What a man. Had an amazing life which he deserved. The humour and strength of character was obvious. He is the type of person who makes their own luck.

A wonderful video. My father's brother F/O Aston Karl Aiken, after whom I was named, was instructor in 1943 at No.36 O.T.U at Greenwood Nova Scotia, and trained my uncle (Mosquito Navigator) and his pilot Canadian F/O William (Bill) Taylor and we have a marvellous group photo with everyone at Greenwood in his batch of trainees. Sadly my uncle and Taylor were killed in action on 8 August 1944. They are buried side by side in Connantre village cemetery east of Paris. We are a Jamaican family from the West Indies. Bill Taylor was from Saskatchewan. Thank you for sharing this video of Russ Bannock.

Russ Bannock is my Aunt Eva Cooke's brother, I believe. This is a fascinating video about him.

Thank you so much! In modern times we sometimes use real heroes for inspiration in stories. I am so glad you preserved the words of such a hero. As I am Canadian I find it important to remind our country of our own heroes. So much media comes from our southern neighbour we need to remind ourselves we ourselves are stalwart defenders, not just of the north but around the world. WW1, WW2, UN Peacekeeping. Thank you for your service.

Got to meet Russ Bannock during the restored Mosquito display (restored in NZ) at Heritage Warplane Museum in Hamilton, Ontario a couple of years ago. He seemed a very polite and humble gentleman. The day before the show they had an open house for past Mosquito Squadron members and their families. My dad who was in the RCAF 410 Squadron (Cougar Sqdn - Death in the Dark) had passed away by then. :(

Hi Susie Q, I know its a long shot but do you have any photos of 410 squadron ? My grandfather was S/L Robert Allen Kipp DFC DSO. My dad never met him as he died in an aircraft accident in Canada in 1949. I have a partial view photo of the Black Rufe which he flew but not a full shot. He was at one time the commanding officer of 410 squadron.

Sorry, my message got garbled, Russ Bannock was chief instructor of course, at Greenwood and trained my uncle. Sorry for the error.

His shirt is the RCAF tartan. 418 Squadron is supposed to be the training unit for the new Fixed Wing SAR aircraft.

Hi! There appears to be something wrong with the video. My computer has no problem watching various TH-cam videos, but this one simply won't load. I've tried it over several days. I'd love to watch it, as Russ Bannock was my uncle's C/O when he was shot down over Holland. Pat Lawless

If you Mozzie fans haven't read it, please read "Terror in the Starboard Seat" or "Mosquito Intruder" (same book) by Dave MacIntosh. Russ became his squadron leader (418) and Dave speaks very highly of him. My dad was a twin engine qualified RCAF Pilot/Navigator, but the war ended before he could fly Lancasters-John in Texas (USN-Desert Storm/Shield)

ROSS BOSS PRODUCTIONS I don’t mean to intrude but I’m a canadian and would very much so like to write to mr Bannock and thank him. As you said he’s your neighbour, if it’s not out of line I would like to ask for an address to send him a thank you letter.
