  • Shimano's Curado DC reels have enabled many anglers to access the benefits of casting with a baitcaster. Shimano’s innovative and unique Digital Control braking technology utilises a microcomputer to monitor spool speed 1,000 times every second and apply the perfect amount of brake to prevent backlash and maximise casting accuracy and distance.
In 2022, a new 200 size Curado DC opens the door to a greater range of fishing possibilities. Increased spool capacity allows anglers to fish heavier line classes for added security and the ability to cast bigger, heavier lures with ease.
Curado DC 200 is available in High Gear (HG) and Extra High Gear (XG) variations in right hand configuration, with a High Gear (HG) model available in left hand configuration.

Got an old 150 lefty and order XHG from the US, running 45lbs Fins 40g which is wafer thin fantastic, a bit sketchy land based between mangroves on the bigger fish as the drag is quite low on such a small reel and you can’t skull drag them out, added onto a Dobyns Fury 735C, can’t go wrong, throws 7grams up to 50gram swim baits

Can you tell me how the break is applied by the computer chip?
I understand how the chip could sense the speed the spool is spinning but how does it apply a break?
Does it somehow engage a mechanical break?

Hi Dean, there is special magnets inside the DC chip which engage to slow down the spool RPM to help prevent the potential for a backlash. This video below takes you through the DC technolgoy in greater detail.

@@ShimanoAustralia so there are electromagnets inside that the reel somehow powers up, producing a magnetic field, then switches them on and off at a crazy high frequency to slow the spool?

Get it on sale at BCF, otherwise a Shimano Tranx beats it hands down, it’s a nice finesse reel throwing line on setting 2 but it’s a nice gimmick worth playing with occasionally
