Hey Joey, I just found your video on the Rocket Repairs channel posted a few weeks ago of you fixing my Xbox (I left a comment there) and just wanted to leave a comment here too. Everything is working perfectly! I appreciate your effort, time and skill. Huge thanks to you!
Having just got back into all this after 25 years, I last repaired a TV/Video recorder/satellite box, and thanks Joey.. your channel popped up on my home page and now I have a fully functioning hot air, microscope rework station at some reasonable cost, I am now thinking at 55 y/o WTF am I doing, all the gear, no idea... What I will say about this video is that you must carry on, you have the skill and reasoning far beyond what I had back in the day and I did alright. Keep on it chap.
I started repairing electronics when i was in high school, fixing vcr's and TV's, was able to roll these skills into travelling the country repairing robots and cnc machines, definitely had to keep learning to keep up with the changing technologies though, starting to work on video game consoles and laptops now that im retired, watching these videos have definitely taught me a lot of the more common issues with these things and saved me a good bit of frustration and time, just remember never too old to learn something new 😊
I've always thought about it, but time will always be hard to track as I'm recording everything also. I don't think it would be a true representation of how long it takes me to do the repairs! Maybe I'll be able to figure something out :)
Hey Joey, I noticed your struggle with the ground pads of the QFN IC of the first Xbox. Little tip for that: It looked to me like there was too little heat. Since they're ground pads, there's a lot more thermal mass and you need to leave the iron there like two, three seconds longer to transfer enough heat from the iron to the pad. Solder will flow a lot better with sufficient heat.
Joey, I'd 100% try and narrow down and replace the offending capacitor array that's getting hot Ive seen one replaced before (taken from donor) and fixed the console!, the corner damage of the apu is only minor.
not sure if its just me but it looks like one off the capacitor arrays just right of the APU looks cracked aswell maybe worth checking that just incase.
It's better practise to inject a bit higher voltage earlier in order to save you some time. Low voltage won't get the components hot enough in order to see them.
ALL components are cracking and faulting easily nowadays, Planned Obsolescence on modern electronics, taking advantage of costumers hunger for products and lack of accountability to those companies. Shame.
Hey Joey! For soldering tips you should really look into a knife edge tip as that will give you the most clearance when soldering the retimer chip legs.
@@JoeyDoesTech Thank you, and you're welcome! I'm doing great! I hope you and the family are doing well! I hope the next video is nothing but profits =)

Hey Joey, which specific microscope do you use? Love your content really want to get into micro-soldering! Thanks, James
Joeyyy back with another amazing video... cant wait for the next one!
Actually quite entertaining despite the no fix, at least you got to the bottom of the issue
the profit/loss balance is interesting to see, but it would be even more interesting to compare the amount of time you spent for the repairs.
I've always thought about it, but time will always be hard to track as I'm recording everything also. I don't think it would be a true representation of how long it takes me to do the repairs! Maybe I'll be able to figure something out :)
When are you live?! Another great episode
You do have a lot of spare ps5 around, is it not possible to swap the APU?
I'm impressed by your cleaning skills.
Hey Joey,

amazing video as always! Does the retimer chip in a xbox one s, give a similar value if faulty?

I'd definitely give it a shot nothing to lose on this board.

Where would you suggest learning the basics?
Where do you buy quality parts from?
Can you not take an APU off a donor board?
Great video as always. Perhaps Phil can replace the APU on that PS5 to restore it to its former glory.
No no nooooooo! We want to see the cleaning!!!
Well, you're still on the profit side, overall! Great Video and Repair! Thanks. 😀
those are capacitor arrays.
You should invest in a hdmi signal tester handy to have and not expensive to buy
I like seeing the cleaning process. LOL

If you go too high and the short is through some silicon you are likely going to fry it.
At the end of this series, are you going to make working versions of all the spare parts you are amassing during this time?
Some of them are long gone! Maybe I'll do a stock take and take the average of each item (HDD, Disc Drive, PSU etc) and include that
I love your ocd ❤
Oh no.. that PS5.. poor Sally... next one's a winner!
Great video again ❤❤❤
Jo Joey, where can I get your microscope holder/ stand?
I absolutely love your Videos!
Less dust bunny and more dust bear on that second console 🤣😂
man, wish that a one x were at 90 pounds on my area...
Aw why not use this as an excuse to get that BGA station and do a swap?
Such a shame. Lots of spares for future fixes, though, so not the end of the world.
Hopefully the next one will yield a good profit.
Bad luck,but g8 work

Hey Chimera! Hope you're well :) Thanks!

Sad for another loss, Joey. Hope you can hit the jackpot next week and fix a disc version PS5
I’m crossing my fingers watching an ad at the start of the video.
I’m sorry joey
Thankyou for watching the ad :D It helps :)
I feel for joeys pocket ;((
that little corner crack cant be the end of the APU...
