Hi David. Really interesting. Can I talk to you about a Railways Exhibition here in Annan in July ?

Nice video, I remember my father telling me that tale of the 'drunken' Scot's drowning.

That was the Battle of Solway Moss (1542).
James V had failed to make clear who the commander would be : his court favourite assumed command, a noble from the region did the same.
The Scots army (18k) then capitulated to a much smaller English army (3k).
"The English captured 1200 soldiers including two Earls, five Lords and 500 landowners and noblemen. Additionally they gained 3000 horses, 30 standards, 20 canons, 120 guns and 4 carloads of lances"
Two things happened after the battle :-
      a) Mary was born (queen of scots)
      b) James V died 6 days later
20 key nobles were feted in London, then freed after recognising Henry VIII as guardian of Mary Stewart, and accepting her marriage to young Edward : formalised in the Treaty of Greenwich.
Rejection of this treaty by the pro-French Scottish government led to the disastrously expensive (for England) 8 year war "The Rough Wooing"
