@Chicagoings yeah, in my HE machine at home, I've had issues with that. So now I only use them for travel and I pre-dissovle them in a glass of water if it's a water-conserving machine.
Great tips! 🎉 Layer layer layer! Carry on packing 4LIFE! Truly and sincerely, carry on packing has saved me so many headaches snd hassles …. also, who wants to wait for ages at the conveyor belt in baggage claim?!?! especially when Paris, London, Sydney, and NYC beckon for our attention?!?! I comitt to a 3 colour palatte for my wardrobe whilst I am on the road for 2-4 week stretches. I do laundry every 8-10 days and book at hotels with laundry facilities. Luggage with hardshell cases is preferable too for protecting one’s travel wardrobe in the friendly skies!
You're ahead of me because I can never choose and stick to a color palette. I was in Paris last month, though, and managed to stick to 3 colors (beige, white, and black) and a few accent colors. It made life so much easier. So, that's my goal going forward.
Don’t forget that you can pack things like underwear, socks, bungee laundry cord, and electronics charging cables inside of your tennis shoes and your handbags freeing up space for other things in the main suitcase compartment!
Wow, what an insightful video! I can totally relate to the luggage mishaps and the importance of traveling with a carry-on. Losing luggage can be such a hassle, but it's great that your friend's bag was returned safely. It's unfortunate that your family had to experience missing items, especially the watch. These real-life examples definitely highlight the benefits of traveling light. Thank you for sharing your packing techniques and showing us how you pack using packing cubes. It's impressive how you fit everything in your carry-on. Keep up the great work and safe travels!
Remember weight if you are travelling overseas, they will charge you for being overweight in the case. Compression packing cubes are the best. Wear your heavier pieces, boots, coat, jeans, etc.
I find compression packing cubes encourage travelers to bring too many items, causing heavier luggage. It also isn’t as easy to pull one item from them without making a mess. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for the tips. Because take it from me you don't want to be stressed out because you have alot of luggage. Just experienced that running around Portugal.
Will you do a video with the outfits you packed in your carry-on? The dresses you packed seem so colorful and fun, while so many other carry-on only packing videos always suggest minimalist (read: boring neutrals only) wardrobes!
I’m 73 and going to France in May 2023 for 18 days. Thanks for the great hints. I think I will try to test pack into a carryon and a personal item. I tried a backpack on a recent trip and I didn’t like handling it. Since Part of my trip includes a 10 day painting retreat, I need to bring some art supplies along. Luckily where I’m staying near Toulouse for the retreat has laundry machines.
Did 60 days travelling to UK last summer, seven tops, 3 bottoms, could have travelled with less, as I wore the same outfit for 3 or 4 days, all clothes could be worn with everything else. Only needed 1 woollen cardigan. Took 3 pairs of flats all walking shoes/sandels all could be worn with everything else.
I have the same carry-on 21" but was going to return it because it was an inch bigger than what the domestic airlines stated. Glad I saw your video...guess I'll keep it.
You’re right about the measurements but I’ve never had a problem domestically or internationally. I think this bag has been to over seven countries with me. And I LOVE the break! I hope it works out for you too!!
If I’m really packing minimally and the climate is stable (not going from cold to hot) I pack for 3 days and have a 4th outfit I wear on the plane. One outfit is to be washed, one is drying, and the other two are available for wearing. I do, however, get sick of doing laundry and try to plan around when I get access to a clothes washer so if it’s a two week trip and I get access to a washer on days 5 through 7 I only pack for those first 5 days and wash everything on day 7.
@@Chicagoings will do! I’ve already built my capsule wardrobe for a month in Italy and France this May but seeing it as outfits will be the icing on the cake!
New Subbie.. Brilliant and Hilarious..Thanks 4 the great info.. I Will forever ONLY carry on.. You only have 1 time to lose my bag..lol Safe Journey...
Awesome video! Would love to see how pack for international trip? I struggle with their 311 and quart bag rule. I have a hard time finding good dual voltage hair tools, having a converter and an adapter is not enough. Your hair tools will still burn out if they’re are not dual voltage!
Many newer hair tools actually convert automatically (I just found this out!). It's been years since i accidentally almost burned down a hotel in Sweden because my curling iron got too hot. I've never had the prob since. :) I hope this works for you!!! Thank you for watching.
I did pack a good light carry on but in winter needed to buy extra vlothing as snow and freezing thenbhad tonleave it all plus my usb stick broke so lost most of photos as one drive didnt function correctly either! From uk they weigh it all so going to have to lose so much again as nowhere to leave things here storage prohibitive. Dwtermined to carry on after my bag got lost no vompensation vost me 12 extra days in mex city plus paying agency to try to get it then bus comoany lost it again!!! Never again!!!
