What about vice versa? Can I use the hdd drive that I removed and clone again the ssd without removing any screw? What I mean is that the one Im cloning is the external to my internal ssd, is there an option in the mini partition tool to clone the external? I mean the acronis.

Just cloned my 2011 HDD (HP laptop) to a Samsung EVO 860 500GB SSD. Used software from VisionTek, easy peasy, flawless process. Went from a 2 1/2 min boot up to a 15 sec boot. Loved my process......will do it again on other PC's

Hi. I used the above method. On completion of cloning, the drive booted the first time. But it did not booth the second time. It gave an error message. Then I booted using the Acronis Recovery USB (which I had used to clone) and repaired the SSD. It is working now. Thanks a lot for your video. It helped in successful installation of SSD.

Good video, but if you have a Samsung SSD then use their cloning software, it comes free with every SSD and it's by far the easiest & fastest to use. 1 click. I only buy Samsung SSD's because of it.

I was going to say this. Samsung Data Migration cloning tool is the best I've used, and it's free to use on Samsung SSDs. The 860 EVO 250GB is under $60 US and I just bought 2 500GB SSDs for $72.99 US each on Newegg. Their "magician" software isn't good for much except upgrading firmware, but the 860s I've installed in the last month all had a new firmware available. That being said, if Samsung can include easy to use cloning software, they're worth a couple of extra bucks. Plus their reliability is excellent, at least in my experience.

    • @badpuppy3
      @badpuppy3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Samsung's Data Migration tool only allows you to clone the drive with your OS Installed on it unfortunately and you are unable to change it. So if you're looking to clone any of your secondary storage drives, it won't work.

Without the OS on the HDD, used for data only, the life 'should' be extended. I quoted should just in case there's SMART errors, such a damaged sectors. If only one, that's OK, yet when there's clusters of sectors bad, forget it, get another drive, these are low cost with Newegg promos. Personally, I prefer to purchase legacy WD RE4's which are new pulls from servers & yes these can be found on eBay. Ask before buying & make sure Feedback (& lots of it) are 99.5% or higher.
Should the drive arrive with thousands of hours of usage, eBay has your back covered, just make sure to read description & save the messages of any questions asked. I've never had an issue with purchasing this way & own over a dozen RE4's, having a 64MB cache, are faster than the same gen (SATA-2) Caviar Black.
My best build though, has a 2TB WD Gold (the RE4 replacement), faster, 2x the cache. writes are almost as fast as my first SSD, a 128GB Crucial m4 from 2012. While these were SATA-3 SSD's, reads are often double write speed. I recommend the WD Gold to anyone looking for a fast, reliable HDD with a 5 year warranty, designed for 550TB/year writes. A home or small business user will never hit that limit, the cool thing is it's cost is just barely more than a WD Black. When I purchased my pair of 2TB's on promo at $124.99 each, actually was $10 less vs the Black, with 2x the cache (128MB).
At any rate, if your HDD is healthy, it'll likely last longer doing duty as a data drive vs having to carry the full load.;-)

Very good Video. Have two questions please.
    1) Bought new DELL Desktop Mini Tower 3891 Inspriron with Intel i5 10400. Has WINS10 PRE installed on a small 256G SSD. I bought/installed new Ram Sticks(2x16G) and 2T M.2 SSD.
1a) Did I do wrong in taking out the PRE installed 256G SSD because I am going to CLONE my 3T SATA Folders/Files which measures a total of 429G, which has WINS10 ALREADY on it. Should I LEAVE 256G SSD in, setup Computer/Update THEN take it out, then put new 2T SSD in..... then Clone??? I will have my 3T SATA on USB EHD to CLONE to 2T M,2 SSD. Need guidance. What would you do???
    2) Finally. switching out SSD the screw to secure the 2T M.2 SSD tightens good but I noticed a slight bend in the SSD so I backed it off. I don't want it to be TOO loose for reasons and come a "little" bit loose then my Computer go nuts. Any help THANKS.

Thanks for the detailed walk thru! I have plans toupgrade my 2011 desktop from its 7200rpm hdd to an SSD soon, but the yearly cost of Acronis does not make send for me. If they had a one time price that I could use over and over would be better. As was mentioned in a comment below I too will probably just use the software that comes with the SSD to move my data and the OS over.

