the XJ drivers who can fix things and get out of predicaments and don't have to rely on mechanics can I get a can I get a can I get a Yahoo Yahoo I just teamwork makes the DreamWork Jeep drivers are the team of the future love everyone in yet no homo
And one more thing the upper control arm mount passenger side on my 99 Jeep XJ got sheared off so I welded it back on and it got your day off so I will hit it back on and I got sheared off and welded back on got sheared off you see the pattern here okay so I did my Bros old school fixed where you take about 4 ft of chain good heavy tow chain and you wrap it round wrap it round wrap it round lock it down take a couple of nuts and bolts and tighten it up tighten it up tighten it up and guess what is stronger than stock way stronger than stalk you're welcome

@@AutoMotivate It could've been a gear problem, it had happened in June 2012 and I had it fixed in April 2013 a year before I sold it.
I grassed my slip yoke and it keeps doing the clunk
Bouta replace my floor pans and send it another 100,000 miles it’s at 400,000 rn but got it for $800 think it’s still valid?
You missed the most costly, the 0331 head cracking
I’d say this is a decent video, as a person who has owned multiple fixed and built multiple and sold multiple jeeps:
Please do a lot more research on these jeeps before you buy them, they are used like toys and you can tell the difference in the price you’re buying it for, if you’re looking for reliability a stock one with low owners and miles will do you right
Those are becoming more and more rare, sadly.
By low miles what range are you talking about? I’m looking at a stick one, two owners with 215k miles
Can you please make this video about the GMC SAFARI/ASTRO van. Thanks.
That’s a fantastic idea 🙏
@@AutoMotivate 😀
Thank you very much for letting me know all this I got a 1998 Jeep Cherokee appreciate it thank you🙂👍👍👍
Soo..I’m guessing probably don’t get this as a first car? I’ve always loved the look and generally the basic usage I’d get out of this but now idk. I’m not the most mechanically inclined but I can’t kinda figure things out. If I get one what would be the best yeat
I think 1999 was the “best” year. But overall they are all great and reliable, just really depends how it has been taken care of previously.
Any car you get is going to have problems. Luckily these problems are cheap to fix an easy. I know you said you were not mechanically inclined but it’s not hard to grab a set of tools and get to working on your own car
My ignition switch just went out
Does a manual have less overheating issues?
Why does he keep showing an xj with an LS motor in it?
Great vid!
I took mine off roading and now my car in drive won’t go past 3000rpm in park it revs to red line not sure what the problem is if anyone know please tell me
Maybe a crown Victoria video? Great videos overall dudeee
Loved my Jeep😊
My trans blew up on me yesterday
I like how he uses a pic of ls swapped jeep and talks about engine problems. Good video
The older XJs speedometer always breaks or fails, so it indicates that ur going 0mph all the time
Lol my old 99 explorer’s rev tachometer didn’t work.
Mine did that, turned out to be a ground. There is a stud on the engine block where several grounds attach, I cleaned that and the speedo started working again.
Great video
How many miles would you say is too much before buying a Xj for more than $5000? I see so many for sale with like 150,000 miles for $5000 all the time.. What do you think is a good price-to-mile ratio? It’s going to be my first car and I need help 👍
@@smcfall2 Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help!
@@AutoMotivate Thanks man! This will help me a lot👍keep it jeep
I mean what do you expect its a Chrysler product... there will be a few issues
Thx lil bro for the info
Rust is one of the top problems
If you are lucky enough to find one without much corrosion, you need to go full, retard in with something like fluid film, and then do annual applications after that as needed. Rust is the real enemy.
Not sure if anyone else has noticed but newer vehicles are lasting like 100k before major overhaul’s!?
And by that you mean 100k is a ridiculous low number? If so I would totally agree!
Can just about make out what you are saying: Automotivate- Mumbling thanks for trying
Seems like you are one of the very few, and that's okay.
all doors besides driver door window switch doesn’t work 😂 that’s how mine is
Thanks bro.
LOL you kept showing a picture of a LS swapped jeep. Going to confuse people.
I HOPE people don’t think these Jeep’s come with an LS 😂
But, I can’t expect much, can I?
@@AutoMotivate lmao, let’s hope they buy it if they find one!
What if i can get 1 for free? Northeast so pkenty if rust, what shoukd i look at first???

