This games base was developed by Starbreeze and it was left for the development of Payday 3. They released what they had into a beta and then that was also the same product on full launch. Some may blame covid, but I blame the incompetence of Smilegate developers as they’re the ones who took over the project from Starbreeze. They tried to turn their own franchise into a Call of Duty clone and Microsoft cut their gamepass exclusivity deal so now they don’t want to fund it themselves. Instead the same team who ruined CFX are now working on a PlayStation VR version Crossfire Sierra Squad, so the guys who did nothing but ruin the game after Starbreeze left, have now gotten another deal with PlayStation for a VR title? Like who is honestly going to play it. For the record, whatever core fanbase CrossfireX ever had was for the classic mode (hipfire only). The devs that took over were insistent on making a cod clone and doing an absolutely terrible job at it even though their feedback for a year straight was “focus on classic mode, it’s where you’ve got something unique” etc. Even when they paid top streamers to try out their horrible modern cod clone mode they were persuaded by us in the chat to try the classic mode and they instantly said it’s where the games at it’s best and actually has a future here. Some of the biggest streamers were paid to play this game like ZooMaa. You can see what I’m getting at here. They were incompetent for the project to begin with, tried to take on the top fps games whilst ditching the games roots and Microsoft pulled the plug on them. For what it’s worth, I played and enjoyed classic mode and there was actually a separate discord with 200 players in the first month of the game for just this mode but since we had all of 2 maps to play a lot of people left very quickly.
@@MMaRsu This was game was supposed to be csgo for console if it followed its roots, which a lot of people actually want. However the devs made it Xbox only and tried to disregard everything about the franchise’ history and then made a really awful cod clone
I tried this when it came out and just thought it was complete garbage. Just another shooter trying to fill the CoD and BF void but failed on so many levels.
@@SOWICKEDIMWUZIE But no one watches that. lol Worse its an Xbox exclusive so that further limits the exposure. I haven't follow up on any game show since like 2008.
If it had been released on pc I and many others would've played it. Its so confusing that it ended up being an Xbox exclusive since the original had always been a pc game.
Not only that. If you release a game that has an exclusivity like xbox and ps5 you know that game won't end well. Better to release the game in pc for start point since we always know that pc always been superior.
I never heard of these titles until today and tbh, I can see why CrossfireX never hit with a mainstream audience. Overhype trailer mixed with cutting edge graphics seemed like a formula to success; but making it an Xbox ONE exclusive is what inevitably killed it off. Great video as always bro!
Well, if the game itself was good, it could have overcome it and actually succeed. But having a massively negative reception from Day one kills it, and no amount of update can fix the CORE problems. Imagine that even their store seems to be buggy at times indicate their priroties... if they had any.
I disagree completely. The game didn't fail because it was an Xbox exclusive, the game failed because the game wasn't good at all. It had multiple issues. If the game had launched on PC, it would still face the same criticisms that it's receiving now on Xbox. The main foundation of the game was broken, and that's what lead to it's downfall.
it was a game mostly popular in Asia. I honestly don't know why they made the sequel an xbox exclusive beyond getting funding, because the audience and expectations beyond it being a CS clone were not the target demographic that xbox had.
I've been on PC almost exclusively for almost 7 years. I saw this game on Xbox, I went to give it a try. I couldn't aim to save my life lol, stopped after 5 minutes
The original crossfire was my Literal VERY FIRST multiplayer shooter I ever played. I used to play it on my family's original family dell laptop in the late 2000s at our family's old business that had wifi (before we officially got wifi at our house in the early 2010s) so hearing that a new iteration of the very first MP game I played was coming got me hyped. Loved the trailers that came out, and in general was stoked that the xbox was getting yet another Xbox exclusive multiplayer title. Especially when I heard that remedy was making the single player component. When I finally got around to playing it, it was a bummer dude. Crossfire X was probably THE WORST video game I ever played since probably Aliens Colonial Marines & Duke Nukem Forever. The graphics were advanced but looked cheap at the exact same time. The gun mechanics and gameplay lacked balancing because every gun (back when i stilled cared to play it) dealt the exact same amount of damage, making them all worthless and lacked any uniqueness. Controls were janky as hell, thus making movement felt weird when playing with the controller (I'm sure it controlled better on PC). That's not even mentioning the confusing as hell gun load out screen when selecting which weapon you want to choose (if you were even able to do so since there was a glitch that prevented me from doing so). As well as the random screen tearing glitch that would occur on the non classic "competitive mode" when using the guns. This game was broken beyond belief, and even if they were to fix the bugs and issues, it wouldn't stop it from being a boring game. It just wasn't fun to play from the start. Hell, the 2020 beta they released during the covid pandemic felt more tame than what actually came out on launch day, and even then that beta highlighted some of those issues I noticed with the official release version. They screwed up this game hard, and honestlyz there should have been ZERO excuse for it to release in the state that it did. I'm sad that the game is shutting down, but at the same time I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It was brain dead from the start, and with them shutting down the servers this upcoming May, all they're doing is pulling the plugs on its life support. Dam Shame, but it's a "it is what it is" scenario. No one is to blame other than the incompetence of the higher ups that pushed this game out too soon for release.
