Few vehicles excite enthusiasts as much as the BMW M5. After a long build-up, the company's latest super sedan is here. The new M5 is the most powerful to ever wear the iconic badge. But it's also the heaviest M5 ever, thanks to its standard hybrid powertrain.
As expected, there's XM DNA under the hood - namely the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with a single electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission. Total system output is 717 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, slightly less than the XM badge. The engine alone makes 577 horsepower, and another 194 horsepower comes from the electric motor, identical to what you'll find in the XM. The hybrid battery is smaller, though, at 14.8 kWh.
