    I have the 2021 WR250F in Australia , our WR's come with the WIFI and programmable ECU stock ! I have fitted a YZ250FX exhaust and a Rekluse CX Radius auto clutch with a Left hand rear brake master cylinder.
    One more tip , add a 2021 YZ250F airbox boot = Rocketship !!!!

    I see a lot of comments regarding the weight of the bike and personally if a few pounds is a deal breaker then maybe this bike isn't for you. I haven't had any weight issues with this bike and find it change of pace from my YZ250 T2. My primary use for my 21 WR250F has been singletrack and it has been very controllable once I remapped the GYTR comp ECU. It is a great all around bike for both the track and trails.

    Cool info! De-tuned is correct from a test ride.. AND HEAVY! Holly crap , my wife’s 2022 Gas Gas EX 250 with a street legal kit and light tips the scale at 219 pounds (real pounds). It rips! Has multiple tune modes with traction control. I think Yamaha is still a few years behind but making strides. The Yam is crazy heavy however. This review helped us make a better selection, so thanks for the time to make this review!! .

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful. The best bike in the world is the bike that you have. Yamaha does have some pro. And there is a path to making it a much more capable bike. But the KTM brands are doing a better job out of the box.

    • @Fontainebleauify

      Gas gas ex250 way heavier than 219. Fill the tank and out it on a a scale.. probably 237 plus... yz250fx 245

    • @parkcitymacs
      @parkcitymacs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fontainebleauify Real meaning KTM measures the bikes accurately opposed the the Japanese machines, from owning a bazillion race bikes. I measured empty fluids on a scale. Gas is all the same and all the factories reference empty. The reference was for the EX modeling being ightweight, and giving the option so the user can install superior aftermarket LED street legal options versus the bulky heavy KTM DOT systems, or worse yet the heavy Japanese lighting systems. But now I have acutally had a little time on the WR250F, and despite the motor, the bike does feel very heavy. Between a KTM/GasGas/Husky 350F and 450F. If fact, when you cut the motor, the bike really feels like a 450F. For the weight it works against the great motor. Really noticed it in sandy stuff.

    The WR is a Enduro Race bike, Yamaha's Trail bike line is the TTR.

    • @tim9284
      @tim9284 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The WR is not their race bike and the TTR is not their trail bike.
      The WR is their enduro bike .
      The FX is their race bike
      The ttr is their "learner" bike.... which could be called a trail bike I presume, but most avid grownups who trail ride will graduate to a wr.
      Race bike is a weird term, because most of us dont race, we ride. Taken a little to literal.

    • @tim9284
      @tim9284 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless we can agree that Yamaha has no "enthusiast trail bike" and we are all forced to ride these jerky and overpowered Yamaha's on single track if we want to stay team blue. In that case I would agree with you, and I accidentally attempted to make a WR a tight single track trail bike a time or two.

    Gytr ecu and removing the airbox and exhaust restriction makes a huge difference on this bike. Add the ccu and using the power tuner app will tame the throttle or make it as aggressive as needed.

      Bingo! Anyone watching this review, interested in the bike should come over to ThumperTalk forums. Theres a lot of information on the bike. Note that the bike specs vary between markets too. ECU and CCU upgrades pretty much made this an FX with a head/tail light and softer suspension. Difference will be the FX will have the MX pipe without a spark arrestor and be louder.

    Thank you for doing this review. This is one of the motorcycles I'm very interested in. You did mention some challenges in tighter, technical terrain.... What changes would you recommend in these conditions outside of a Rekluse (if I didn't want to go there...)? Do you think a remap of the ECU or a Vortex would make a significant difference? Also, do you think a gearing change is worth doing for tighter more technical trails? If so, what would you do? It would be interesting to see you and/or a couple of riders compare lap times at a motocross track on this (WR 250F) versus the YZ250F motocross bike. I'm pretty sure the motocrosser would be quicker, but would be interested to see HOW much faster in seconds per lap. I ride trails 85% of the time, track the remainder. The other bike I'm looking at is the 250FX...... Really appreciate the content. Looking forward to your next one.

    • @UPSHIFT_ONLINE
      @UPSHIFT_ONLINE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The YZ would stomp the WR. It wouldn't even be close. The WR has a lot of what the YZ has as a foundation, but the motor package is way way off the mark.
      The suspension is the first thing we are going to do. We are having Race Tech re-valve and re-spring the forks and shock to make them more plush and progressive. Of course we will do the airbox and gut the exhaust. From there we will play around with some gearing changes, a Rekluse clutch and possibly a Yoshimura exhaust to find the best combination for us. Oh... and the ECU will also be a part of that testing.

    • @adler819

      If you end up buying this bike. I highly recommend doing the competition ecu right away. It takes care of stalling issues and unleashes so much power. Especially on the low end. This allows you to “uncork” the bike. Taking restrictions out of air box and exhaust. Also comes with shorter throttle stop screw.
      Was amazed first time I rode mine after doing this.

      Yamaha is rated first for reliability.
      However I’d say Honda dirtbikes tie for first.
      Then Suzuki and Kawasaki tied for second / third.
      Anything else costs alot more and breaks a lot more. KTM. Husqvarna, etc.
      Even at 300 pounds a 250f will be enough power. It’s different than an atf. Bikes weigh less. Geared different.
      I weighed 274 and am down to 232. Still losing.
      Even if I was 274 I’d consider a 250f. Not a two stroke.
      Desert riding flat or dunes? I wouldn’t necessarily get a MX dirtbike for that. Maybe even a dual sport. If you have experience - even a little - a Yamaha tenere 700 would even be amazing. Or a Honda crf300 dual sport.
      Then you’d be road legal.

      That's a great question and we don't know for certain. I would call your local (CA) dealer to be sure.

      It is not green sticker. It will be in 2025.

      @@kevinoneil6032 yes that's what i read too. For 2022, a model that would normally get a red sticker will only be eligible for title only and no sticker, which will confine the model to track/closed course competition only. You won't be able to ride at lake Silverwood, Ocotillo Wells, Dumont/Glamis, etc. Unless the model comes from the factory "green sticker" (which is a very small amount), you're stuck at the track. Models 2021 and older will be eligible for stickers and after 2025 will be able to ride year round.
      I had a deposit on a 2022 YZ250X but took it back because of this new law. So now I'm looking at used bikes. CA is bullying the power sports industry and the manufacturers are going to feel the pinch.

      I just realized you asked about both model years.
      I got lucky. I put a deposit on either an YZFX or WRF. I was second in line for both. The WR showed up first and the first in line couldn't qualify for financing. It's now in my garage and being ridden as much as possible.
      Have you tried asking your dealer to find a current model year and see if they can do a dealer trade?

      @@kevinoneil6032 yes I tried but they said no because they couldn't transfer non-CA bikes. I called DMV in Sacramento and they said I can't register out of state 2 stroke dirt bikes for a red sticker, so I'm s.o.l. I have no choice but to find a used one. Sucks because it took me years to save up money for a down payment and now I can't get the bike I want because of this stupid law.

    The bike is too heavy. If it were 15 lbs lighter, I'd consider it, but at a little over 250 lbs.....too much.

      We hear ya. It doesn't feel heavy at all when riding it. But it is not the lightest bike out there.
