Honestly, I always associate the Iceman model with System of A Down
For me I always associate it with Dragonforce (And specifically Sam Totman)
Genuine recommendation from someone who’s used Drop C for over a decade: 10’s are generally fine except for the lower strings where you might not have enough tension and your notes might even go off pitch while you’re playing, so the best solution in your scenario might be to consider the Light Top-Heavy Bottom sets where the top 3 strings are from a 10’s set and the lower 3 strings are from 11’s. Just a suggestion though. I thoroughly enjoy your content regularly btw, keep up the sick work!
He k ows it all already .he's in his 20s..lol good try telling him ..
That Faded Line cover was impeccable.
Showing a lotta love towards the community with the product placement in this one. Big ups to ya for that move. 🤘🤘🤘
Solid upgrade. I am hoping they'll be available stateside after NAMM. I need one of these. I may leave it stock if the pickups have a decent vibe through my rig. I have a 90s IC300 and some modern Paul Stanley guitars to have that iceman shape, this would be superior. Thanks for the review and demo.
They already are available on Sweetwater! Link in description
Daron Malakian approves
Awesome axe. amazing song too. LOG have the best riffs
10-52 is absolutely amazing for drop c. Low tension makes everything better
I’m curious to try Ernie Ball’s Ultra Slinky 10-48 set in Drop C.
@@MichaelD8393i prefer 10-52 on a 25.5 scale for dropped C
@@Ottophil Yeah that’s my current preference for Drop C on a 25.5 inch scale. I’d like to see how a slightly lighter gauge would handle it.
I do 11-49 for drop c on a 24.75” 😅 I catch flak for that from friends, but I play very lightly, even when I’m playing heavy lmao they’re perfect for me
Although I'm of the age where Paul Stanley should be who I think of when it comes to the Ibanez Iceman, he isn't. It's Daron Malakian for me!
I always love seeing what other people do to their guitars. In a similar way to your Iceman, I have a Lake Placid Blue Fender Strat with a vintage look but just a single humbucker, also in dropped C with 10-46 strings. I have dainty hands so I like a looser feel. The sleeper chug machines are just so much fun. :P
Your wife misses you. Go to her. Be a fireman. Maybe Paul Gilbert. Go to Paul Gilbert. He misses you.
Idk if it's already been said, but if you ever need to redrill body holes in the future try using a hobby knife to cut a circle in the finish around the hole. Should the paint chip, it won't go beyond the circle.
automatically liking this one!! icemans are so dope
"I turned this Ibanez into a riff machine", C'mon man let's be honest you could turn a First Act acoustic with a warped neck into a riff machine, STOP THE CAP BRO!!🧢
It just means that he upgraded it, which is exactly what he did. Idk why you think he lied at all lol
with enough part everybody can turn anything into a riff machine
Google the word "Facetious" please, sheesh. The internet will always internet I guess😕@@caelanwatson9812
@@jonnyf9049just change pickups and thats it
That's a good looker.... great color..always wanted an iceman or the one that's got a smaller body slightly..thanx for the vid
Needs more Celtic Frost riffs
Those picks are thicker than the population of china
Usually I use ernie ball 10-54 they work great for drop C while not being too thick so you can play leads
10-52 works perfect for when I play in D or drop C.
You don't know much it warms this ole bumpkin's heart to hear a young man with a British accent, living in Germany, use the term: y'all. Like what ya did with the new singlecut, by the way.
Maybe it's just me but when I think of ibanez iceman I picture Sam Totman from Dragonforce, Paul Stanley isn't my first thought. Paul Gilbert would be second to come to mind with his fireman
That's really nice. Also, I quite enjoyed the riffs in the demo.
Use the big orange amp power section for the lil orange
@user-et4xv4fs9x really you mean it? Can I give u my social security number?
I am running out of guitar shapes. And this is one i don’t have. I’m mostly an SG guy. And so is Darron Malalian. But he used these live for a while. I wonder how much they are similar. He was in dropped C for those albums too
Those pickups were surely a well-deserved thank you. He got three sales off me from your video. Those plectrums are great. Would never have known had you not done a video.
Wow, what a sound! I like it. You can put a kind of a grey pickup-rail on the trussrod-cover. For larger holes you can use masking tape to protect the finish. There are special drills. I am using fine sand-paper. Some people use the dremel tool. There are many possibilities to change the nut. Router, dremel tool, rasp and so on. There are webster-nuts. With screws you can adjust the height of every string. For the low C-String you can have a slighty higher position. Best Quickwash 🤟🏻 🦝 🐾
@user-et4xv4fs9x why?
