@0:41 "Then why did you bring it up? That don't make no sense" is the correct response when people take a detour from the conversation with no resolution. Also Courtney B Vance and Niecy Nash? I'm in!
When she said I laughed Cuz am like yup, that's pretty much almost every black family 😂😂😂. Bring up someone's business then backtrack out of being bombarded with further details by saying "they don't keep up with ppl's business like that" 😂
I like how the basic story (parent wants child to inherit family business, but child has other passion) is not really "original" , but the way they are executing it, from the trailer at least, is making it feel kinda fresh.
@@tiffanypollard8621 not about their skin, it's about different culture, different perspective and the way people treat you different because of your appearance.
I liked this movie. Not necessarily because it was that interesting, it's quite boring and simple, but that's just it; it's simple and very realistic. It's a movie with black leads that doesn't make their blackness the main focus of the movie, there are no overbearing stereotypes, no painting of any demographic in a poor light. The acting was good and very natural, at times it was almost like watching regular people vlog their lives. I hope Netflix gives us more normal black movies like this.
Yes, as Asian in a country where basically black people are represented as either funny or poor or violent, this kind of movie is really needed. Will be recommending it to my friends.
@Tewodros_II Holmes RIGHT?? I kept waiting for that moment to pop up. But when he went to class and there was a brother teaching one of them, I was like, "Oh, snap... OKAY!!!"
YES! Just yes. I'm here for it. A dream that doesn't involve acting, music or dancing? Yep. I applaud Netflix for creating such a diverse collection of content. Really anyone can create on that platform and the quality is great. I love it and love to see more of it!
Just finished watching it. Amazing acting and the story is so relatable. I give it a 10/10 coz the storytelling is different from the rest of the Netflix films. Also I would recommend it to any young person trying to figure out what they were born to do and are feeling stuck.
I tuned in expecting a generic comedy, but this movie exceeded my expectations at every turn. Everytime I thought it was about to plunge into those typical tropes I would get checked. This is by far the best movie I've seen on Netflix in a while. The ending gives me chills.
loved this film!! we NEED more positive black films with substance. i’m not an avid wine drinker, but the film made me want to explore and bring out my inner wine snob.
This movie wasnt over the top, it didnt have any crazy story arch or plot twist. It was just shockingly genuine, and true to life's cruel comedic nature. That's what makes it a good watch.
Niecy was fine but Courtney B Vance who played the dad stole the show. " White folks in Memphis ain't seeing that. The boy looks like he steals cars in Wakanda.."
One of the reasons I liked this movie is I was in it. It was great having the cast and crew come to Memphis to film this movie and everyone was super nice and friendly. I don't know a thing about wine, its origins, or how you can tell one brand from another. This movie was really about finding your own niche, following your passion, and not letting family dictate what happens in your life. There was comedy, drama, tears, and much more. Overall, it was about family. It was nice seeing a Black family being successful, having their own money, and still holding firm to their roots and their values. Great job guys.
This was a really nice movie. I had never seen the star Mamoudou Athie but he is someone to watch out for. Denzel and Samuel don't need to get all the roles.
What a wholesome movie. Loved the support he received from his friends and family to pursue his dream minus the dad lol but the ending was perfect and very realistic 👏🏾
Now, THIS MOVIE is something that we needed! No played-out tropes, no remakes of white, mainstream movies, no cliche references and I was actually inspired and learned something. I was engaged the entire time and in the in I found myself really wanting this guy to WIN no matter what! It was very refreshing to see a film with a predominantly black cast, but the story wasn’t necessarily about the black experience. In fact, this could have been anyone’s story in any family’s dynamic, yet this family just HAPPENS to be black. I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!!!
This movie is underrated. The basis is generic & simple but the execution is nearly flawless. I love the music too. And the ending is not flashy but somewhat refreshing coz that's how real life goes.
Just watched this movie, loved it, so inspiring and motivating... I was not sure whether the children were missed casted due their physical maturity but realised it was actually refreshing to find an aspiring young man at a mature age rather the typical high school coming of age movie, fulfilling their dreams, sometimes it takes a minute to figure it out.
PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! Courtney B. Vance and Niecy Nash never disappoint. It was a new spin on an old story. As a former resident of Memphis, the barbQ angle was an added bonus.
By far the best movie with all black cast I've seen in awhile. Simple plot line n yet complicated dynamics. Love the direction and definitely did not expect the ending. Hope to see more from the director.
Absolutely loved this film! Completely enjoyed it and loved the intimate moments. Beautifully shoot and felt the characters. :) Appreciate this story and the pacing.
This movie is HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE BEST EVER MADE. ACTORS INCREDIBLE AND PLAYED OFF EACH OTHER…nevermind how great the music is with it! PS-I stopped watching it after the mom got her news because that can be me. But I forced myself to finish. Thank God I did!!!
If you haven't seen the doco Somm before watching this, watch Somm first. It will bring so much more heart, life and richness to this movie by first gaining the insight the doco offers. The Master Sommelier exam. The hardest examination on the face of the planet. Mind blowing, incredible stuff...
So glad I watched this. Was looking for a movie with no excessive violence, guns, bombs. Just a deep, well acted film that I actually care about the characters. This is added to my favorites. ❤
@@deniseleoramadre7898 I got a chance to watch the film and I didn't see myself in any of the shots, but it's all good though the movie was good. The scenes that i would've been in were, the club scene and the funeral scene.
A film about a black man who wants to be a Sommelier, not a rapper, not a football player, not a drug dealer and no crime committed to follow said dreams - I like it, I like it a lot
As someone who's into wine...this was a pretty good movie. The journey to being a master somm however was a little underplayed. It didn't show the multiple levels. He would have started as level 1...then 2...up to "master". This takes YEARS. His friend who passed would not be a somm at a restaurant if he achieved a "master status. Your restaurant somms are lower level status. He'd be a high level wine consultant making well over six figures. I like that he failed his exam...that was the most realistic part. It has over a 90% fail rate.
I watched this movie. This is one of the best BLACK movies of all time. Comedy is on point, message is like a breath of fresh air much needed for our generation to expand our mind, our world and we can be so much more than what they show on TV. PLEASE, PLEASE watch this movie and SUPPORT more movies like this. WE ARE SO MUCH MORE. BIG UPS. NETFLIX
Nice movie. Mamoudou Athie is a very elegant actor im looking forward to see in future movies. I already saw him in Underwater. Niecy nash and Courtney b Vance did that. Shout out to the cute darkskin girlfriend. A must Watch
Black people - no police shootings - no gangsters - genuine laughs - good actors - i'm here for it!
And no slaves!!! 😆
Lol I'm surprised good for u guys
Exactly! Regular black people.
RIGHT!??!!! 🤗

That is so like my family's dinners. Have to watch this.

Or leaving the south side of whatever city to end up in another bigger city to become a singer 😂😂
The french rap in the background, it's gold !
The name of the track is phases cashees-the vague
Iacovos Ioannou thank you, I was wondering what it is and who they are.
So how much are betting that in the end he opens, the first BBQ wine restaurant?
All the brisket in the world
No lie that's a bomb combo. Red meat plus red wine!
Shiraz. .....
I’d be first in line for that tho
@Osito Kintsugi That's not what happens in the end at all.

Somalis being mentioned, for a good 15 seconds.... Also, general exposure to the familial black life. Netflix I am here for this!!!!!
