May I though make my comment here that I as a small boy recall growing up in England experienced the sound of Machine gun fire as I looked up into the sky watching Hurricans and German aircraft dicing at what appeared a slow speed. But of course that a deception at what was really happening! Of course even with cranked necks my friends and I couldn't stop looking. Marvelling at the dexterity of our RAF chaps. All this still solid in my memory at the age two and a half to three years of age. This age for sure my superb RAF Uncle Roy Shackell confirmed without hesitation when I asked him this question some years back. He a Senior RAF mechanic that travelled with the high RAF echelon; who with my Father I loved dearly.
Early ones no, because they used the American Hamilton Standard prop. The British designed spinner was not large enough for the HS prop dome. The spinner was eventually redesigned to accommodate and then it was fitted to Cdn made Hurricanes.
The Hurricane deserves a lot more credit than is portrayed by media and story books. This aircraft was much more economical to produce and more sturdy than the dainty Spitfire.
