      +ChiefShittingBull "Middle-aged old biddy" my skinny arse! You are very clearly NOT British, or if you are you were not born when this interview was aired and therefore have no idea who Val Singleton was. Bowie knew who she was! That's why he agreed to be interviewed by her.

    These interviewers ask the stupidest questions. It's more of an interigation. You can ask these bizarre questions to anyone.. you have a talented musician in front of you, and these are the best questions you have to ask? About his sexual preference ?? Who gives a shit.. i want to know about his recording process or what he's listening to that's influencing him.

      +tyler gates You clearly do not realise that this interview took place in 1979, just a few short years after Bowie made his decleration of bisexuality, and Ziggy was still the image a lot of people had of Bowie. And expecting a daytime TV interview to go into recording details and such, is ridiculous.

    Must’ve been so frustrating for Bowie to have to deal w/lacking interviews. Just think all of the info and wisdom that they could’ve been getting from him.
    Reminds me of something similar Roger Federer recently said about idiotic interviewers- something to the tune of, why not make the most out of someone who just may have some genuine helpful and interesting insight to give?! ...Instead of wasting time with monotonous and redundant crap- often even insulting.
    Bowie was such an amazing, wonderful, brilliant man. Listening to some of these interviews can be worst than cringey..yet they’re all we’ve got now.😟

    • @Nopedontgiveadamn
      @Nopedontgiveadamn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Si Si I have to say I don't agree - maybe she was one of the better journalists of the era but this isn't a very good interview. Super-aggressive for no apparent reason (unless she has the hots for him - which is what it looks like). The questions are predictable - all very "pop-psych". She's clearly not someone especially interested in Bowie's work beyond the sensational aspects of it. She's obviously never seen Just a Gigolo either, because Bowie looks quite different in that to the way he does in the interview - his hair is similar but he doesn't appear to be "in character" as she suggests. Bowie was very polite about it though and played along - which is to his credit. I found the whole thing rather M.O.R. and ho-hum - though I will admit it gets somewhat better towards the end but that's mostly to do with the depth of Bowie's answers rather than the interviewer's skill.

  • @outsidethepyramid
    @outsidethepyramid 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There's a provoking line of questioning in this interview, right from the start. It was the style back then, it was a battle. The interviewers were trying to emulate the king of chat Michael Parkinson I reckon. Watch the Ali vids.
    It just looks like she's being really rude now, but the King of cool deals with her perfectly.
    ""Why did you change so often? what was the need for it? was it just a gimmick?".

    Val Singleton wasnt a bad looking mature gal back in the day, I was impressed how well she scrubbed up after shedding her School Ma'am Blue Peter image.

    I wish he had acted more, and directed, like he said he planned to do here.

    If Val is still alive and if she watches this again i think she will be very embarrassed even shameful.

    "A real David Bowie"? There was a real David Jones... I've seen so many of these interviews where I wish I had been the researcher/producer.

    I love David, and this sure was not the best interviewer. But... some of the comments on here. WTF?
    Calling her a "cunt", wishing death on her. Cop the fuck on! She's bad yes, but did she also commit a crime? Did she kill someone? This interview was from the 70s.... David was not your everyday singer/songwriter. She did not know any better. Ge over it. And again, I love David Bowie but he did survive this interview, right?