CF was my first fps, i still like it to this day but it's jsut too outdated now. only thing i enjoy about CF today is the weapon designs and animations.
No one is to blame, but the fps games market itself. It has been a joke for more than 7 years now. Literally the only playable fps games are cod and battlefield and they both suck in their own way... Go figure
"Spectre" mode is not a new mode. It is the "Ghost" mode of the original Crossfire. Fun mode to play in the past where a player really needs skills in order to pull off being a ghost. As the ghost, there are multiple of tricks that you can do, most famous is the bhop, where you can move fast and invisible by timing your crouch jumping backwards, advanced version is you still jump backwards then turn around to jump forward while keeping the invisibility and momentum to gain large distance. As the Global Risk, you just need to know the usual spots of the ghosts and also, the breathing. Ghosts have loud breathing that it will reveal their general direction and the player will just blindly shoot in that direction until they hit someone. Good Global Risk players will most of the time be called a "cheater" because they know how the ghosts works and the spots.
I used to play crossfire a lot in middle school, even skipped school mid day to play this in cyber cafe with my friends, one of defining moments of my childhood, sad to see its sequel dead. Tho rightfully so, they choose to ignore their biggest fanbase
Thats good to hear bro but yeah its dead in the western countries but here in asia like braz china and korea its still alive and i still play it they even updated the graphics a little bit and there's a lot of tournies lan and online aswell which is great
If they brought it to PC I would've absolutely played that. Been dying for a good new shooter. They died because of exclusivity more than anything I feel. Bugs and some bad design certainly doesn't help, but far and away the worst thing you can do is limit your market pool so severely especially with such a renowned IP.
You would've tried it and most likely quit because of the P2W mechanics, like almost every other F2P PC shooter of this type, like Blacklight Retribution and Tactical Intervention. These games do what they're designed to do; get a quick buck out of the few players that spend money, then disappear forever because the player base is nothing but P2W tryhards.
Idk man. Sony sells insane amount of games and they are exclusives. The game was just simply bad. It copied COD but did a much worse job. Why play crossfire x when you can just play cod. Yes making it exclusive was dumb because PC gamers are a weird market. Hate on great games but love games like CSGO. So it could have been good but even then why play that when you can play csgo lol game was just bad. No identity of its own
@@Caffeinated-DaVinci I don’t know about the pay 2 win saying on cross fire cause the reskins are just that, reskins of the default weapons cause I think occasionally it’s there weapons you have to grind a lot to get.
The OG Crossfire is not much more than a p2w infested Counter Strike clone (The spectre mode is cool tho). Releasing it for PC would be even more disastrous given the throngs of existing shooters out there
It being an Xbox exclusive wasn’t the entire reason for its fail, I played it when the beta first came out and it was honestly so refreshing and brought back the nostalgia of what made the old FPS games great, the problem they seem to had in my opinion was the multiple year delays and horrible controls they had on launch, those may not seem so bad but there was no advertisement up until like a month before the game released and the game seemed completely different from beta to launch ( In a bad way).
I loved the beta, but the full launch felt totally different and had literally like no content on launch which makes me wonder what were all the delays for
@@marlon.8051 I'm literally not game is straight garbage.. I'm saying he didn't play it or he would know how dumb his statement sounds.. but I guess this comment attracted more dumb people.. lmfao
@@marlon.8051 I think they were saying "you didn't play it" because they were referring to the fact that the game didn't die BCS it was an Xbox exclusive. It died because the game was terrible from it's mechanics down to it's maps. But idk, I'm just making a guess on what they could've meant.
The moment i heard one of my childhood fps's was coming back i was so happy until i realized it was only for xbox and not pc which left me both very confused and depressed as why they didnt pirotize pc although now that I've seen how quick it died and how buggy it was we prop dodged a bullet anyways
well tbh i still dont know why they didn't make a PC version, they were trying to penetrate Western markets and it would make sense if they also have a PC version. Its just improper management only. If it was in PC it would have done well especially in asia where its a powerhouse.@@kingcobragaming8551
I instantly forgot about the game after a day or two... Especially since the Single Player bug not being able to play it... But I am glad I didnt try it, the jank controls on MP was rough to get around it, so I imagine how bad it is for SP as well. This is quite unfortunate, sadly.
A lot of people say it only failed because it didn't release on PC. I can tell you for a fact that is wrong. Crossfire X was a mess from start to finish. The campaign was... I'd say maybe a 5 out of 10 max. But it had no heart. That was not Remedy. No idea why they had their name on it. The multiplayer was unbelievably pay to win. I haven't seen a non mobile game this pay to win since the Xbox 360/PS3 era. The bugs were so bad, it made Battlefield 2042s launch look like it should be industry standard. Imagine doing fairly well in the game and then suddenly the game bugs out and everyone including your own team is invisible. I gave the game some on again off again time seeing if it would improve. Even as recently as November 2022 because of all the sponsored videos getting advertised on TH-cam saying "This game will KILL Modern Warfare II." I knew that wasn't true but thought that meant they atleast did some bug fixes. Nope! They added some content, and new bugs. It did not die because it wasn't on PC. This game probably would have bricked your PC.
