Both of them together create a really full spectrum of sound, i prefer the marshall but that fender splat holds a special place in my heart... together it's a very unique sound
I also prefer the Fender. The Marshall does cut through way more than the Fender, though. I would have loved to hear the Marshall volume adjusted down in order to balance out the amps.

I have run a similar set up with a fender tweed pro jnr ltd and my marshall sv20c, such a classic tone. Thanks for another wonderful vid Johan and best wishes from Australia.
Great video! I often wonder if something like this contributed to the magic tone Jimi had at Monterey. He was running 1 Marshall JTM45/100 stack and 2x Fender Dual Showmans "stacks". I've also noticed (and not talked about) that Jimi appears to have the channels jumped on his JTM, you can see it in the footage and some good photos from the show. He has 3 cables plugged, one to high input of both channels and the 3rd jumper running towards the Fenders... Figure you may save that idea for a future video! With your access to these amps maybe you can experiment and maybe this Fender+Marshall is part of the magic. Thanks for the great content Johan!
Nice… been playing though a 1974x for a fee years now and been considering getting a 57 tweed since I traded my Deluxe Reverb for a Bandmaster tweed clone! Great job Johan!

It's a great idea to combine 2 different amps at the same time, with 2 preamps and 2 power stages gives a lot of tone versatility. I've used sometimes 1x12 princeton and roland blues cube paired in parallel with a Y splitter pedal, and sound amazing stereo, unique tone. Thanks !
Sounds great Johan. Love hearing the similarities and the differences. I think I prefer the Marshall, but the Fender seems to fill in something missing when combined.
I happened to stumble across something similar with my two solid-state guitar amps. I finally put a Morley ABY switch at the end of my pedalboard and ran side A to an ancient Yamaha G100-212 Series II and side B to a twenty year old Crate XT65R (the Guitar Center version of the GT65R). The Yamaha is very Fender sounding and the Crate pretty Marshally (especially with modest gain setting and the treble turned down). Running either amp by itself sounds really good, putting them both on causes the sound field to widen dramatically and almost sounds like a slight delay exists between the two (despite no delay pedal on my pedal board). And it sounds incredible!
I first discovered this tonal combo when running two THD Univalves in stereo-one had a 6V6 and the other had an EL34. Overdriven Marshall and Fender tones really fill in each other’s gaps
Hi Johan! Thanks for this video! These two amps sound great together. That's really a good idea! I will try it myself by using my tweed Fender Deluxe 5E3 and my poor man's plexi which is my Traynor Guitar Mate Reverb YGM-3. Thanks and keep on rockin' Johan!
@@JohanSegeborn Hi Johan! Thanks for the reply. Yes Traynor amps are not bad at all. In the early '70s we did not have enough money to buy the Marshall 50 watt heads so we bought the locally Canadian made Traynor YBA-1A Mark II heads and they completely fulfilled our needs. The Mark II version sounded very close to a Marshall...You should try one sometimes! Cheers!
I like the both at the same time, as this becomes a modern tone. I sense a trend toward a demand for dual amp sounds but we are limited to modelers. Egads. Bonuses are always a party....
Now i understand why some say that the Les Paul should sound like a "Telecaster on steroids", while with the Tweed (and any other Fender, Supro, Ampeg, and so on), it really sounds like a humbucker equiped guitar, with the Plexi sounds like a single coil guitar.
Wonderful mix of amp tones! I think I preferred the AKG over the Neumann on the acoustic. It sounds most like the acoustic sound I have in my head. The Neumann had a bit too much bass and some higher frequencies that my ear didn't prefer. Thanks for another excellent video!!!
Hi, Johan! I think, the combination is the most rich sound. But Marshall is much stronger by itself. Interesting about the bass: to see you recording it. Have a great weekend! Ziggy
Great video as usual. Maybe some of the room is coming from the crosstalk between the two mikes also. In can be heard pretty loud when playing the two alone
Just listening on phone speaker but 451 sounded amazing on acoustic, and km84 on overheads… Heh it’s funny I don’t really like that fender tone on its own but when it’s beefing up the Marshall wow that’s some sound!! Ok now I need to listen on my stereo 🤣 great sounds and great playing as always!!!
The combined sound of the amps was great, more is more! I expected something like a few good pedals do, where you twist a knob and go from British (Marshallesque) to American sound (tighter bass, sometimes tamed highs), but it was truly different and fuller sounding. I liked the bonus, too! Mics are inverted speakers, haha, they can be another rabbit hole. With the acoustic guitar either par satisfied my ears, but with the drums I felt the Neumann were nicer overall. AKG staff moved on to either Lewitt or Austrian Audio, they definitely have the pedigree.
Killer setup. Sounds fantastic. Those amps almost beg to be paired up. I didn't notice much difference on the drum mics but the Acoustic I preferred the AKG somewhat more.
The first and third amps I ever built. They sound beautiful together. I'll have to give this a try. Anyone playing a les paul through a 5e3 should have a look at Dumble's mods for one! A cast improvement for humbucker players, IMHO !
I do this with my sv20 in stereo with the effects loop. After effects loop send, the first return goes to the power amp and powers my Gold in an open cab, and I use the second/stereo out to a Pedal Baby 100 and a Redback in a closed cab. Works great for solo boosts in the effects loop.
Hi Johan!! Massive fan. I was wondering if you could do a speaker comparison involving the WGS Invader 50? I went through your greenback shoot out and I felt the Green Beret was pretty close, and the Invader even better still. More modern, hi-fi sounding but a LOT of the same character to a classic Greenback, and was wondering if you would be so kind as to do a recording shoot out between your favorite GB type speakers alongside that one, as I know you enjoy the Webers as well! On the topic of Webers, would you be able to compare the Thames and FC-12 to your Crescendo and Purpleback Fanes? Maybe even order a Rawson Starfinder and a Reeves Custom Purple or the Hi Tone C? Sorry for asking so much, but I can only think of one man for the job haha! Thank you and keep up the good fight!

