Emergency: 154 Breaks a Knuckle and Separates at Gainesville and 42G with Southern Pacific

I went out to catch 42G with the patched Southern Pacific unit and caught 154 as it passed Gainesville. Just as the DPU passed the station the train went into emergency. One of the knuckles broke and the train separated right next to me. I’ve seen air hoses pop and trains go into emergency but never saw one separate. Fortunately it happened in a good spot and crews were there to fix it and it was moving again in less than an hour. A lot of people showed up to see that and 42G. Unfortunately my external mic experiment has turned out to be a complete failure. I put tape over all the built in mics and when I start recording it uses the external mic then decides hey! For no good reason I think I’ll use this other mic instead. Even though it’s covered in tape and virtually no sound is getting through. So I’m really sorry about the muffled sound on the 42G. I was very disappointed when I heard it all. Back to the drawing board again!

If I might make a recommendation as to an external mic, many years ago I discovered that Audio-Technica makes outstanding stereo mics.

Awesome catches and video! So this is what happened ahead of NS 42G. I got him in Buford, GA and then it went into emergency. Anyways. That's so shocking that a knuckle on the train would break. The Greenville and Piedmont Districts have not fared well this year so far.

I have a pro video app on here but I haven’t taken the time to test it out. It has a setting to lock the mic to the front. I will have to test it in the field to see if it works.