Played it once on my Xbox, it was on game pass. Decided to give it a try, went into the game blind not knowing anything about it. First impressions were “wow this feels so clunky and weird.” Next was the spawn camping issues. Next was the horrible “team balancing”it was really apparent at who was spending money on the game and who wasn’t. I tried both classic and modern modes. Both felt way off and shortly after I uninstalled it from my system. Never again.
buyers actually didn't really have any advantage. You always could buy a great gun from the start. Not a spenders fault that you didn't research what guns and attachments worked best. And *points* gatling gun! Big woop, it was trash anyways.
@@dimakappa2195 It's pretty shit, yeah. Like if a bunch of people who knew nothing about guns or real military made a shooter where "cool" was the only design brief.
@@dimakappa2195crossfire was the most played game of all time for a short time what do you mean? It's range in Asia alone is enough to beat any western games player base.
Tried it. My VERY FIRST match, I was just being constantly spawn trapped by two guys that had this weird armor and dual weild SMG's. It was generally the worst game I ever played
What I really want to know, is how come a gamer like me can look at this game before release and instantly know that it’ll be a failure, but multi million dollar companies think they have a good thing going? Game developers these days seem to be outstandingly out of touch with the actual gamers.
i remember playing the beta for it and loving it but then once the beta closed I never heard of it after that. I really enjoyed it especially the CS style game mode they had. I feel if they were to release this again but have it on the PC and take away the ptw parts it could be a really good game
"how could Remedy known for incredible games in their past put out something so bad" and almost tripple A studios recently, Dice, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard...
I found a bud that I hadn't seen anywhere else, if you had a burst fire weapon I noticed that the burst was actually FASTER than the full auto setting and by a lot, you could fire in burst mode and then swap to full auto to mag dump INSANELY fast
Crazy as hell I was one of those players for the entire life cycle of the this very small but impressing counter strike remake. It had so many little twist that made it fun as hell.
This game failed because of two critical reasons: - Bad release date - A game that has original PC player base realeased on console exclusive When the game was announced, i wasn't even happy to hear because it is a console FPS game and the original Crossfire is well-known for ozzing with P2W. A little sad that it flop because at least if the game release on PC, i could play a bit of it and make meme. The game die so fast. RIP, you won't ever be missed
Sad that devs literally took no notes from CS from Xbox Original as CFX feels like absolute crap even at 120fps. CS xbox nailed the feel of classic counter strike style game on controller & sad for me I never had chance to play that at its prime when xbox live original was around.
Imma be real I do remember being told about this game, but they released right after warface breakout was released. With that being said that's competition right off the bat for the 2 and they both really did go through a countless number of struggles like warface breakout suffered d-sync, lag, crashes, massive bugs, etc. BUT they were making a slight comeback in my eyes like it wasn't exactly terrible it just felt stiff for too long for the number of updates that have dropped for the game months after release. CrossfireX shouldn't have died looking at it now especially with the fact that it gives off a bit of a nostalgic feel not just from pc but console as well. Most games like CrossfireX don't even make it to consoles because it's usually an EU developed game and most of those games don't qualify to be cross play due to development. EU games are like the bare bones of nostalgia and pure competition while NA games are bound to always have too much to offer to where you don't even play the whole game because there is so much and now, we have a battle pass to worry about. Most EU games are now starting to fall off the pay to win phase which is great. Now they have things like Exclusive bundles/dlcs, gun/character skins that can be bought with or without real currency which is fine a game has got to grow somehow, global participating events, cheap offers, and passes (NOT BATTLEPASSES). AVA is a great example of passes. In order to play arena which is ranked in AVA you have to buy the arena pass which is like $9.99 that's not bad and it's reasonable. If you truthfully want real ranked players on your game that'll actually compete and not beat on their selves on who's better and who's not you put a price on it because unfortunately the ranked world is a different breed of players who need to be placed in secured and verified matches. War is not fair meaning ranked is not fair also meaning just do whatever you have to do to achieve what you truthfully want out of ranked... Granted, it does seem a bit absurd to see ranked in that perspective, but we really have games where people play ranked just to play when there are countless amounts of other game modes for them to play but don't play like ranked. Which is why most games need to always make sure that they add an unranked or scrim mode for those who like to play serious but not ladder wise. The unranked game modes will help out those who dream of wanting to go pro and have what it takes to become a true pro player but are unable to compete in ranked ladders at the time. In conclusion, unranked needs to be more active and ranked needs to become more exclusive. Ranked should always have requirements before being able to actually compete with the best of the best and not just waiting or attempting to join a team. Otherwise, you have a whole ranked community filled with unprepared players and top dog players. I know that sounds like that's how it should be but in reality, why keep tossing the top dogs' players that are truthfully never prepared for what is about to happen that current match. You will then have players who start to call bullshit and then later on give up when usually it's just the ridiculous MMR comparison like if they are really trying to push your limits to how much you can really handle. CSGO is a great example of the whole MMR issue... For years players have struggled to rank up at least once in a comp match. Players have tied in their matches and still will de-rank... What does it truthfully take to constantly rank up in CSGO? Win streaks? Statistics? Top fragging? It almost seems like anything can be done to rank up in CSGO. Surprisingly you can lose a match on CSGO and still rank up. Almost as if they were making it to if you yourself does well enough on your own goals as far as MMR and rank you will rank up completely disregarding the hard loss not only you but the whole team took. I looked at this as a backfire to de-rankers, meaning no matter how bad they do on purpose, as long as you do well and meet your requirements you will rank up. I remember only having 7 kills, died on every single round, and I still ranked up, enough said...