Potentiometers don’t have impedance. Speakers do. Pots have resistance. They are both measured in ohms. Think of impedance as resistance for AC instead of DC. Resistance is simple, but impedance involved inductance and capacitance
Potato potato innit
Great chugs bro 🙂 Thank you for recording and featuring one of the new IC420 Iceman! Like to see Iceman content. I've been a Ibanez fan since 1977 and I am so happy to see these things back in stock in the US soon. 👍🏻 🤩
If you wanna buy one, Sweetwater link is in the description! 😎
Hey man! Not sure if you know this trick but for those plastic nuts that bind and wear down, use graphite from a pencil and put shavings in each string slot and it acts like a dry lubricant helping wear and tuning stability!!! Sick build brotha! 🤘
10s my friends are indeed
Not fine. I can’t play with dental floss 🤣
It's already a riff machine
the sure grip 3 knobs are like 10 bucks a pop and i was sceptical at first but after buying 1 pair i upgraded all of my main guitars to them, the best knobs around imho + they look awesome
We definitely need more Icemen in the metal community. This would be more of a classic rock piece for me, so hopefully those stock pickups with the lovely engraving can handle that.
Nice upgrades! I really want an iceman, but it’s gotta have a trem for me. This thing is totally sick though!
I need an iceman so bad becsuse of daron malakian
3:26 Potentiometers have resistance (Ohm), impedance is for coils to describe their "complex resistance" (resistance under alternating current)
Cool mod. A before and after riffage demo would have been nice
used painters tape on surface when drilling
I don't see what the deal is with people whining about how 10s aren't suitable for Drop C. I play Drop C with 10-46s and they feel fine. I used to use 10-52s, but I like the feel of the normal 10s set more for Drop C
That aint no riff machine, its now a C H U G monster.
Btw hows your back doing now?
since I play stand C# with 10-52, 10s for drop c should be enough
I love the Quik change tailpiece, and the Gibraltar bridge, yours looks bit smaller than the one on my old Iceman.
But as long as you were making changes, black pickup rings would look so much better.
I kinda like the cream ones, I wanted something to still match the binding!
@@sixstringtv1 fair enough, my Archtop is like that the cream rings match the binding, and since they are not standard sizes it was tricky to replace them. After all it is your guitar, andas you pointed out the feel is important, and to me the Iceman feels great
How’s the neck dive on this? My ic500 has terrible dive.
Hardly any
10s are amazing for drop c. I support it. Also, love that Tonewood slam.
so glad ibanez brought back the iceman, love the video
I used to have an ICT700, I regret getting rid of it. These 400's look..... great in theory, but a straight downgrade of the 700. The output jack placement and the vintage-esque finish options aren't doing it for me. Good video though, and glad they are bringing back the body shape in general
You say you're tuning to Drop C but it's actually in Drop C#. Also, those Lace humbuckers are the most active-sounding passive pickups.
Personally, the guitar is amazing. Sounds killer! But your pick is WAY to small.
Looks sick wish they would have a
contoured version
Shaft thickness isn't necessarily due to full size/mini pot differences - That'll be metric/imperial differences 😉🤣
My experience with Lace Deathbuckers is that those are very noisy and microphonic. I had two of them on my project as Lace sent me another couple if the originals very somehow faulty. Well the problem didn't go away and i had to swap em to a completely different pickups set as the noise on those Alumitones was unbearable...
i use 9s for E, 10s for Eb, 11s for D standard and 11 to 58 for Drop C. Still thinner than most ppl so I understand!
OK so I thought I should update you on the guitar nut: I actually removed the plastic one on mine, and the Graphtech 6643 is too short for this model. It seems that the stock one is taller and slimmer. Slimming down the graphtech is not a problem, but in order to achieve the proper height, you might need to put shims under it or buy a blank nut and make one yourself. Mine came with some high frets, so I am thinking of sending it to Thomann to get it Plekked and also having them replace the nut.
The link for the Gotoh tuners doesn't work.
Could you please tell me what the part number is?
Thanks!
haven't seen the alumitones in a while. i have a set in my 8 string, love those things.
Lace Deathbucker is always nice to see, really wanted to try a set out someday
If you do ever decide to experiment with a little more tension on the low strings, the Ernie Ball ultra slinky set are 10 to 48. They sounded killer in C.
Wait lace humbuckers do that sound? I myself would like to install invaders on mine.
Sounded great. Very few people mention the pot resistance, or the cap. Which make a huge difference, and is a well hidden secret. I gave up changing pickups years ago, modelers have all but made that a none issue, and a waste of money.... But free pickups are always cool if some else gives them to you.... I have both locking and none locking tuners, and I find the difference in restringing time is minimal, at best. I have also run into more than a few locking tuners that needed modded to go thicker in string size. That can really suck depending on the hardness of the metal used in the tuner. And how it is designed in the case of some designs that are murder to drill and require doing so in a drill press.. Not usually an issue on a standard length 6 string, most of the time. But rears its ugly head on 7 and 8 string tuners a lot more than I first thought it ever would. The nut would probably come right off of that neck with zero issue as well. It is a cheap Chinese guitar after all, sold at a very expensive price...... All made in the same plant in Qingdau China that $49 guitars come out of..... You just pay $600 bucks more for the Ibanez name......
I use 10-56 for drop A on a standard scale ex-400
10-42 is my ideal drop c set
Ibanez if you see this, please make a plain black iceman or plain white with no Paul Stanley crap on it. Just a nice sleek guitar without all the nonsense
There's got to be a couple of songs by kiss that you like a lot of the earlier stuff was heavy but it was all recorded in mono because we only had a.m.radio
It definitely chugs!!
