I bought one of these revolvers about five years ago and I loved it. Mine had a black grip not the grey. My wife saw me practicing with it, tried it herself and then suddenly it became HER every day carry 😆.

Absolutely appreciate this video tremendously! As a novice gun carrier , I was googling this gun and this video popped up! Taught me so much about this gun in a very short period of time. I couldn’t even find this level of info on the S&W website. The gun has been sitting in my cart 🛒 for sometime, but you sir have given me the confidence to pull the trigger to buy. Thank u!

I carry one and never feel unarmed! Thanks for the great review. It's more accurate than one would think. I agree the cylinder release is a bit awkward and the cylinder rotates like a colt. I'll keep mine forever. It's a keeper.

A very good option. I traded one off because of the cylinder release. It was not a problem with the gun itself, it was that after carrying traditional revolvers for so many years I just couldn't make the switch. Under stress I would always reach for a side release and that wasn't going to work. A new shooter would have no issue at all with it since they would have nothing to unlearn.

I love a tight barrel/cylinder gap on a revolver. I’ve seen 2 inch guns shoot with more velocity than a 4 inch gun that had a larger gap. Great video sir. Make more!

I have always liked this channel because it’s not about the new hotness (some new gun that just came out) it’s more about reviewing random guns that your unfamiliar with or that have fallen off the radar. To me this would be a good back up weak hand gun. Ambi release so let’s say your main sidearm and your strong hand go down and your forced to make a shot with weak hand. Granted the trigger is pretty heavy for accurate shots at distance especially with your weaker hand. And the way i see it yes semi mag fed guns have their advantages. Faster mag reloads more ammo etc. If it’s close as most encounters malfunctions can happen with a semi. Where as with a revolver the cylinder just rotates. This doesn’t mean that failures with a revovler dont happen or anything. And when they do they are not as easy to fix in the field. (Imagine your cylinder ceasing in a gun fight). Just trying to say revolvers have there merit.

    Greetings,
    Wow! What a stellar review!
I love your easy going delivery, cartridge recommendations, and the information packed review. The best review I have watched in the long video list for the S&W Bodyguard.38 Special +P.
I was looking for a reliable, inexpensive home protection weapon and stumbled on this pistol only today. With your high recommendation and the extra features on this pistol, it is hard to ignore it as a likely candidate. On the strength of your fine review, I will be speaking to my gunsmith in the next week.
    Thanks again Mr. B. Quinn.

I bought one when they came out. It was working great ,then after 200 + in rapid fire something popped and locked it up. I called S&W and no charge or hassle mailing , it went to their preformance center for complete rehall and mailed it back in a week + batts for the lazer. Been perfect since. So light you forget you have it. But glad you do. I Sighted the lazer at 25' I put snap rounds in it 1st so my kids could get the DA feel before shooting live. And as I hoped someone "HOGUE!" made a great after market grip for big hands. I' ve had no problem with it or the Insight lazer except sometimes hard to find in bright sun conditions. Green would be better. But still light weight and super concealed and 38+ P many great defense rounds out there.

I liked the concept, but have only fired one several years ago. The individual who owned it hadn’t had much experience with revolvers (among other things), and kept hitting at the bottom edge of an FBI-style Q target at 5 & 7!yards. When told to aim higher, he claimed he was holding center mass. I then fired the gun and got the same results. I switched to the laser and found that it only worked intermittently and wasn’t dialed in anyway. An examination revealed that the front sight was all kinds of loose. The revolver didn’t seem to show any damage or abuse that I can recall. I enlightened the shooter that S&W had a great lifetime warranty, but he was intent on trading it for something else (in the next case he got a cheap micro semi auto that wouldn’t work either). I don’t know what the Bodyguard’s problem was - either one that slipped thru the quality control cracks during or following the Hysteria of 2013, or the current or previous owner had done something silly to it themselves. Anyway, it was probably an exception. S&W ought to consider chambering this one in 9mm and .22LR/WMR. Great video review.

