Except you're missing the point that less great games come out and more mid to bad experiences have taken their place, especially considering the high budget they still get. I'm not saying gaming is dead, I'm saying take your head out of the sand and admit the current industry is on a downtrend. Look at the industry layoffs and closures since late 2023 and look at me in the face it's going well .

There are entire channels dedicated to talking about all the really horrible games and even game consoles from the 90s. And even in the eighties, there were so many bad games coming out that the entire industry almost fell. It's not that there's just more bad games now. You just don't remember the bad games from the past as well.
No games back then had bugets like that, not just bad ones. The reason hyped games are more likely to turn out bad now is because more games are hyped for now than they ever have been, so it's guaranteed that some of those will be disappointing.
And not just buying the new fancy AAA slop, that will always disappoint you, and give you the same mid experience as last year's game in the series, with a 100% guarantee

I feel like a lot of the 20 somethings today that yearn for the “golden age of gaming” in their youth have completely forgotten about the slew of movie tie in games we were getting in those days.
Except those were low budget filler games. They weren't games that costed hundreds of millions of dollars and it flopping would kill the studio. The AAA industry right now is much weaker than it was in the Golden age. Does good stuff still come out? Yes but not nearly as frequently and good productions are threatened with layoffs and mergers, so some never even got a chance to come out. Though that's been happening since the early 10's too.
The "Gaming Industry" will never die, at thevery least in our hearts, so long as people play games they find FUN, doesn't have to be master graphics or the best story or the best gameplay of course it could be, but so long as games you play are FUN. For example i really enjoyed Marvel's Avengers, although that may be because i never touched the online portion.

I think the difference is a lot of bad games nowadays have giant budgets, so when they fail, they take the studio with it. This isn't unheard of in prior times but it wasn't nearly as often. Game budgets need to be dialed back it's ridiculous.

Recently I’ve realized that gaming isn’t becoming worse, in fact it’s better than ever, I’ve just been playing the same types of games over and over again. I feel like ‘Project Wingman’, a game made by 3 devs helped me realize that I just need to be more open minded. Gaming has been great, gaming is great and gaming always will be great.
When you stop watching TH-cam essays and start playing some actual games - your perspective tends to get brighter in general. It's almost like those essays are overly dramatic and negative for content engagement. But who knows.
Okay, that's first "Little Dark Age" that made me drop a tear. This whole gloom over industry really saddening more than any bad game simply because a lot of them released in years before and there was less of them because good game were fewer too. But let be clear, there was missed opportunity to use footage of modern No Man's Sky that happened to redeem itself after long years of updating. Listen I was not expecting to be battling back tears at 1am, but here I am. I nearly broke when I saw that brief clip of it takes two because I remember playing it with my ex just a few years ago, and that was during what I consider a happier time of my life.
