Out of nowhere the beat played in my head as I was studying ( well not out of nowhere whenever I study random things enter my mind) so I came at it. Feels good I have to come back after reading an another chapter. Psychopathology it is 😬.
I grew up on this in South Africa, I bought the audio tape in high school. One time my mom walked into my room while Kurupt was reciting his last line. She was like, "Uthini?", "What is he saying?". I swear that was not easy on me.
I never thought that this was a diss song to New York but a tribute to the NYC and also a remake of the original "New York - New York" song by GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five.
NY NY wasn't originally supposed to be a diss track. It was supposed to be a tribute to New York. The birth place of Hip Hop. All these cats grew up on New York hip hop. For the first decade of rap it all came from NY.They were going to get Nas to be in it and all kinds of shit. Some of the lyrics were even copied from some old Furious Five verse. But when they were filming in NY the word went out that they were filming a video dissing NY and a bunch of goons went down and shot up the Dog pounds Trailer while they were still in it. No one got hurt but The Dog Pound was pissed and got out of dodge the next day and finished the video in studio with them kicking down buildings and shit. Sad, it probably would have been better as a unification video.
David Curry Well if your referring to Tupac getting shot up in NY and the fact that NY radio wouldn't play a lot of west coast hip hop for awhile than yeah you right. But for the most part it was a media driven thing. Truthfully more about beef between Bad Boy and Dath Row than East vs West.
it was Biggie. Biggie went on Hot97 or something and was callin NY weak for letting west coast cats shoot a video about their city, bringing lowriders and shit through they home turf. Thats when the shootings start and Snoop left first. Daz and Kurupt finished filming and then they added the green screen stuff with them being Godzillas. And you're right, Nas was supposed to be on Dogg Food but Suge wasnt having it and I Got My Mind Made Up was also supposed to be a DPG vs Wu-Tang battle track for Dogg Food but it got delayed and they gave it Tupac
I remember when this dropped in 1995, at the height of the east coast vs west coast beef in the Rap game. Honestly thiugh, that was the media that fueled the flames. We New Yorkers were feeling the west coast cats and I'd like to think vice versa.
I'm from New York and all I gotta say is kurupt better be in top west coast rappers of all time not with Daz but just himself cuz he's the real west cost OG
The Pound recorded this song out of respect for NY in general. They even switched their style up for it. But since NY took it as a diss and responded with disses, DPG dissed in the video itself with the buildings getting kicked over. But the lyrics didn't change. If you listen to songs where they actually did diss somebody, like "What Would U Do," you can see that they didn't even have the same intention for NY. Not until NY wanted problems.
I remember when I way a 17 year old when this came out in (1997) . And MTV and BET did not want to show it yet they were scared. But me and some friends back in 97 eventuality saw it anyway. And we and I'm from New York even this shit was the shit this goes hard dam . I even like the beat and the hook. Even though I lived all rap back then even now even Snoop Dogg & Pac and West Coast . Evan though I'm from the East. This was bump in back then . I miss this time in Hip Hop East Coast Vs West Coast Hip Hop rap era. I was a teenager in the (1990's) . This was a cool time to have lived in as a kid in this history back then . I miss the 90's this is like a childhood time machine called You-Tube much love.

Most Underated song in hip hop. Kurrupt is impeccable
Yes this song is very Underrated but raw as hell
Yes 🙌 Raw as fucj
Totally Agree
You really think so, I think it’s a pretty basic tune. Average verses from kurupt, a terrible chorus from snoop, and no verses from Daz or snoop.
@@james5780 what's your favourite kurrupt verse then?
snoop with the perm is the most G you will see from the 90s.
I was living in the Bronx when this came out. This video was always on MTV, but you was a crazy person if you played it in the park.😁😁😁
They were in the Opp block forreal.
The golden age. It’ll never go this hard again.

The production on this album is elite. G-Funk till I die.
