I tried the benevolent bacon in my airfryer and it came out nice and crispy. The “bacon” tasted decent. It doesn’t taste like real bacon of course but it’s a good alternative.
Love these taste tests with the varied crowd, so interesting!👀 Lol I’m vegan and I haven’t had bacon in 15 years....when I was vegetarian I used to eat Morningstar farms bacon-it was so weird but good...but that was like 10 years ago😱😂🤔
I feel like the mushroom bacon would be great in tofu scramble or a breakfast burrito. Maybe some of the others would cook well in an air fryer? I think I'll try that!
This took so much cost & effort and I REALLY appreciate that you did the taste test. Very helpful and your friends seem like they're a lot of fun. I liked that they were so honest, even when it came to bacon you guys had made. 💓🤛🙏
Hey guys! Loved the video! A tip for the “Vegan bacon slices” one, deep fry it in oil to make it crunchy/crispy. I live on O’ahu and Down to Earth ( an awesome vegetarian/vegan grocery store) sells mock BLTS and uses that bacon strips but they say they deep fry it in oil. It’s amazing. Forreal!! 👍
This was fun to watch, when I went vegan I felt like I took everything I used to eat and disect why I ate it. You see it in this vid as well. One talks about texture, one about saltyness. You don't eat bacon (in this case) for the bacon but because it adds something to your dish you like. Can be fat, colour, taste, it can be about anything. For people who are open to it it is soooo fun to journey into why do I eat what I eat. TBH I was never a big animalproduct eater, never ate an egg, never ate cheese besides on pizza, never drank milk, never ate fish, I hated things like sour cream and whipped cream. I did eat chicken and beef in my standard dishes, and used dairy for recipes. It was so much fun to rediscover eating and creating all new dishes based on those findings. I gained so much understanding on why you put an egg or milk in something and learned to replace them in ways that fit my preference the most. Fun vid!
The lightlife smart bacon is my favorite. But you have to cook it longer and make it crispy, not leave it floppy. I’m excited at how accepting the meat eaters were.
I also cook it longer that package says. It always smells like almost burnt popcorn to me. It’s definitely my favorite so far other that the mushroom bacon that I make.
I love these videos because my brother has a sudden onset allergy to most animal products from a tick bite. And so he misses a lot of these foods. I send them to him all the time so he can have the substitutes without getting violently sick. I appreciate you guys so much
I saw a recipe where they took thinly sliced bacon-seasoned mushrooms and wrapped them with the bacon-seasoned rice paper. It gave the finished product more chew but still had that crispy outside. Been meaning to try it!
I love these taste test videos because it really helps me know what to buy and what to avoid. Thank you! I've never seen that All Vegetarian brand here in Orlando, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.
This is super helpful! My husband has been vegetarian for almost a year. I'm not, but end up eating veggie most days because we live together. I appreciate the time you put into this... Definitely going to check out some of these! ♥️
Thank you so much! Becon was one of the hardest things to give up! I'm way excited to try them. Loved how the meat eaters were down for most of them. That gives hope for sure... Keep rockin these vids out please.
This video was great! I laughed out loud a few times, and was able to relate to some of the “bacuns” you all tasted. Need to try a couple of these. Super fun video! Your friends are awesome and tons of fun!
I'm so glad I was a sausage person not a bacon person (never really liked bacon) because a lot of brands have nailed vegan sausage but bacon, ehh not so much😂
I think the biggest problem with vegan alternatives in general is a lack of salt. Not sure why it's such a consistent problem across the board, except maybe they're trying to be healthier? BTW I tried your recipe for the rice paper bacon and that's 100% my favourite for crumbling over salad.
I’m glad you had everyone taste the crispy version of the All Vegetarian Inc’s product to do it justice. Before becoming vegan bacon was one of my favorite meats to eat. That one was the closest to the real thing. I also wish cooking instructions would have been included on the packaging. I fried mines in grapeseed oil and ate it on a BLT sandwich, I was very satisfied. Thank you for your video.
Same. I totally understand and identify. I'd never eaten bacon or sausage until I was in my 20's and even then it was turkey bacon and I'd microwave it until it was stiff as a board. Bacon is just ick tbh
Excited to try some of these! I’ve only had the light life smart bacon and actually love it! You just have to cook it until the edges get crispy and add black pepper and it’s great! (:
Yves bacon baked in the oven for about 15 mins tastes suuuper close to the real deal. When you take it out it's a little flimsy but as it cools it crisps up and is amazinggggggg.
I love this video! First off, the 'tasters' were hilarious! But I really like seeing their opinions on products because I am the only vegan in my family/ friend circle and I am always trying to make vegan things to serve to them to show them that they can be tasty so I definitely value seeing the tasters opinions! Keep up the great videos! Love your channel!
I have only tried one of these. LIghtLife (non tempeh.) I microwaved it, then made them crispier in the air fryer. I didn't even add any oil. Very tasty. It reminded me of turkey bacon that I used to eat. I have bought this more than once. I like it! Bonus- very little added oil per serving.
I wasn't into bacon even when I was a meat eater, but I really like making a sandwich with Benevolent Bacon and a slice of Follow Your Heart smoked gouda.
I’m not vegan but I’m binge watching your videos. Love the effort you guys put in for your videos. It’s very informative and makes me want to try them for when I eventually transition
You undercooked the Smart Bacon which is what it was soft. If you cook it crispy it’s better. It need to be cooked with oil and if you bake it off in the oven that helps. Took me a while to figure out how to cook with it but eventually figured out the best way to cook it up💯🥓

I’ve been vegan for 9 years and never really ate much bacon growing up so, what I remember of the actual taste of bacon is very little. I’ve personally only tried the Sweet Earth brand for bacon and though I don’t feel it tastes exactly like what I remember, it has a nice smokey flavor and I put it in BLTs and veggie burritos and it adds a nice meatiness and smokiness to your dish. MUST READ MY COMMENT: The Sweet Earth Benevolent Bacon is definitely the best out of all of these but from my DEEP experimentation with this bacon you HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO use a cast iron with this and cook it low and slow that's the only way it will get that crispy "bacon" texture without ruining the beautiful flavor it has. Then, it helps to remove it from the pan and let it rest for 3-5 minutes. I was determined to figure out how to get this bacon just right because its the only one my super market sold for the longest time. #BLT Thank you Jasmine and Chris for always making such genuine videos! I never miss any of your posts!
That was a great video. I haven't had bacon in 18 years. There is a company in Canada (based in BC) called Happy Veggie World and they make an awesome Vegan Bac'n. It tastes very similar to what I remember bacon tasting like. :)