I bought one of these. Mine would not fire the first shot most the time, the trigger would sometimes just not let you pull it, and the grip had a massive gap at the top of the Backstrap. Was my worse gun I purchased. Had problems within the second cylinder. I brought it back to the Gunstore. They sent it off to be repaired, and gave me store credit. I got me a 642-2 that has been great

    • @Gunblastdotcom
      @Gunblastdotcom  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

"Better" is hard to say. I like the Taurus just fine, but I do own more Charter revolvers than Tauruses (Tauri?). Also, Charters are made in the USA, if that makes a difference. I would not recommend them over the S&W Bodyguards, but I do think they are just as good. Whichever you prefer, you would be well armed.

i had the early version with laser and needed some cash and sold it. Month or 2 later replaced it wit a lcr 357. First off, 357 outta that IS BRUTAL!!! Not to metion it may deafen you. Anyhoo, i just didnt bond with it. it carried heavy, did not draw well, and i just did not like it as well as bg38. It was prolly a better made gun but i like the weight longer extraction rod and cylnder realese of bg38. sooo, went to my local shop and swapped that lcr for a brand new bg38 no laser straight up!! I never trained with the laser anyhoo. mabe ok for certian situation, but draw and shoot sd.... let er rip! lol. nice review sir.

I bought one of these off of someone who was moving out of the country. She had purchased it "just to have" and never shot it. So far, neither have I, even though it been several months now. I have multiple other .38 snubs (as well as other handguns); this one is the only truly ambidextrous, one-handed cylinder release of which I am aware. Where was this design when this left-handed cop was packing .38 wheelguns back in the eighties? ;-)
Incidentally, this is not a J-frame. It is a completely different firearm that shares no compatible parts (other than maybe the front sight) with any of the other Smith and Wesson .38 snubs, and the venerable J-frame line is still in production, offering frames of steel, aluminum and (I think) titanium.

She has always shot RH, but now, in Silver Twilight, she's losing hand strenght. Not bad, yet, but enough to become annoying. Finding a new revolver has become a Unicorn hunt. She carried my Colt for while, but it is heavy for CC. I been checking this Smif& Western for for 'bout a week, AND, up pops ur vid. I am playing it LOUDLY, and repeatedly. She's looked up , TWICE!! Sorry, I do not. Jeff's guns were sold at auction, and I was able to buy a few of them, but I don't know where these ended up. I did shoot them with Jeff while he was still around, though, and they are great pistols. Jeff had good reason for considering them his favorites, and his go-to carry pistols.

Hey Boge, can you please tell me the best place to buy ammo for that 38? I'm tired of being raped on ammo out here by me. I know you can buy yours cheaper. Thank you

Edit..then sold the 640 and bought another Bodyguard with a Hogue grip, really enjoying this better a second time around.
I bought one of these when they were first released, then I handled a 640 Pro. Sold the bodyguard!

A wonderful EDC too. I don’t care what anybody says.
I’d bet my life on it anytime.

I have never shot a gun and never want to go to the shooting range. But I want to protect me and my child. There have been break-ins. I've been looking at The bodyguard revolver. I can buy one I passed the background check. I don't want to ever use one unless it's an emergency but I want to have it fully loaded. Do you just load this with 38 bullets close it and then shoot when you need it? That's all I need to know is there anything you need to do before you shoot it. I just want to know for an emergency. I ordered the Smith & Wesson without the Red Dot now I wish I got the Red Dot. I got the revolver because I don't know how to load and unload a semi-automatic thank you very much

It is an EXTREMELY bad idea to attempt to protect yourself and your family using a firearm with zero training and zero experience. In a defensive situation, there is no time to think, only react, and those reactions must be ingrained into your mind with proper training. Actions taken under distress must be immediate and instinctive. A firearm is a deadly weapon, and can easily be misused or even turned against an untrained person. Just as you would not put someone behind the wheel of an automobile for the first time in highway traffic, you should not fire a gun for the first time in a stressful defensive situation. This revolver is an excellent choice, for the reasons you cite, but PLEASE, get trained!

@@Gunblastdotcom okay I will. I'm going to try to find a shooting range that offers training. Somebody tried to break into our home while I was home alone with my daughter. I'm just desperate for protection and I'm actually looking at videos of how to load a revolver. It looks like the easiest option in case of an emergency but you're right I probably should know more about this

@@Lopezflies888 Loading procedure will be in the Owner's Manual. Loading a revolver is easy, and is one of the reasons a revolver works well for novice shooters. God bless you in your attempts to protect your family.
