    You're awesome. I just watched all your lathe vids and I'm extremely impressed.
    PLEASE be more careful w/ your back. I've suffered 18 years of back problems because I lifted one of those old fat tire minibikes the same way you lifted that engine. POP, ruptured a disc. Next week I'm having vertebrae fused with rods and screws, my second back surgery. Been on disability since December after 18 years of painfully suffering thru work and finally couldn't do it anymore. I'm 37.
    I was 19 and playing college baseball at the time I ruptured that disc, I could run 4 miles a day no problem and bench 325 8 times, so being in shape doesn't cut it...you gotta think before you lift. A blown disc will ruin your future with machining and riding off road stuff....Don't end up like me, you're too talented.

    You must lift with your knees! I've thrown out my back a few times because of improper lifting procedures and I'm only 31. It's absolutely debilitating. The way my doctor described the mechanics to me is like so -- when you bend over to pick something up, your lower back becomes the base of a long lever, and the weight supported there can be as much as 10 times what you're lifting. lifting a 100 pound engine? That's 1000lbs your lower back is trying to support.
    Great video, I'm new to the channel and loving it, but your lifting techniques will hurt you if you're not careful.

    I really enjoy watching your video. You make the process look so easy, but I guess the videos hide a lot of standing, staring and head-scratching while you figure out solutions?

  • @kwatt-engineer796
    @kwatt-engineer796 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful fabrication. You could have reduced the complexity of the front suspension by welding a vertical tube to the pivot for the spindle support. Then you could have used a tube between the top and bottom pivots and welded the spindle directly to that, similar to what you did to your "A" arm pivot on the frame. This would have avoided the turning restriction caused by the channel iron contacting the steering arm. I am currently building the "A" arm suspension for an off road cart& was noodling over this same issue. The I had an Aha ! moment and this solution presented itself. When you do your triangulation of frame members it is better to terminate your tubes at the corner of another triangle. Connecting at mid span induces a bending moment that can compromise the structure. Think in terms of, it is best for your members to be in pure tension or compression for maximum strength . there will be exceptions, but this is a good rule of thumb to follow. Again, I am impressed with your design and fabrication skills.

    That Honda engine would be an awesome swap in the future but they are a really high revving engine and aren't tuned for torque if you could find an old 400xr or 400ex Honda they would be ideal for this kind of project they make less HP than that 600 but they still make plenty enough torque and HP and they make it in a rpm range that is much better for the speeds you will be using this at most of the time, plus their air cooled so no radiator like with the 600. Other similar fairly cheap options would be a 350 warrior or raptor, Suzuki Drz 400,or even a 300ex although their down on power compared to the others still a lot stronger and smoother than that 420 and they have 5 forward gears and reverse. I think this is a cool project man good job.

    Liked the build except like at 15:10.You need to put a piece of tubing,or solid stock whenever you butt weld 2 pcs of tubing together so it won't be near as prone to breaking.Safety first! ;-)

    Bro tack it up, check it, then weld it. Don't stick it where it needs to be and just weld it solid. I know it takes longer but it's a good habit to get addicted to

    I see youre using thick walled Water pipes for frame tubes - this is VERY HEAVY!!! you can go by your local Garage door place and get the tube axle that Garage doors use for the roll-up type with the coil springs and the cables and pulleys , THAT TUBE is perfect size for GoKart frames, and is SUPER strong, way thinner walled and lighter than water pipe, AND most garage door places have piles of it around back from tearing out old ones and selling the customer new ones, you can usually get a bunch of it cheap or FREE.........

      @sykwookiee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eclidean ...in the old days, maybe the free or cheap thing was true...my son is an installer and trust me when I say that MOST, most garage door companies sell all of the old pieces for scrap and either add it to the bottom line or use the money for bonuses and the like...my son almost got fired for taking a lockbar to fix my door with...narrow profit margins have made companies very picky about their scrap...and really? Who can blame them?

    Can I get measurements/bend angles for the frame? I want to build something like this myself but I need dimensions along with what size tubing you used and where I can get some for relatively cheap

    Just and idea for you. if you have a blown up predator or other engine maybe you can try putting one of your transmissions inside one so it can run in oil or maybe find a way to do like you did with the dirt bike transmission you had beind a predator. My thought was that was a cool idea cause it added a working clutch for shifting.

    rather B welding for all your predator engine questions, go to CarsandCameras channel, they are the youtube predator experts. Great project, keep up the good work!

    Sometimes welding sealed bearings the arc will pass thru the bearings and melt them or disfigure them.

    Great video. The two parts you're making at 6:10, which you then affix to a short tube and weld them together. Is there a reason you didn't just machine that part as one whole? What am I missing?