Great sounding guitar! And very good recording. I had to turn my head, because I thought that Segeborn was in the room. The acoustic guitar is just in fromt of me. Btw, when can we see a Segeborn hi-fi-channel?
I like the bonus section and preferred the sound of the KM84 on the acoustic guitar - seemed more full. On drums overhead I preferred the C451C - had higher treble content/definition.

Thanks, yeah the mic placement especially is really influential. I usually put the mic about 5” out right outside the center pointing about 35 degree out
YES YES YES!! I haven't heard it yet... but this is more or less how I get my tone, recording or live (I use a Mesa rather then Marshal, and a more modern Fender, but... yer on target for skookum tone)
mild correction... latest recording was with an Epiphone Ensign, and a Mesa DC5 ... but live its the Fender super210 and Mesa DC5... sometimes a Sovtek Mig50... stage size depending.
The second I heard the combo I said "yes!". Love that sound, and it really did create a kind of space. As for the mics I preferred the c451. The Neumann was a touch warmer or darker or not capturing as many highs? But what do I know.
Don't like either of the amps alone, but combined they sound pretty great - it's a complex sound. I guess you could record the guitar direct straight to the interface, and then just go crazy experimenting with re-amping through different amps in different studio spaces. Great way to get some richer, more nuanced tones.
I had a bunch of isolation transformers, mic preamps, and panning pedals before I actually got any decent amp simulators. A couple things that I learnt from coming at it the hard way, ¹wet-dry-dry is a thing (mostly for the coupling effect that you have just demonstrated with the Marshall-Fender mix) and also, ²once you're running four or more amps in parallel, there's little need for distortion. and, once I got some IRLs that could output over 100 Watts, well... 🙈
been playing my 96 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and my 86 JCM800 2204 together for yrs now you can dial in any tone u need,, Im down to only using a delay and wah wah and my ABY pedal .. it is THE tone if u ask me
I think the quick breakup of a Marshall amp fits perfectly with the spongy attack of a Les Paul, and the slow breakup Fender amp fits perfectly with a quick attack Fender guitar. Unpopular opinion: Hendrix is one of my favorite guitarist, but his live tone could’ve been better if he ran his Strat into a Fender amp.
I like it, but I think I would di a high pass on the fender. probably a lot of low end in there you could lose. would be nice to here with some bass guitar included 🤘
New subscriber here. Great vids thanks. Question: would it have made any difference to the sound of each amps if you plugged the guitar into the fender and then daisy chain the Fender to the Marshall? Also I am curious if you swapped the 2 amp mics around -if the difference recorded from each amp would be noticeable. The sound of the two amps together is noticeably fantastic!
Thanks Chris! Welcome to the channel! It would indeed make significant difference to plug into the fender first since there is some signal loss in daisy chaining. And switching mics would have a significant influence too. The AKG is way too bright for the Marshall which sound harsh then. Cheers
@@JohanSegeborn thank you for replying Johan! I just bought a Tweed Deluxe 5e3 clone from a local Melbourne guy, Lucas Miles - who is an awesome amp tech and amp builder. And I have absolutely fallen in love with the deluxe tones. Amazing - so much for me to learn for a simple amp designed 70 or so years ago. Made the big move and put my late 70s SilverFace twin that was very well looked after and BlackFaced for sale + my Bad Cat Cougar 5 in order to pay for my new purchase. Not sure if this is kosher in YT world but here is a link to a vid of Brett Kingman demoing the Lucas Miles Fender 57 5e3 deluxe. It is such a beautiful sounding amp. Maybe all clones are as good - i don’t know - but IMO this amp has beautiful sound. th-cam.com/video/56I3ts5AUxQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ygkd8Y3fEPFj3aNV
Both amps sound good together, however, you couldn't really add ANOTHER rhythm guitar to the song mixed in that fashion. As to the mics, both were good, with the Neumann having a bit more bottom end. Now I couldn't read it properly, BUT do those AGKs say 'MADE IN AUSTRALIA' or 'MADE IN AUSTRIA'? Cheers Joh!
I think a Vox AC30 has a slower breakup than Marshall but still pretty firm. Orange OR120 is similar to Marshall but I think it’s more prominent in slightly lower mids why I experience the Marshall as more direct. That’s my gut feeling, there are so many factors that are coupled here.
No it actually just routes the signal on to the second amp. The high and low inputs of the Marshall are connected, it may pass some resistor but that’s all.
Both of them together create a really full spectrum of sound, i prefer the marshall but that fender splat holds a special place in my heart... together it's a very unique sound
Thanks!
i prefer the fender tone in this demo but would of thought it was actually the marshall tone .
I also prefer the Fender. The Marshall does cut through way more than the Fender, though. I would have loved to hear the Marshall volume adjusted down in order to balance out the amps.