Damn, I thought this game was gonna be from 2015 or like 2018 when you compared the launch to the MCC. I’m shocked that this game out only in 2022 and I’ve never heard anything about it!
i remember playing the Beta with one of my friends, it was so fun and honestly there wasn't many problems other than the performance. But as soon as the game properly launched there was so much wrong. The P2W aspects, the bugs, the visual glitches, and the borderline scam that was the paid campaigns. Its sad but unfortunatley we will have to see it go. So much potential
I use to play the snd mode . I spent hours searching for this game again jus to find out it was deleted off of xbox lol i wanted to play it again closest thing i had to csgo
The Minigun otherwise the gatlingun was actually pretty easy to obtain on my experience. Also it wasn't really good on normal modes it was only good on the Zombies/Mutant Mode. I also want to add that you could get CP otherwise the premium currency for free on the free event pass. The game was decent at best but it released on a poor state without content spliting the player base between the Classic Mode and Modern Moden. This is where they fail because this also meant that they had to split the content. I also want to add that they didn't deliver much content, before release the game was delayed for a long time and you would think they will add content but they didn't add anything it was just like the beta. If you compare this game to the one that on Asia that is called CrossfireHD and is on the PC theyre are pretty similar in terms of graphics they only had to port all that content to this crossfire and it would be better in my opinion but this game died due to being a console exclusive. If they port Crossfire HD globally and on Steam just like Remedy and amazon did to Lost Ark I am 100% sure we will probably see Crossfire alive to this day.
I played the crossfire beta and the bugs that I experienced when it fully released were never present in beta. Which sucks because this was one of the game I was excited for.
Remembered when i played this game i thought there was a weird Weapon Hierarchy because a Rifle has a very slow TTK while an LMG could possibly kill a player in 3 shots, i had a loadout of M60 as a primary and a Glock 18 with Shield as Secondary, i can use the Shield as protection when trying to find enemies and the M60 to kill them The Glock 18 with Shield has a scary precision
I dont understand why closing live-services doesnt offer refunds for the entirity of the purchases made during its life-span. The whole point of why you purchase microtransactions in a live-service game is to ensure the game never does END.
The reason why it at failed launch was a lack of content a shady business predatory practice & a campaign that was okay depending how your experience with the single player was, also I was in a club that almost had 500 members for this game but players in the club started to stop playing dwindling the player base because of the realization that it was just a game still in a beta phased & a progression system that was trying to force us to pay actual money for guns, skins & xp boosters
I still don't understand how Remedy could fuck up this bad. I would love for someone like Jason Schreier to do an exposé on this and tell us what truly happend.
It's just sad to see this sequel. When I was young, I was playing alot of crossfire with my friends, ofc it wasn't pefect either back in the day, with cheaters and pay to win loot-boxes. But the overall experience was really good. The controls felt like cs, the map designes were insanly good in s&d and ghost mode. The problem I see with the sequel is, that it is not a console game, bc it does not fit the dynamic of a cs-like game. Also the "modern" gameplay was not somethink the old community wanted. If they just released a muliplayer, with upgreated graphics and focused on the old gameplay/maps, than it might have had a chance.
I grew up playing Crossfire. Solid game, but a lot of its non Search & Destroy maps were terribly designed and allowed for constant spawn trapping on nearly all maps. Ghost Mode and Mutant Mode were super fun, though. Reverse bunnyhopping to remain nearly invisible while quickly closing distance with the enemy was fantastic, as even the base knife could one-tap the enemy with a heavy strike to the head. Going Xbone exclusive while at the same time transitioning away from previously only being available on PC was a terrible decision on its own. Then its total lack of advertising sealed the deal. I wasn't even aware CrossfireX existed. The last Crossfire game I heard about was a smartphone game.
Damn, I remember playing Crossfire in North America in 2011 on my shitty PC. I loved the game cause I didn't have much other options. Didn't have a console or high end gaming PC, so playing this F2P PC game was great!
What they should've done for the game, release the single player campaign of both consoles (PS5 and XSX/XSS) also on PC, release the multiplayer to Xbox,PS, switch and PC, allow for mouse and keyboard support on consoles, crossplay support to PC Xbox and PS
I read a lot of bullshit in here with people who don't have a clue. This game had huge hype behind it and the devs / publisher ruined it by rushing it to market. Controls / mechanics are terrible and it's just a generic shooter from early 2000s Nothing revolutionary nothing inspired. Of course it failed. Had nothing to do because it wasn't on pc.
