  • The Hawker Hurricane shot down more German aircraft than all other allied planes combined in the Second World War's Battle of Britain. Find out how this one was restored from each individual nut and bolt over seven years to become the centrepiece of Calgary's Hangar Flight Museum: www.cbc.ca/1.5347097

The Hawker Hurricane fighter, the B-24 bomber. Planes that did the job while other planes got the glory.

What a machine. Just listening to Roald Dahl's "Going solo " audio book, where he describes how,in WW2, he had to fly it on his virgin solo flight for 4.5 hours, from Africa to Greece with only 1.5 hours worth of fuel with added " dodgy" extra fuel tanks strapped to the wings. Adrenaline rush of a lifetime, I'm guessing. What a life RD lived.

Seems I heard of a Canadian pilot...last name McKnight... that made quite a name for himself flying a Hurricane, but lost his life after being shot down in the English channel.. I believe a road in Calgary bears his name in honor of his WWII service. Anyone know the full story?

You are correct, he grew up in Calgary. I would type out a bunch about him but his story is available online if you search.

The supermarine had to go up against the German fighter squadrons the Hurricanes were routed with British radar to the bombers probably had a lot to do with it shooting down more German planes

When the Hurricanes went for the bombers, the 109 fighter protection wold dive down on them. The Hurri often mixed it with the fighters. I heard a Bob vet. Say 'It shot down as many 109s as the Spitfire, and a lot more bombers. It was a very good fighter.

looking at your air force, i'd say you need that plane to be in flying condition. while we're at it, why don't you fix canada's air force one because they are not fit to fly over us or eu.
