- The Scene and The Scene Dancers were one of the top local TV shows in Detroit during 1983. This is the long version of this song I.O.U. and The Scene dancers keep it going until At around (5:44), when Al and Mark really get into their new dance called The German Smurf and close it out.

Are you ready to throw down? Yes we are😂
Back when people knew how to have fun
Good times! Now they're mom, dad, aunties, uncles, grandma, grandpa, some are probably retired or dead.
Someone's great grandma is dancing in this video, or great grandpa. Super cool 😎
And we really used to dress like this for the party. 😊 Damn I miss those days!
Nat Morris, you were one of my biggest heroes. From the ages of 12-15, I fell in love all over again every day at 6 o'clock (time to rock). Those great dancers saw me through puberty.
Thanks for sharing. It's nice to see all the woman here are natural no one wearing a wig .
Go back a decade or two though. They were wearing wigs then. It's fashion just like clothing. But hey I was born in '82 I'm just going by pics I saw of the 60s/70s.
???
Man this brings me back. I grew up in Windsor and The Scene was the highlight of our evening! Dancing away in our livingroom. The one time me and my siblings actually got along! 🤣
I was 14yrs old when this took place. All these people in there late 50's to 60's. In 2022.This my first time in Nov.9,2022 watching this.If it wasn't for TH-cam I would of never saw this.im 53yrd old now.
I watched this as a small kids with my older cousins! I am 50 years old now!🤩
So the dancers are gen-xers?
@@Kamala_b Yes this is Generation X.
Why can't we go back to those days? Everyone got along. No fighting ever.
Those was the days
That's a romanticized version of the 80's! LOL! People were indeed fighting. The YBI was a force in the D. Beirut was happening over seas. There was fighting.
Detroit was totally all cumbaya in the 80s & and 90s.
Get pulled over by a cop- just challenge them to a dance off over who gets the ticket..
People out there robbing others would ask the victim to a dance off for ownership of the victims belongings.
Even gangs got into the dance off scene. Instead of seeking violent revenge for their dead homeboy- they just challenge the other to a dance off.
I feel like that too ❤
Naw there was a lot of fighting in those days. There was no social media.
It's like the electro version of Soul Train. Super cool 😎
Glad you like it!
Love this. John Rocca; AEIOU! that was the jam!!! Detroit has changed so much since those days. Party people!! The German Smurf!!
I just told my wife about the jit, the German Smurf, and The School Craft.
Always had the best music!
Detroit before crack ripped it apart.
And violence too
It's better now
U mean During
@@oholm09 nah. It was poppin then too
hahahaha!!!! I used to go dance on here all the time.... and I just found myself in THIS video!!!!🤣😂🤣😄🥰 still love you Nat Morris!!!!
It has to be said.... "Well it's 6 o'clock and it's time to rock and we rock nonstop till 7o'ckock
We don't stop, we don't stop..." Oh yea I STILL remember!!! One of the most fun times of my life for sure! Thank you Nat Morris for this forever memory!!!
Where you at?
🙇♂⭐⭐😘 Thanks and peace
I forgot about the German Smurf. I just got up to see if I could still do it. Yep, can still bounce with it lol
I used to love watching this show on ch. 62! I wanted to be on the show so bad. But I was a 13-year-old white girl from Harper Woods who couldn’t dance!
I feel you I was 12 in1983 I lived in Detroit I loved this show watched all the time I could dance and I learned alot of dances off this show I was just too young too be on it I sure do miss it😢
Aww, yeah! Throw down indeed! 80's forever--Class of '85 here!
The open and close dance line. Classic. Loved it back then. Better than Soul Train.
Nat, I tell you.
I DJ nightclubs out here in Florida. The energy on the show (especially between 78-83) is what I absolutely long for these days - or something close to it . thank you again for these clips!
the energy is what we called the geek, thus captain geek, lol
@@NatMorrisChannel hahah. it's all making sense now!🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
@@NatMorrisChannel the swag is unmatched 👌
can't get any more 80's with this song. 👍
And the dancing 😂
Detroit doing The Smurf!!! 1983 Love This!!!
There was the Smurf and the German Smurf
.
@@aaronlattimore9409 ❤️👍👌
I think I saw Moses. He was definitely a regular on here. From 6-7pm I was glued to my TV standing up in my bed popping and shaking 😅😅😅. What a time to be alive❤
As a fellow Detroiter, thank you for sharing these videos and thank you for not putting a huge watermark all over the footage. You, sir, are a true legend!
Respect to the Great Nat Morris ✊🏿
I love that joint, I see where my son was listening to Baby Tron I love the new and old school song 💖💖💖💯💯💯 :)
This is one of my favorite songs and I’m ashamed of myself for never hearing this version until now!
those dub versions were GOLD, man. something that I wish the short attention spans of this day and age would allow.
Now you’ll never see a dance floor like this lol 😢
I wish
0:20! "Are you ready to throw down!?
"YES WE ARE!"
That was the party starter anthem! #IWasThere! 😃🎶💖
A show like this couldn't exist nowadays cuz kids dont hardly dance no more
LOVE LOVE LOVE this song/mix! We had the jams!
Hopefully in the future, more from those Disco,Funk years of 1978 -1982 ,it would be great to see those dancers as well
Damn this song is still amazing to this day. AEIOU
This just took me back to Jr High😂😊
Where we really live. I grew up on this the sister wore there own hair
I was on the scene in the 1985 right before it went off the air looking for the show i I was on.
There are a of 1985 shows that have not been digitized. We are going through the videos to add the year that clip was done so dancers and fans have that information.
That's Me in the morning he 3rd open and spread! The tall good looking one hahaha
The Scene was the blue print for parties. The DJ had be live, and everyone was on the floor, no music breaks because of bad song selections.
If Nat Morris and WGPR was trying to be Creative, they could have produced "The Scene" and "The New Dance Show" to expand the popularity perhaps across the nation. Too Bad they didn't think about it back then.
I read somewhere that he tried to syndicate it but it didn’t work out.
@@firefly48342 At that era, they were up against two dance show entities; Soul Train, and American Band Stand, plus back then Television Production Studios were not in tune with making production and/or sundicate deals with smaller television stations.
Anyone remember a dancer named Napoleon who was a scene dancer in the 80s? ❤
Learn you vowels boys and girls. A, E, AEIOU, U, U and sometimes Y.
I lOVED that song!
at 3:36 we called that dance in Rockford, Illinois the watergate...but in Milwaukee they changed it to the popeye
1:51 German Smurf
lolol....it is...where you from...we did that dance in milwaukee
This is around mid or late summer of 1983. Could even be fall of that same year. The first song was a huge hit in the L.A. area by August of that year. I don’t remember Reaganomics but it may have been released in mid summer 1983. That song described a dismal view of the economy and there was a reason Reagan was referred to as Raygun. Many working class felt he killed many jobs with his policies. The early 80s was not so good for many people but a heck of a lot better than today.
It's totally different vibe
Does anybody know of any clubs that still have this vibe and play this music today? In USA? Anywhere? I swear I’ll even fly there 😅
I wish!
Come to the next Scene Reunion if and when we have one.
Some of those outfits were for the club, work, and church 😂.
Yassss 💯💯💯👍🏽🔥🔥🔥👑
Hopefully those available can do a reunion??
I would like it if you could please find my father Jimmie okira Hightower he performed on your show in the late seventies early my father has passed so that would be so special to me if you can find early eighties
I posted a reply and picture 5 months ago on the Community page.