Honestly totally forgot about it even though I watch the initial announcement at xbox and by the looks of it, I didn't miss much. Appreciate developing a game isn't easy but the game at the very least has to play well otherwise you're asking for failure
Seeing CFX getting capped is honestly satisfying. CF was a very predatory game and the main source of audience came from people in China and SK who were not tech-savy, didn't have good PCs or consoles, and some of which living about the poverty line, which was a lot, and many of which were minors. Back in 10-15 years ago the game basically operated in the similar fashion as to how currently mobile games work, and they made basically 0 improvements to the game except putting more p2w items. They waited so long for the Western market because CF gradually died out in China (some believed that it was surpassed by Pubg), and that the predatory business mode became somewhat mainstream too in China. There is a great contempt in making of the game as the singleplayer was spearheaded by Remedy, the PVP part was done by the Smilegate, so there is a great dip in quality comparing to the campaign. SG wanted to use Remedy to attract new players to the game and bait and switch to save costs and run the game like it was back in the old days. All in all I'm glad the game is gone.
I was so hyped for this game. When I was young my clan was top 10 in NA server. So when I saw CrossfireX I got so hyped and my hype died after learning it was a Xbox exclusive
to add to what i said another contribution to this game's downfall were the 1 star reviews left on xbox the first month. most were people either saying rip off cod or the aiming was terrible. and this was before the aiming was actually terrible so people who tried classic literally didn't understand recoil or recoil patterns or literally how to shoot the gun because of the hip aim so they gave 1 star reviews. 70% of games the bomb wasn't planted because noobs literally didn't know how to plant the bomb
There is an exclusive Crossfire title in China called Crossfire HD which where all of the assets were drawn and reused From. The game is built in Unreal 3 and had 3 year's of testing since 2019. The game featured both Original Map and re textured CS maps like literally it has Cs maps but most of them are original. In some maps there are wooden barricade that you shoot to access shortcuts and also brick walls that is highlited with light rims indicating that wall can be destroyed with Frag grenade. And weirdly enough that game isn't pay to win all guns are achievable through grinding and no deluxe pack or etc that allows you to automatically unlock mini gun. It has alot of playermodels you know those campaign operations were just campaign Event for Crossfire HD. And yes they have battle pass but it doesn't Premium section so all those stuff were 100% free. And it tons of modes from Infection(with wide range of zombie playermodels to be played when infected), specter mode and guess what ZOMBIE ESCAPE from CSS custom game. Ranked games quite generous too when it comes to the reward, the rewards are skins (weirdly enough They have Skins For grenades) and yes some playermodels are Locked behind paywall including some animated Skins (some can be earned through battlpass) Its available in PC and you can play it if you have Chinese phone number but it's kinda risky. The graphics well it's kinda a downgrade from Cfx but it has more flairs and its fully supported with NVIDIA card Along with Ray Trace. There are alot of the gameplays uploaded on TH-cam you should check them.
To conclude my point. I personally believe that there can be competition for FPS games specifically for console players. To be quite honest to speak out for my friends and other players, we desperately want a different FPS game or many different FPS games on Consol having call duty Apex in Fortnite be the only choices really sucks. We’ve always wanted to have some kind of competitive first person game. The closest thing we have is rainbow six siege, but even that sometimes gets boring or gets cluttered with cheats. I wish there was a development team that realizes how they can truly be successful if they actually put their focus on an actual tactical first person shooter, that also relied on micro transactions on skins on weapons and not a battle pass system.
4:30 Well, that's nothing new. FPS games with unholy overpowered weapons are quite common here in Asia. Especially back in around 2010s, shits like, "Golden Gatling Gun" or some bullshit like "VIP AK47".
Man I remember those days... Crossfire, Combat Arms, AvA, and all the F2P landscape we had back in the day. It helped a poor boy like me get into shooter before I ever had any money for steam. They were all massive pay-2-win cashgrabs but back then it was almost the norm for free games.
As an OG CF player I forgot about this the moment I saw the console exclusivity lol, taking a PC popular F2P Fps and placing it as a single console exclusive whoever thought this was a way to succeed was delusional AF
I first played it around the beginning of last year and I honestly really enjoyed the campaign, the only thing I didn't like about it is that it's way too short. Wanted to buy the Spectre campaign or whatever it's called but I never got around to doing so
Was remedy the ones that made crossfire X terrible if so then its not like them to make bad games let alone making a multiplayer game also was Sam lake involved.
