I didn’t realize preformed back powder charges are available for pistols! I grew up with measured powder charges, which was a mess to deal with. This is opening new purchasing options. 😉
I agree. Minimal experience with black powder. My dad loved the stuff. Could hit targets readily to one hundred yards. This would be nice to keep as a backup defense weapon as no laws prohibit ANYONE from owning them unlike other firearms.
The cows expressions at the end 😂 seem to be asking: "So whatcha doin' there, human? What's all that ruckus 🤨" Really interesting (but slow) reloading process 👍

Pyrodex does not chain fire, and the balls were crimped in. Caps are sure lock. Modern powder gun guys. Pay attention. Your life mite need to depend on it
Pyrodex does chainfire when balls don't seal correctly. If a primer can ignite pyrodex so will hot flames and gasses from another cylinder. Your life may depend on it
@@Jesuslovesyou929 Pyrodex does chain fire, don't say stuff online when you don't know what the hell you're talking about. It's less likely to than real gunpowder, but it does happen. Even with a good seat of the ball I had mine chain fire, was using Pyrodex as well. I take bore butter and run over the end cylinder to stop that, I watched something one time they explained why we have to use a bore butter or similar substance for chain firing and the diameter of the ball used now days is smaller than the original ball sizes used when these pistols were in service.

in what real life situation would you need more than one or two revolvers anyway? in practice instead of carrying multiple revolvers you just bring multiple people with you.
@@dolsopolartraveling in that time was pretty dangerous actually. You could have been attacked by outlaws on the way. Bringing a few more men with you is much more expensive than carrying extra one or two revolvers. This is why dual wielding revolvers were a thing in the past because revolvers took a lot of time reload they carried two or three for that reason
I've been familiarizing myself with all kinds of firearms for the past 16 years, including black powder ones; yet this is legit the first time I see a molded, cylindrical black powder pellet 😲 Since when has that been a thing??
That is some really clean engraving on the gun. And today I learned that pre-formed black powder charges are a thing. Sadly, it doesn't seem to make the reloading go much faster...
Get rid of those pellets, and use loose powder. A near chamber full, maybe 1/8" -1/4" below the top of the cylinder, of Pyrodex RS or P works great in revolvers. Real black is also an option, but that is not as easily attainable for a lot of folks. Some shooters swear by Hodgdon 777, and it is fine also in revolvers. Not so great in side locks, as it does not ignite as easily. Then get a .454 or .457 round ball, those undersized balls falling into the chamber was scary, and they are in no way engaging the rifling. I smear lube, shortening mixed with beeswax, over the ball. Some prefer over powder wads, but I get the best results by using the method described. A full load or pyrodex will give you 850 fps if compressed tightly at loading. That is a real world result over the chrono using that shortened barrel and a proper sized round ball.
Love the cows in the end of the clips also that ol gun criminals can own at home n used in self defense stand your ground law because it's considered antique
Three things I notice wrong here, one being the pistol is to Shiney to fire on a sunny day. Second is the balls are too loose for the cylinder, they should shave a ring . Third is no lube over the ball. The balls need lube so the barrel gets lubricated and doesn't leave lead fouling in the rifling...
Love the old cap and ball revolvers , bought an old colt .36 cal after Nam at a gun show in Ft Worth and it was extremely accurate. I really like this Marshall revolver and it's a beautiful gun but, like many the engraving is unnecessary... Love your video
A Very Cool Gun To Display (Probably Limited Edition) Still People Probably Won't Buy This To Use In A Fight But Maybe Collection Or A One Time Shooting/Standoff Would Be Used
Very nice pistol. You might consider slightly larger round balls. Ideally they should shave a lead ring off when rammed in the cylinder to get optimal performance.
That ball doesn't seem to have the tightest fit in the world Yes you ain't gunna chainfire with that typa propellant. But you obviously still want that shit niiice and tight

A beautiful weapon...just a simple question: Can the cylinder be replaced with a cartridge cylinder? If so, the cartridge that can be used is a black powder cartridge, or can white powder ammunition be used?

It's a cap and ball black powder single action revolver. Tactical was never a option.
I’m not a black powder guy, so I found this vid fascinating. I never knew there was such a thing as preformed black powder cylinders.
I didn’t realize preformed back powder charges are available for pistols! I grew up with measured powder charges, which was a mess to deal with. This is opening new purchasing options. 😉
I didn’t know about it either, but that’s certainly more convenient than loose powder.

You need a bigger Dia ball.. should have a lead ring after pushing ball into cylinder.. im thinking. .454

Black powder guns are great.
If the balls are just falling into the cylinder they are WAY too small. Those do not look like .454 round balls.

Your life may depend on it.
Undersized balls will allow chainfire and wont seal against the rifling causing loss in velocity and accuracy. Your life might depend on it
