Had a problem the other day, my car was stuck in the garage. I tried to press lock the shift lock button along with depressing the brake pedal. The gear shift still wouldn't budge. I had to call roadside assist. Fantastic Indian gentleman, quickly realised it wasn't a brake issue or actual transmission issue. He took off the cover from the gear shift on my 2009 corolla basically yanked the gear shift around and fixed my gear shift. I took it to the dealership yesterday. They said that the cogs or pins that move the shift from park to gear needed lubricating thus they seized. Bare in mind my car has done over 224000 kms. Toyotas last a lifetime.