This game was badass to me... I would've NEVER gave C.O.D a chance all over again, if it wasn't for M.P Matches in this game... I gave up on CoD and really liked this game. 10 yrs since I played CoD
I have a literal list for why Crossfire X died. - CrossfireX had an identity problem. It wanted to be old Crossfire and have that Crossfire/CSGO gunplay while also trying to be a modern FPS. Doing both is tough and not worth the effort, pick one or the other. - Being an Xbox exclusive didn't help, exclusivity for any system automatically kneecaps possible reach. - Mobility wasn't good. Warface does it better with sliding (though that can be toned back a bit, everyone slides like they're lubed up) and the co-op mantling which let maps have interesting vertical elements. - Lack of weapons and attachments. Because everything was so monetized and gated any weapon progression was a grind to the point of being a bad grind. Character customization and some skins should have been the focus for monetization. - Multiplayer "streaks" were awful. Dual mp5s that mulch people and 6x health isn't fun to be on the receiving end of and it gets kinda boring using it after a bit. Yeah nobody is hootin and hollerin about UAVs and attack choppers but they work and can be a starting point. Being able to give my team intel makes me feel like I'm helping more than cashing in points to be riot shield man. - Babylon should have been a large focus. The mechs were cool, the domination style accompanying it worked well. But it came out far too late. More maps with those mechs and it would have drawn people in and kept them around. It could have muscled into the void left behind by Battlefield. Infantry focused combat with some vehicle support would be a throwback to games like Enemy Territory Quake Wars and MAG. It would be a welcomed change over everyone just pumping out BRs, Extraction Shooters, or SnD focused games. - The Infected mode sucked. Having areas of maps that were horrible choke points or being able to glitch out of the map. The infected themselves were boring and absolute sponges so the game had to bounce them back when shot to give players a chance. Should have gone standard infected, normal health and mobility, it's worked for a long time for a reason. - The game needed more standard game modes. Spectre is cool but that's a niche mode. A good core launch would be TDM, Free for All, SnD, Domination, and Hardpoint. That's a good blend of competitive, objective focused, and kill focused games. That gives something for everyone. - The lack of maps. Launching with I think like 1 map per mode in some cases made a horrible impression. At least launch maps needed to be available for every mode. Coming into the F2P FPS market is tough so a lot has to be available right out the gate. Graphics alone won't pull people from CSGO, Warzone, Black Squad, Ironsight, or Warface. Graphics won't keep people either. The shiniest most high resolution turd is still at the end of the day just a turd.
This game was just a super fast blip on the radar for me. I remember being very underwhelmed by the gameplay footage and then never thinking of it again.
I installed it when it came out. Went to jump into a match and got booted repeatedly due to unstable servers. I live in Australia and the game didn't have any servers for me to connect to. 😅 I was hoping there would be a region select option but no. Uninstalled shortly after. It did look like a fun time from game play clips
Tried it because I was just looking thru free games/game pass and when I played it, it was like I had cataracts. I couldn't see 3 metres in front of me, everything was blurry, horrible experience.
This shit reminds me of Warframe, a game which I genuinely don't understand why it got popular. You literally had to spend so much money to have guns unlocked either temporarily, or permanently.
I think it's lack of advertisement, at least i have almost never heard of the game, but also the fact that it was a console exculsive, think about it, and fps, that could be great on mouse and keyboard, but at their studio they think controller is the best, which makes no sense to me
When i first play Crossfire, the microtransaction weren't that Major, mostly for skins and all that. Now, there's more shops than there's games, every f*cking round is either hackers or sweaty try hard with limited dragon gun.
Not releasing CFHD globally for PC after the initial announcement is their biggest mistake. A lot of the OG CF players is totally hyped for the release of new crossfire game. But their decision to launch this game on console and limiting their pc version to china player only make many old player start to forgetting this game and playing another game like valorant, csgo, and other comp. Shooter. The longer they delayed the global pc version, the more playerbase they'll lose in the future.
I forgot about this game until I saw LevelCap's video on the new 50v50 game mode they did for CrossfireX and I knew he was getting that bag and good for him. Then I forgot about it again until I saw this video now, while I did hate this game on one of your videos when the trailer dropped 3 years ago, I still think despite all the P2W it could've been a little fun. If it were on PC I probably would have tried it, trying to relive Combat Arm days of penny pinching GP from a mere 280GP per TDM match.
crossfire X couldve been an opportunity appeal to the old CF Vets that have left since long ago. I played since the launch and also played in a few ghost mode scrims from 2011 all the way to 2018. They couldve added the charm of why the original CF was enjoyable. Like the different fun modes that were in CF (Mutation, ghost mode, etc) Its kind of sad to see the orignal CF die down in players as of 2023 and to see the CFx sequel fail
God this brings me so much nostalgia, I'm just gonna share that crossfire exploded in asia predominantly in south east asian countries such as Philippines where i live and holy fuck, it was the shit back then. Everywhere you look kids to grown ups they all play cf, nobody fucking know or cares about csgo or any popular fps at that time because of how big cf was it dominated the entire gaming scene that it overshadowed any kind of fps games trying to compete with the market. I still remember the scams, the skin giveaway, the blatant monetisation, the toxic community, the account buying, that game in hindsight is awful but god it was awesome to look back those fond memories of cutting classes just to play and shit on other players in internet cafés with your friends.
What’s the source for it being the most played game in the world? I literally googled it and it’s not in any top 10 list I can find except wikipedias, which claims against other sources that it was the most played in 2020 until PUBG beat it in 2022.
I was excited to play at launch considering at the time nothing was hot on xbox in the fps realm. I purchased what was basically the season 1 pass thing and played it for a weekend.....haven't touched it since.....
I played the old crossfire in 2009 till 2017. I got excited when I heard there's a new version in the works. It's a shock to hear that when they released it it was an Xbox console exclusive. While most of their fan base is on pc. No wonder the game died quickly.
