That sound american marathon is bautiful even if not as magic and hard as Dakar, at least, there is a huge variety of terrains, nature, and beautiful girls on podium. The Dakar was surrounded by mysery, that was not very ethical. They should call it Ushuaïa rally now

Since the Dakar left Africa, at least moroccan, Mauritania and Senegal deserts host a marathon rally on the path of the old Dakar, and it's better now coz there are no professionnal factory teams, so it's closer to the original Dakar spirit. Plus there are also other marathon and historic rallies taking place in morocco each year. If the Dakar refuse to go to Africa, it's due to greedy insurance companies that are afraid of everything that would be considered as a risk for theire finances, so terrorism fear was just an excuse. And I guess constructors were also behind that decision. South american market is more profitable than the poor African continent