No wonder Keep cancelled the Jeep XJ CHEROKEE’s in 2001
A “most common problems” Cherokee video without mentioning the 0331 head??? Hmmmm
Not sure how I missed that, but that’s why I encourage people to comment other issues. The years were from late 99-01 for the XJ Cherokees.
Thank you for bringing that up to my attention!
@@AutoMotivate No problem! The only reason I know about it is because mine cracked 🙄 got a re-man that is beefed up in that location.
@@Geebuv Where do they crack on those heads? We are starting to look for a solid jeep to start with as a project for my son and I to work on together.
Hello
I have a 97 xj County and it's nothing but problems. Mainly electrical issues and it's terrible 🤦♂️

Oh yeah here's a little FYI for your steering improvements when you have a lift you want to track bar and your your bar coming off your the bar coming off your ear your pitman arm you want the bar coming off a pitman arm I need track bar to be at the same angle as parallel as possible but you can also take a bushing good shock bushing and cut it in half and put it between the bar that you put it in where the bar coming off the slip at the where the bar coming off the pitman arm the bar coming off a pitman arm to the bar going from from wheel-to-wheel where the pit with a bar coming off the pitman arm connects to the bar with that ball joint you cut a good you cut a good bushing in half not vertically the slip you put it in that that tie rod end that connects to the bar going to your wheels off the bar coming in your pitman armand you'll be pleasantly surprised if you go on Amazon and search the solution for like Jeeps that's what comes up is a little bushing that you can put in there but instead of paying $25 for it most Jeep owners have extra decent bushings if not new bushings laying around that you can shave off and half and a horizontally not vertically and you'll be surprised at the plushness of your steering you're welcome
yes, it has issues..😠
Just like all cars
Great info but very hard to understand narrators english and distracted me greatly from the actual quality of the information and video
Expecting perfection is something that shouldn’t be anticipated.
Nevertheless, thanks for watching!

I never liked the XJ, we have 4 Jeeps in our family, my mom has a 98 ZJ 4.0 with 320k miles still daily drives it original owner, i have a 98 5.9 liter ZJ, and a 90 Grand Wagoneer, brother has a 14 srt8. I dont like the XJ because its, well ugly, ugly outside, dated ugly interior even for later models. Theyre too small inside, no leg room. I honestly prefer the 5.9 liter over the 4.0 its nearly as reliable and twice the power almost
Hey you know I was a little skeptical about watching this video because I bought a bought an XJ long before this video came out but yeah so unfortunately let me give one little pointer two people buying xj's don't buy them at night because I failed to realize that the floorboards were rusted out however the unibody rails we're not so I was able to weld in new floorboards and I am in the process of reinforcing with extra channel iron around the rails and underbody unibody anyway as a side note to the overheating thingwhich is another reason why I'm kicking myself for an extra day because my brother had several and I know x-rays are prone to overheat and I live in the Mojave desert yeah so you want to get a three-course radiator a new fan clutch just right off the bat just if you bought if you buy a tenx Jay and hot wet and a hot climate then you need to just get a three to four core lumina radiator a brand-new fan clutch and put your electric fan on a switch so you can just run it all the time and get a trans cooler I got to be in m24 past trans cooler and just run your transcript or run your trans three transformer and that way you're not putting more heat in your radiator I also have an illegitimate cowl hood which is like the only one I've ever seen on an XJ and it looks dope and yeah don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful so yeah by having the cowl hood three-core radiator new fan clutch and fan on electric fan on switch all the time and bnm trans cooler routing my trans fluid away from my radiator to avoid more heat going into it I'm able to stay below 210 on pretty much hot days even on the highway doing 70 with 35 inch tires and a 6 and a half inch lift but the bottom line is this video was much more educational and informational than I would have definitely given it credit for by the title because you have the title kind of makes me want to not watch it but once you watch it you kind of glad you did and yeah so anyway I've actually got the slip yoke eliminator slip yoke eliminator and I still get their the crazy sounds are starting off but thank you for the information apparently I need to grease my slip yoke eliminator because a slip yoke eliminator basically put two front drivelines on your vehicle I don't know how they recommend it because it really makes the rear articulation very impressive as opposed to having the non slip yoke eliminator with just the slip yoke the slip yoke eliminator places the front driveline in your rear as well as the front and really loves you articulation