The fact that he's surprised about the pay to win proves that he had never played the original Crossfire, where said gatling gun can only be obtained via lottery with 1% chance per roll.
it's like games companies actively try to ruin games, they might as well draw out a big bundle of cash and just burn it like that one scene from the dark knight
Never saw a single ad about this game. Didn't even know it existed. Probably because they didn't come to PC. And current gen consoles are nearly obsolete. My 7 year old 2k gaming rig with ZERO upgraded still out preforms consoles by nearly X3 times. PC is so massive you need to launch on it for the hype to bleed into consoles unless your a very established title already.
The trailer looked so sick, moving from military realism to straight up weaponized banshees and huge mechs I was stoked!! And then I played it and it was nothing like what they were showcasing at all haha, HORRIBLE gunplay and that's an understatement
7:10 "destined for greatness", yeah right. The only reason the original game is popular is because a literal fucking toaster could run it, and they don't ban people who lag. Smilegate is an awful company and I will NEVER forgive them for giving crossfire so much support and funding, but all but completely ignoring Lost Saga. One of THE MOST unique fighting games ever made... left to rot without even a shred, a morsel of what they gave crossfire. CrossfireX was doomed from the start, and I'm glad. Like I said, the only reason the original is popular is because the worst of the worst computers can run it, and lagging is basically a mechanic. Investing probably hundreds of thousands of dollars into developing a next gen crossfire was one of smilegates patented "shooting themselves in the foot" situation from day one. I'm not saying this as a slight to those that play it, but the original game is popular in more second/third world parts of the world, who definitely would not have the means or desire to buy an Xbox. Crappy computers and even crappier internet is the only way that original game got as big as it is, so a next gen (and console exclusive at that) crossfire was NEVER going to work.
Did it? I remember the first reactions already being lukewarm and headscratching at best when we got to know, that Rememdy was doing the singleplayer. This basically screamed Dead on Arrival.
I played CF for like 15 years and made so many accounts now only left with my OG account and 2 pilot accounts and Ive never heard of Crossfire X lol...
I played the game at launch, and played the original PC crossfire for a while. I can see where the game was TRYING to bring the old version into a newer space, being hit with some nostalgia over the familiar maps. I enjoyed the Ghost mode, and the Classic mode, but the games MODERN mode was far from anything good. It's a shame to see something I enjoyed go so far wrong.
One of the rules I follow, If it is on Gamepass or a MS Studios game, 99% chance it is just mediocre. That has been pretty much the bar for them for 20 yrs. and buying basically every named franchise of the last 20 yrs will not change that %.
I think they've made the mistake of spending every single Dollar on development and literally nothing on marketing. Barely anyone knew this was even out. Would've been easy to offer this to the Call of Duty singleplayer crowd given that there are barely any FPS campaigns available anymore.
Why do YOU think CrossfireX is dead? Let me know down below👇 Leave a like on the video if you enjoyed it and I'll see you on the next one!
Wasnt it xbox only and never came to pc? That could explain its death
Because CSGO is a thing.
The fact that I haven't even heard of Crossfire X shows that it had major problems beyond execution of a good game. I literally never heard of it.
Was literally about to write this.
Was literally at a game showcase
@@SOWICKEDIMWUZIE But no one watches that. lol Worse its an Xbox exclusive so that further limits the exposure. I haven't follow up on any game show since like 2008.
If it had been released on pc I and many others would've played it. Its so confusing that it ended up being an Xbox exclusive since the original had always been a pc game.
@@JadeMythriil yea and you would have realized the game was straight trash.. the platform wouldn't change the gameplay and the gameplay was shit

@@Martial-Mat No. What was said in the video is that the game was BAD.
@@GrandMastaKiwi Indeed.
it was a game mostly popular in Asia. I honestly don't know why they made the sequel an xbox exclusive beyond getting funding, because the audience and expectations beyond it being a CS clone were not the target demographic that xbox had.
Failed to launch on the most important system. PC master race. That's where their fan base was and they chose to ignore them.
I've been on PC almost exclusively for almost 7 years. I saw this game on Xbox, I went to give it a try. I couldn't aim to save my life lol, stopped after 5 minutes
What's even more weird is that there is originally a PC sequel called Crossfire HD but only for China
Game would of been trash either way
True, Console is the poor mans PC. 😎👍
@@DanielFrost79 :
No one is to blame other than the incompetence of the higher ups that pushed this game out too soon for release.
same ! 😄
CF was my first fps, i still like it to this day but it's jsut too outdated now. only thing i enjoy about CF today is the weapon designs and animations.
crossfire never was popular enough. Its just that it was popular in asia and asia has loads of people so it is why its "most played".
No. The game died because of the devs not caring about its playerbase.
Same I remember playing the beta & at launch they both felt different
I know, how is the beta better than the main launch?
I loved the beta, but the full launch felt totally different and had literally like no content on launch which makes me wonder what were all the delays for

well tbh i still dont know why they didn't make a PC version, they were trying to penetrate Western markets and it would make sense if they also have a PC version. Its just improper management only.
This is exactly why I wanted them to drop it on PC. Can't say they didn't kinda invite this. Sucks to see it go either way though.
Why so it could suck there too?
crossfire never was popular enough. Its just that it was popular in asia and asia has loads of people so it is why its "most played".
