Why does everyone think electrolytes n using wire brush is the way to do it. Try using 2 part black molasses 1 part water, soak for 3 weeks stir daily. It will remove rust without eroding the metal

A none toxic rust remover would work better. Old rusted guns like this can be restored to look new but with rust you always lose some metal. Firearms use exact tolerances to operate SAFELY.
As long as it's not a sewer pipe inside and he doesn't use really hot ammo it'd probably be okay to fire. It might not hit anything though if that rifling is too eroded
When are these so called restorer’s gonna get a proper set of hollow ground screwdrivers instead of crap ones that ruin screws or pins as they’re called in the trade
I have distain for self proclaimed restorers who deliberately damage a project to create unnecessary drama. Genuine craftsmen would never do that. 👎down.

Or .. soak in lemon juice and clean with scotch Brite pad
I find the wire brush to be a waste of time. However the dremel is an awesome tool. I'm but I absolutely have zero experience doing any of this