Hi Brian. Thank you for making and posting this video. To test my understanding, ¿then, using said Acronis software, I can install/change over to an SSD drive from my existing mechanical drive? I have an older Vista PC (AMD Phenom 9500, 2.2 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HD). ¿Is it possible to make this speedier by moving the O/S to an SSD? ¿Will the Vista O/S' Defragmenter cause any issues with an SSD (make it slower over time)? (Asking, for I'd like to someday soon upgrade to a more modern system). Please forgive my ignorance and (likely) dumb questions. Thank you for making and posting this video. (I'll likely have more questions). Thank you Brian. God Bless. tonyd\.

if you got a PC just get Apricorn EZ-Gig and you are good, if you have a Mac just get Carbon Copy and you are even better, both are about $35 and you have the max to back up a bootable copy of you're hard drive if anything happens, if it dose then put the good copy on your hard drive and make another copy and your back where you started and everything is fixed, SSD's are faster but a regular hard drive is cheaper and good enough to keep a copy on to get your drive back

any need to prepare a separate bootable media and an usb data+power cable to connect the ssd. In case cloning is successful, and the old drive is disconnected, then it will automatically boot from the new ssd.

So I like most folks wanted to update from my HDD to SSD drive without being a guru. Bought a Samsung pcie ssd drive 500GB the original being 1 TB drive and this turned into a headache. I have acronis software on my system with backup drive so I figured this is really brain dead? Well the software threw a curve ball as it did not like the smaller drive to clone to from larger drive it threw up a window saying there may not be enough room for Boot up. The new drive is a Samsung so I used their Data Migration software with absolutely no problem. This software is a lot easier to use/user friendly. This may be something you might want to try although it may not work except with Samsung product. Thanks for the great channel on how to do it yourself. PS. I won't mentioned I started with Windows 95 to Windows 98 to Windows XP then Windows 7( IMO the best one) to Windows 10. All much like a puppy that refuses to be house trained.

Does this software work if we wanna clone from a mechanical to an other mechanical hard disk, or from a SSD to another SSD?

If the drive you are copying doesn't contain the OS and only contains Music, Documents, Videos, Downloads and Games, is it safe to just copy and paste to the SSD without the use of cloning software? As long as anything that would access those files is closed such as Steam?

Good video, until I clicked on the link for Acronis which comes up at £65.. thats 3 times as much as my SSD cost! I'm off to look for a free alternative drive cloner

You never enabled TRIM after booting the SSD. And pre-Windows 10 users also need to disable Disk Defragmenter scheduled tasks.

Thanks for this but how does it work if you are wanting to clone from an old Win 7 drive to a new Win 10 computer and want to keep Win 10?

  • @haydenborunda7617

So with my new pc that I just built, I used the hard drive from my old one to keep the storage but ever since I’ve had a pc using the same hard drive, both pc’s would constantly crash and for the longest time, I thought it was overheating. I’m assuming that if I were to move over data from my hard drive to my ssd, get rid of the hard drive and just stick with the ssd, that it will be the solution. Can anyone correct me if I’m wrong?

This is fine if your source data is less or equal to new SSD but most computers have big drives with lots of data. Any tricks to move only what you need, other than a weekend spent deleting steam games and other crap.

Well if you OS is on a 4TB drive and its pretty full, then its not going to help you cloning.

i don't compltely agree with you saying that SSD's are way faster than a harddrive i have recently installed a 250GB SSD with windows 10 build 1803 on it thinking that my pc (ryzen 5-2600 6-core 12 threads, paired with MSI B450 pro motherboard and 16GB of ram) would start up windows in the blink of an eye, in reality i noticed only an almost neglible speed gain in comparison to my WD green 1TB harddrive when starting windows, the SSD was rated at SATA 3,0 so 6GB/s transfer speed, but the difference was marginal so i continued to use my harddrive as my boot disk

My HDD used to preform fine on startup withing 5 seconds i would be in with discord and steam open but it's not the same anymore. Any tips?

I just got a Crucial 500mx ssd. I currently have a 1TB HDD with only 70gb of data. I'm using Acronis. when I try to clone to the ssd, i'm getting an error that the destination drive does not have enough room and to shrink the data. I tried leaving off the HP recovery portion of the drive but still didn't work. I'm not understanding how 70gb can't be cloned to a 500gb drive.