This goes to show that a company of making hits in the past can always find a way to fail in the future.

Crazy as hell I was one of those players for the entire life cycle of the this very small but impressing counter strike remake. It had so many little twist that made it fun as hell.
This game failed because of two critical reasons:
- Bad release date
- A game that has original PC player base realeased on console exclusive
When the game was announced, i wasn't even happy to hear because it is a console FPS game and the original Crossfire is well-known for ozzing with P2W.
"p2w"??? 😂
Love the content BigFry keep it up!!
Remembered when i played this game i thought there was a weird Weapon Hierarchy because a Rifle has a very slow TTK while an LMG could possibly kill a player in 3 shots,
i had a loadout of M60 as a primary and a Glock 18 with Shield as Secondary, i can use the Shield as protection when trying to find enemies and the M60 to kill them
The Glock 18 with Shield has a scary precision
I dont understand why closing live-services doesnt offer refunds for the entirity of the purchases made during its life-span. The whole point of why you purchase microtransactions in a live-service game is to ensure the game never does END.
The reason why it at failed launch was a lack of content a shady business predatory practice & a campaign that was okay depending how your experience with the single player was, also I was in a club that almost had 500 members for this game but players in the club started to stop playing dwindling the player base because of the realization that it was just a game still in a beta phased & a progression system that was trying to force us to pay actual money for guns, skins & xp boosters
Hey, have you played or seen Out of Action yet? That game looks awesome.

People are getting bored of these cod clones. We need a good multiplayer game like a modern ghost recon or socom.
Controls / mechanics are terrible and it's just a generic shooter from early 2000s
Nothing revolutionary nothing inspired.
Its 2024, Delta Force Hawk Ops is coming out soon and its in Beta and I'm reminded of this game.
I was so hyped for this game. When I was young my clan was top 10 in NA server. So when I saw CrossfireX I got so hyped and my hype died after learning it was a Xbox exclusive
same... wonder if it went PC how many old time players would've played
@@kit.e6864 I would for sure! CSGO doesnt do the same for me.
to add to what i said another contribution to this game's downfall were the 1 star reviews left on xbox the first month. most were people either saying rip off cod or the aiming was terrible. and this was before the aiming was actually terrible so people who tried classic literally didn't understand recoil or recoil patterns or literally how to shoot the gun because of the hip aim so they gave 1 star reviews.
This campaign was actually good. too bad I played it after they stopped allowing you to purchase the second one
The only game I want to be revived, and the game I would trade many, many games away in order to do so, is the original GunZ. And the time.
Tbh never heard if the game. I feel like the gaming space is so oversaturated with milsim shooters. As always love your content dude.
4:30
Well, that's nothing new.
They were all massive pay-2-win cashgrabs but back then it was almost the norm for free games.
as for me contract wars was my go to
As an OG CF player I forgot about this the moment I saw the console exclusivity lol, taking a PC popular F2P Fps and placing it as a single console exclusive whoever thought this was a way to succeed was delusional AF
I first played it around the beginning of last year and I honestly really enjoyed the campaign, the only thing I didn't like about it is that it's way too short. Wanted to buy the Spectre campaign or whatever it's called but I never got around to doing so
I played crossfire so much on the PC back in the late 00s it's crazy, I didn't even know what counter strike was lol
I played the crossfire x beta and loved it couldn't wait for the game to come out but when it did they changed so much It just felt so confusing
It's good they're shutting it down. They made this game out of pure greed. This game was full of p2w features.
Oh it’s done? Damn, maybe they should have listened to my 100 tweets telling them to release it on the PC.
5:36 you are talking about the good old ghost mode
3:50 ah yes, the superior map design ... corridor with boxes
Like the different fun modes that were in CF (Mutation, ghost mode, etc) Its kind of sad to see the orignal CF die down in players as of 2023 and to see the CFx sequel fail
idk whats appealing, you could just play csgo
PC is so massive you need to launch on it for the hype to bleed into consoles unless your a very established title already.
bruh this game was insane back then, computer shops was filled with people waiting to play.
only in asia
Good news is, there's Crossfire HD which is basically just crossfire X but on PC
What a missed opportunity to being back a classic FPS area game in a new totally new and exciting yet familiar way.
Crossfire HD is still happening, which is more actually Crossfire 2 than Crossfire X is, but I do agree it's a shame Crossfire X didn't do well
I played the game at launch, and played the original PC crossfire for a while.
Man, I remember playing the HELL out of Ghost Mode.
One of the rules I follow, If it is on Gamepass or a MS Studios game, 99% chance it is just mediocre. That has been pretty much the bar for them for 20 yrs. and buying basically every named franchise of the last 20 yrs will not change that %.
Gatling guns are the old hand crank style guns, far different than a modern minigun.
Im Happy that i live on the country where Crossfire is very popular and it has a hundred thousands of players daily. Philippines
I think they've made the mistake of spending every single Dollar on development and literally nothing on marketing.
Barely anyone knew this was even out. Would've been easy to offer this to the Call of Duty singleplayer crowd given
that there are barely any FPS campaigns available anymore.