Thanks, I combined 4 Marshall full stacks here th-cam.com/video/V5qZoR8E-TM/w-d-xo.html
I like it, but I think I would di a high pass on the fender. probably a lot of low end in there you could lose. would be nice to here with some bass guitar included 🤘
Yeah I agree, some of the fender low end would indeed be in the way of bass and kick
Hey Johan this seems very far fetched but could you possibly try to get a nirvana tone with 70s pulsonic greenback
I would put less marshall in the combined sound, it's a bit overbearing right now but just a little edge from it would go a long way
Yeah the combination sounds more Marshall than fender but I bet the opposite sounds cool too
Does the Marshall have a solid state rectifier and the Fender a tube rectifier? I wonder if that could explain the difference?
Turns out it's not that I don't like the sound of Les Pauls.. I don't like the sound through just one amp but two sounds really good.
Yes but how do I get a strat and an SG at the same time?
Both amps sound good together, however, you couldn't really add ANOTHER rhythm guitar to the song mixed in that fashion.
As to the mics, both were good, with the Neumann having a bit more bottom end.
Now I couldn't read it properly, BUT do those AGKs say 'MADE IN AUSTRALIA' or 'MADE IN AUSTRIA'?
Cheers Joh!
Thanks man, yeah this is for a power trio basically. It’s Austria I’m afraid. 😉Cheers
@@JohanSegeborn I thought so.
I didn't think AGKs were Aussie made!
(Unlike RODE!)
If Fender Tweed is slow and Marshall Plexi is fast, what are Vox and Orange amps considered?
I think a Vox AC30 has a slower breakup than Marshall but still pretty firm. Orange OR120 is similar to Marshall but I think it’s more prominent in slightly lower mids why I experience the Marshall as more direct. That’s my gut feeling, there are so many factors that are coupled here.
How them be combined?
Hi, you connect the low input on the Marshall to the high input on the fender.
@@JohanSegebornThanks for replying.
Your videos really inspire me a lot.
Sounds Stonesy
Thanks Edward!
Honky Tonk Johan
Cheers William! 😆
Why daisy chain them bro. That essentially is using the preamp
Of one amp onto another should have run them
Parallel with an aby box
No it actually just routes the signal on to the second amp. The high and low inputs of the Marshall are connected, it may pass some resistor but that’s all.
Duuuude….
