OMG! This made my day. Sometimes I feel like you two (Heather and Kat) can read my mind when sharing experiences - the checkout line, need of feeling useful, fewer spoons/more slices of pie, making your own magic... 😆 DPF thanks for sharing this unfiltered podcast with us and lessons on how to live better now!

I absolutely adored this podcast. You ladies are great. Having only had Parkinson’s for several years, I am only getting to be able to relate to some of the things that you all were talking about -you give me hope that I’m going to get through this with a sense of humor.!! Thanks so much

Thank you for this show. Between Parkinson's and a really bad heart I have had to adjust a lot. I tell people when I meet them "I'm not drunk, I have Parkinson's" it always relieves any tension. I too depend on the grocery cart to be my walker and I hate self checkout so I go really slow there. I also forget to call people and return messages but that's how it is. I have a younger wife and 2 kids, one in 6th grade and one graduating next week. I won't be going on his collage tour this summer because there is no way I can spend 8 hours touring campus and going to meeting and you know what? It's OK with me and the family. Now that I'm retired I cook dinner most every day and do a load or 2 of laundry. It can take all day to do that but I start early prepping dinner and I make the kids carry the laundry up and down the stairs. Thank you for the inspiration.

I can also relate to the check out line, or voice of an old crush, or stalker, (either one 😳) out of nowhere when I'm feeling the least attractive. This always has happened though. ...and I have been dealing with hillbilly teeth since midway through the lockdown. I should be used to talking myself through almost every scenario by now. Sometimes I handle things well and sometimes not. I try to make a note of things I wish I said later, in case it comes up again. Going outside does, really help.

Here's an article about "green and blue spaces" (think parks, forests, rivers, lakes, etc) and neurological conditions: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9856892/

My most effective mobility gear can be a little stigmatizing, because it doesn't seem like high tech or sleek government issue. I had to figure out a way to meet my combination of needs. Thus I push my own right height for me to ergonomically push manual heavy duty wheelchair while walking or sitting in myself, which I've also modified to work like my own personal shopping cart, with a container that can ride in it like a person would, carry the weight of a person, and that has a water tight lid that can serve a a table top or tray top for me wherever I am, rain or shine. I can set it off if I'm about to drop and need to sit down, and construct a shelter or shade over it. This provides a lot of stability while still allowing me to navigationally cane, while I walk, and go a little slower or faster as needed to deal with or mitigate dystonia, heat exhaustion and extreme sunburn, and any other need I might have in the always survival kit, hanging off the back. The lid can also be locked with a bicycle cord, if necessary. Can also load it with dry ice if I need to, and took my filing cabinet with me across town on the fixed route to a government building a couple weeks ago. If I'm about to drop I can set the container off and construct an umbrella for shade or rain, and drape my rain poncho over all of it while I'm wearing the poncho too, walking or sitting just a $3 hooded sports poncho from the hunting department of Walmart. It's much safer for me to cross the road without tripping up or freezing while using the chair as a walker. Faster too if I lean over hands on the armrest rails from behind the chair to add momentum going across. I can't tip it over or out from under me. I have once in awhile bucked things off, if the smaller front wheels catch too big of a gap at the street edges of curb cuts. The city will put hay in the gaps if I call or email.