Nice guitar. Keep practicing, you’ll get there.
Dduuudde when i was a kid ny band use to cover the faded line almost every show
I dislike and love that silly guitar at the same time. I dont really get em but i want one.
Thick and Sturdy sounds great
Aaaaaawww, Yiieeeaah!
😎
I'm still saving up for that Iceman but Thomann doesn't have easy monthly payments on this guitar which would have put this guitar in my hands sooner lol \m/
You'll get there!! Make sure to use my affiliate links for it 😎😎
Good freind to give you those pickups...and i noticed you were using a thick fancy pick in the intro😅...❤great work
Yessir, these picks are all I use now.
You didn’t need to do anything to that guitar to make it chug! Why waste your time and money replacing pickups that will hardly change the way it sounds with so much distortion anyway? 🥴
Let me guess, you watched one Glenn Fricker video
“Watch me make the 800 dollar guitar a sponsor sent me not suck ass” used mij Ibanez ftw once again, at that point just get a used prestige and be done with it
What's wrong with you lmao
What were both of those unique picks??
Hufschmid Picks! Made an entire video on them.
what r those picks my bro
Don't like Kiss? Damn... this is so sad. :(
Fuckin tragic... KISS Army!!
Its sad that it takes so much for young people to achieve a "tone" It really comes from your hand, in any way.
Shut up lmao
The pot value thing is indeed true!
People like to call me crazy for disliking 250K on everything and removing tone knobs on guitars with single coils, but I always tell them if I wanted mellow tones I'd go with humbuckers :D
Also, some think 1meg pots are some kind of a treble booster. They don't actually add anything to the signal, the rest just take from it XD
The exception is Lace because that's what they recommend but I look at it like how active pickups need 25K pots :D
Do much do one of those weigh?
I get that it is a choice for your musical taste but the original Super 80 pickups are _so_ good.
They definitely are, they just lacked the low end I wanted. But somebody bought them on Reverb to install them in a guitar, so they'll still be appreciated. 😎😎
Lace Alumitone pickups are awesome! I put a Deathbucker in the bridge of a superstrat with the singles in the other positions and it rocked! Totally Strat-like neck and pos.IV, total distortion bridge. Absolutely noiseless too.
I bought a Sam Totman Iceman used with changed pickups, Railhammers. Thinking of putting a pair of Lollar dBs in it, or in Ibanez S520EX with SD Pearly Gates’. Cant decide which axe will benefit more.
If you want to sell the original pickups let me know.
Already did hahah they sold within ten minutes
There are a few cheap Chinese brands on Amazon that make topload, microtuner stopbars for those types of bridges. Yes, microtuners, like on a Floyd Rose. Similar top load mechanism, too. I have one on my Les Paul. I love it. Especially with locking tuners, it is a great boon. Comes in nickel, chrome, gold, and black. I think it comes in rainbow anodized, too, if that's your thing.
Whazamadhadder! Whew!
You sir, are a madman
I like the fried banana chip pick you're using ❤
Or you could use a reamer and not run the risk of chipping away the finish on the face.
The small pots are in metric measures, the bigger ones in imperial. If you got an asian made guitar, 99/100 times they come with metric pots. Just so you know and save your guitars from drilling
❤❤❤❤🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I'm more impressed with this guy's playing. Those were some crispy demo riffs
The Faded Line!
According to Paul Stanley, he does not play Iceman guitars. The PS series have ebony fingerboards 🤯
Yeah, sometimes Paul's a dork like that 😂
how thick are those picks though
Around 12mm
I just bought a PS120 Iceperson about a week ago. I was unsure about the look, but its a beast. I put the same Gotoh locking tuners on.
Youre getting closer to the Fredrik thordendal model by the Can even get it from thomann now
Does Glenn know you changed the pickups?!
🎸🤘!!!
🎧🌳🌳🔥🔥🚬💨💨
Your thick picks trigger me hard. Nice guitar and tones!
The Faded Line is one of LOG's most underrated songs!!
You can also put masking tape over the hole before drilling to further prevent finish cracking, and run the drill in reverse.
Now that’s a fucking solid demo track
Bought a set of Lace Alumitone Pickups (Deathbucker bridge and humbucker neck) for my 7 string and I’m so excited I can’t wait til I get the money to get them installed! They really are a unique pickup set and it’s weird there aren’t a lot of people talking about them.
I say don't wait until you can pay someone, invest a fraction of that money into a soldering iron and go for it! It really isn't that difficult.
That being said, I claim no responsibility if you go for it and screw up 🤣
I just love orange fretboards.
Kiss sucks. Thanks for acknowledging. Slay it mate.
A 50 year career with over 100 million albums sold worldwide... you may not like them, but, that doesn't describe a band that sucks.
@@SaberToothGary true. They sucked and were popular. In my opinion*.
@@kkupsky6321 - Haha, have a great day, man!
@@SaberToothGary Paul Gilbert misses you. Don’t let Paul and his cats down. Kiss sucks.