Hello Chicagoings! Your video showed up in my feed today so I am viewing for the first time. Loved the intro stories, LOL! I had to chuckle as I watched you putting "elbow grease" into zipping those zippers because that is me! LOL LOL Great tips. Do you cruise and if so do you pack the same way in cases where washers aren't available on the ship or do you carry more because you don't like to hand wash clothing?
Thank you so much!!! I’m just happy I didn’t have to sit on the bag while closing it this time. Would have been awkward in the video 🤣 I don’t cruise, but I’ve been on a few. With a cruise, if your luggage is lost, you’re really in a bad situation. So I would still try to bring a carryon only.
Half the flights I've been on have required that the carry-on go in the luggage hold once we arrive at the gate! The airline claims they don't have enough room in the overhead compartments for all the customers.
Same happened for my recent flights. Constant announcements for people to check their carry-ons. I checked my luggage upon arrival and didn't have to worry about it. But others had some stress.
I plan out my outfits, too. I use the Stylebook app and have it on my phone so I can just glance at the day and what we’re doing to know what I planned to wear. Makes it SO much easier!
What carry-on did you use for your trip? I may have missed it, what you packed was that for an international or domestic trip you planned? Most, if not all international flights have reduced weight and dimension limits on bags compared to domestic flights. And some international airlines are pretty strict on guidelines. Were you able to get through security with the toiletry bag you featured in the video, domestic or internationally? Security typically want liquids in a clear quart bag, not mixed with other toiletry items. Having to separate at security check would be a pain. Especially having to do it twice, as you may have to encounter additional security at the gate before boarding. Thank you for sharing!
Hey there! This is how I pack for both domestic and international flights. I’ve flown with standard and budget airlines, such as Ryan Air and EasyJet, with no problem. However, you are right about my toiletries bag. It should be clear. However, I have NEVER had a problem with it in any country, save for once in STN airport where they indeed made everyone put their liquids in a quart sized ziplock bag. This is the carry-on I use: amzn.to/3Fmmg28 Please let me know if you have more questions ❤️
@@Chicagoings thank you so much! Sometimes it gets frustrating when there IS a standard but sometimes it gets overruled depending upon the mood of security or ticketing agent. Thanks again for sharing and safe travels!
I do. The only exception is London, where i put my liquids in the clear quartz bag they provide. Otherwise, yes, I just lay the toiletry bag flat in the bin and have never had a problem.❤️
@@Chicagoings I packed my carryon and backpack last night to last me through February lol. Grateful I'm a leggings and tee girl lol. The sneakers was the hardest part 🥴
Good question! I have flown both standard and budget European airlines, such as Ryan Air and Easyjet. Never have I had a problem with the weight of my bag. However, for peace of mind, I recommend using a luggage scale at home.
I have my luggage stolen at a hotel luggage hold !! It was so shocking !! Brand new Victoria's secret underwear & bra (V.S.'s Pink ) an one piece from Amazon, great body hugging t tops mom gave me from Japan ,etc !! Around $500 total,at 1st I thought it was around $350 . Including instant body warmers w adhesives from Japan. It was in Cardiff, Wales. They were in a transition to change under another hotel. I hate to say this, but because of the sizes & things like instant body warmers ( non Japanese wouldn't be familiar with ) ,I suspected a Japanese lady ( my fellow Japanese ) did it sadly. In UK.& European countries, we should do carry on only traveling, because of the stony roads ,especially cobble stones damage the wheels as well as the wheels get stuck between the stones !! I couldn't move at all dragging my luggage ,kept getting stuck !! Lol. I knew about the stony roads as I had been to UK / EUROPE before ,but I got two luggage for free w my flights ! So,I changed my mind at last minute !! Bad decision !! Lol lol I regretted it immediately after I arrived in Wales !! Lol 😆 😅💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️🇬🇧💞
Hi I was wondering what I could do to help son? He has CP and wears a full knee imobilizer in each leg. It helps him walk so going without is not an option. Would he need to pac more or less? Thanks mimi

@@Chicagoings thanks I forgot to mention he wears leg brace to bed , so it is part of luggage. Also food he needs more just to get around. What about space for extra food? Thank you.
Great video, but how were you able to pack carry-on only with all those liquids in that bag that isn't a quart sized bag? This would only work if you are checking your luggage. I really wish more content creators doing these carry-on only videos actually followed carry-on rules 100% because, although you put the "follow TSA 3-1-1 rules" you aren't really showing how to put that into true practice and someone who doesn't travel much is going to think they can take all these liquid items packed in a bag like you are using. Just a little deceiving.
Sorry you feel deceived but i'm here to tell you - THIS IS WHAT I PACK - everywhere but London. I've been to over 10 countries with this exact amount of liquid in my bag. Last time I was in London, I transferred it into the clear quart sized bag they supplied at the airport. I had to toss one bottle of shampoo and one mostly used face serum. Everything else fit.
