Using an army style back pack seems like a good idea. Since I don't have the money to purchase a Quad Cortex, I'm sticking with my old analog pedals and Zoom G1. I'm also planning on using an old laptop just to see how it behaves.
That should work just fine, the QC or another modeller at its price bracket is by no means a necessity in any application really :) I'm planning to make a video testing a rig that runs off an old ipod touch, and I know people have had good results with that or old iphones.

No, John Petrucci was actually preparing for his live show in London (which I was at), he didnt have the time for my instruments xD
