    Given the weight difference and likely alloy difference indicated by the strength of magnetic force, it would be interesting to compare the toe hang of the actual and fake clubs.

  • @LogosDulos

    I also noticed that the Neck on the real putter is kind is a squared angle, but the fake one is more rounded.

  • @MissDaisyTheRacoon
    @MissDaisyTheRacoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The quickest and eaiset way to tell is the neck of the putter. Fake scotty's are rounded and un-even. Real scotty's are squat sharp and circmetircal.
    If they have the neck right, then you go to the mill lines on the back of the putter. Just above the cherry bomb dots. |ooo| < those lines on the side of the dots should go all the way up to the top line.

    Currently looking at my FB MP Studio Style 2.5 I purchased and all signs point to it be real. From the properly place sticker, the magnet test, and putter's color difference between the SS face insert and putter head.

    The turning point on the neck seems to be different too (eBay one is "rounded", where the original has a more pronounced angle like the newer Scotty models)

    If you are still around and have the clubs, could you measure the width of the inlay and the height of the Scotty Cameron letters on the bottom?

      The insert is 2.5” X 0.75”. The Scotty Cameron “S” and “C” letters on the bottom are 3/16”…the other letters are slightly smaller…about 11/64”

    Ill be completely honest. Without holding them in my hand I think the fake looks to be the higher quality and honestly the better looking club than the original. I obviously don’t condone intellectual property theft, and I think those responsible should be in jail but it makes you think that if the guy who made this, had some original designs, he would be extremely successful as a putter maker.

      It would be off feeling. Do you think fakes would go through the trouble of making sure weights and angles were precise? The metal feel when hitting golf ball would be off cuz of different metals used. Once u hit a real Cameron the solid precise feel won’t be matched

    curious how you got a Teryllium putter from Dicks Sports do you have a contact or did you just get lucky and walk in and find one? I am interested in picking up another scotty I have the 1997 Model Newport II that Tiger made famous winning the 98 Masters with. I need another but dont' want to buy a fake

    • @fredarther
      @fredarther ปีที่แล้ว

      I walked into Dicks and they had the authentic club there, which someone had traded in. I bought it for my son, but really liked the look and feel, so I found the pristine club on eBay that turned out to be fake. Since eBay guarantees a refund if someone sells you a fake (which I didn’t need since the seller refunded me) I bought another one that the owner bought from a country club near his home. I actually cplooked into his story and it seem to check out. I let him know that I was sending it to Scotty Cameron for authentication, which you may want to consider as well.

    • @BuffaloNickel9

      Well you're missing out and you apparently have no idea what to look for!
      Amazon especially rarely sells anything fake if you choose to buy from Amazon Prime AND Amazon as the SELLER and fulfiller... I've bought several hundreds of expensive items off Amazon never once gotten a fake.
      everything from $60 cologne to several thousand dollars Seiko watches....
      Looks like you need to learn how to shop properly.. read reviews don't ever trust reviews unless they say verified purchase and there are at least several dozen to several hundreds of five star reviews...
      Pretty much every legit company sells their merchandise and products on Amazon already...
      Just because you've been burned is on you plus the return policy on Amazon is 100% no questions asked..
      You must be buying from some sketchy third parties or not paying close enough attention..

    • @BuffaloNickel9
      @BuffaloNickel9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I want to know how he found one of those at Dick's also!!
      Unless it was a trade-in, these things haven't been made in ages

    • @fredarther
      @fredarther ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As @jackman speculated below, the Dick’s putter was a trade in.
      Also, the seller of the fake putter from eBay gave me a refund. If they hadn’t, eBay informed me that they cover the cost of any counterfeit items.
      I ended up giving the legit Dick’s putter to my son and bought a brand new one from eBay. I looked up the seller and checked out the Country Club where he said he bought it from. I’m also sending it out to Scotty Cameron in California for verification since it’s pristine and still wrapped in plastic. I don’t plan to use it.

    • @practicalmatters8587

      The seller was from Miami. He claimed he didn’t know it was fake when he bought it...who knows. I contacted eBay and the seller refunded my money. I later learned that because it was a fake, that I didn’t legally have to send it back. If I had known that earlier, I may have kept it so he doesn’t resell under a different name.

      It cost around $700. Shortly after this video was made, the seller refunded my money and said that they had no idea (when they bought it) that is was a fake. If they had refused to refund my money, eBay guaranteed that they would cover the cost as part of their policy. I bought another brand new putter, which I am having authenticated by the Scotty Cameron shop in California. They charge $75 for this service.

    Hi, how did you manage to buy a teryllium putter at dick’s sporting goods. Do they sell them anymore?

    • @practicalmatters8587
      @practicalmatters8587  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually bought a used Teryllium from Dick’s. They work with SC reps and verified its authenticity.
      You will most likely have to buy a Teryllium putter on the aftermarket, such as eBay.
      eBay will refund money for counterfeit items, but still a frustrating experience. In my case, the seller refunded my money and claimed he was unaware that the putter was counterfeit when he bought it.
      I recently bought another one from eBay that I plan to send to SC to have authenticated. They charge $75.
      Hope this helps!

      @@ajtz994 I’ve been watching these pretty closely on eBay over the last few months. After my unfortunate experience buying a counterfeit (the seller refunded my money btw...if he hadn’t, I still had a refund guaranteed from eBay), there are a few things I would advise.
      - Don’t buy a putter coming from Japan...those are the putters listed at the highest prices and there’s no need to take the risk on returns.
      - Filter for “new” putters only and look for the ones with the grip still wrapped and with the clear plastic inserts on the bottom and face
      - If you have any reservations, consider having it authenticated right away at the Scotty Cameron custom shop for $75. Don’t be afraid to let the seller know that this is something you plan to do. If they want to back out, that’s fine.
      Lastly, on price... I’ve watched over a dozen putters sell over the past two months. I’ve categorized below based on what I’ve seen for a BRAND NEW putter,

    Only way to be sure is to send it to Scotty and have them verify. If it is fake is is pretty good one. Are you sure it isn't just a different era T22. Older ones had different specs than the new ones. The originals didn't even have milling on the face insert.

      @practicalmatters8587  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your response. Never hurts to send to SC for verification, but this was definitely a fake...so easy call to save that $75. I spoke with retailers at Dick’s and a local golf shop. There are so many anomalies that it wasn’t even close. You can go through the video, but for example, Scotty Cameron never used two different size inserts. Glad I was able to get my money back.

    • @DeanHerback
      @DeanHerback 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@practicalmatters8587 You got all your money back but didn't send back the putter? That's a sweet loophole for anyone who wants to get a free fake from eBay, since I bet that fake putter works 99.9% as well as the real one on the green and no one could visually know the difference. Most all sports equipment is already made in China so whoever made that fake has the capability to make the real one, but they cut a few corners to sell it for 1/4 to 1/2 of the retail price with little if any compromise on performance.

    • @practicalmatters8587
      @practicalmatters8587  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DeanHerback Thanks for your comment. I actually did send the putter back. The seller was working through eBay’s process to refund my money, so I didn’t want to take any chances. Also, he wasn’t selling this as a discounted fake...he was selling it at a current market premium over the original price.
      It’s SC that paid for the R&D and brand development. The cost to simply copy is significantly less...and illegal of course.