Was there another dance show out of Detroit? I remember a guy wearing a cape & they did a line dance like on Soul Train
Yes, that show came after the Scene and is/was called The New Dance Show
This like SoulTrain.
What makes it like soul train and not American bandstand
this isnt 1983 , the song Aeiou an sometimes Y wasnt released until 1984, i will give this Video around 1988 -
the clip was labelled 1983 in our library. Check out Wikipedia here:

@@NatMorrisChannel Good Look
I'm sorry, there must be some kind mix up because this song was rockin over the airwaves in Summer of 1983! I remember that Summer very well and that song was apart of it!
@@jamesgeorge5276 its no biggie , it just depends on the Area where U Lived when it was Released , Remember , there was No Music Outlet in 1983 - 1984 like it is in 2022
@@1968-b3n 👍😊
Blame toubob etc
This is definitely 1983 because I see that Prince wasn't HUGE yet from the buttons on that guy's jacket at 3:24 even though the 1999 double album should have outsold thriller....
In the D, Prince came out in 1978-79. He didn't hit mass appeal crossover until 82-84. My girlfrend in 79 went to his concert here. Sexy Dancer, Soft n Wet came out in the 1970's
I dubb u by freez😊
We used to break dance and dance to this song in NY in a much different way from this kind of boring moves
We didn't want to dance with males, like you did in NYC. We preferred dancing with the females, and didn't want to carry torn cardboard pieces in order to spin on our heads. Plus the women were way better looking than girls in NYC. Two Miss USA winners from my high school won in 90 and 93.
@@VictoriaHarper-j6v What don't you get? I said we use to break dance and "Dance" to this song in NY in a much different way. I'm referring to other types of dancing besides break dance which you will never understand because you never lived in NY
