That’s my daddy! He is 100% right on the entire experience. I returned to Jamaica at 18 and subsequently emigrated to the US but even now at 42 years old the many things I learnt living in East Africa have enhanced my life to this very day. I live in the South and in relatively rural parts and my East African upbringing has helped me fight right into a ‘country’ community and lifestyle.

I spent a couple of months in Arusha, Tanzania, studying at the Ngiro Wildlife Research Centre. I am Jamaican but I was always taken for a Masai because of my height and build. I'll never forget going to place and placing my order at the bar and having to wait for more than an hour. My friends who did not see me coming back came to find out what was going on. The bartender told them that I was behaving as if I was a foreigner. I wasn't speaking Swahili, I was speaking English.

I did have an issue with power once, but my Airbnb had a backup generator so i got that service in minutes and usually the main source is back on in a few hours. I had no problems with water where I stayed. The internet where i stayed did have some intermittent issues as well. A fix was using a universal internet router with a cell SIM. In general i didnt find the issue overwhelming or pervasive. Check with the resident above as she lives there and could speak on it even better. All the best.

Ive always watched this series on my first arrival on TH-cam, and ive certainly found it to be a VERY EDUCATIONAL SERIES. It has given me perspectives which i havent even thought about, or have had knowledge of. Ive known maybe one or two Jamaicans who've lived in Tanzania for periods of time, even were married to native Tanzanians, and their perspective is quite the opposite of what was described here. However one eill speak from their own experiences, but the more experience gained.from others will help another to choose with a bit more knowledge of how to navigate around certain pitfalls. I'm an elderly who's been bitten by the travel monster for years, but has never had the courage and moreso the finances to make serious travel moves during my time before getting to this age, and so I find it very pacifying to travel to around the world on other people's experiences, and hope that in my next life on this planet, I will live the life of a world traveller. Thank U Zavier, for helping me to cope with a life unfulfilled this trip. I REALLY DO APPRECIATE.
