    Custom birdhouses,
    One of a kind birdhouses,
    Sell birdhouses,
    Make money selling birdhouses,
    Bird house to make,
    Birdhouse feeders,
I have had so many requests to find the marine hot glue I thought I'd add the link here.
It wasn't easy to find and I have to apologize to those who I have sent to the wrong place! Here is the correct link: glu-stix-online.com
They sell a ton of different glues so the best bet is to call them and ask for what you need. 1-877-770-5500.
Tuff-Tac ® High Performance - For Metal, Plastics, & Ceramics - Black or Clear
Regular price$66.00 this is what I have used and was told that buyers use this in the marine industry.
I'll show you how I create a birdhouse that I will sell at one of the festivals that I work during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. This is the beginning of a series of videos on building birdhouses. Please subscribe to see the up coming works in process.

Referring to the hole for the bird entrance she says..."I'm not really sure where it goes in the end and I really like to see it as a whole". Not only is she skilled as a bird house maker but she's really good at puns too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Four yeara ago I made 10 nest houses for sparrows and/ or chicka dees, etc -- small birds. I made mine out of cedar fence wood, which is about 5/8 thick and are glued and nailed together. One side swings up open to clean out. It has a small dowel to act as a perch below the opening. I got the plans from a bird house book. Each year I have beween 5 and 8 momma birds using them. I had a tray of molten bees wax for water proofing the top and sides. It is not necessary to coat the insides. It's a lot of fun sitting in a chair, watching the little birds at home doing bird stuff. And a short PS here -- I keep bees and do NOT poison flowers of any kind or kill insects that the birds need for food. Curses to all you Monsanto product users. Bob in Montana, where it is finally looking like spring....

@@andrewj99 pine boards typicically have more turpines than other wood species. Cedar has a smell that is unmistakable. But if one is worried about the aroma, store it in an unheated ( or uncooled) shed for 6 to 12 months. Fence boards from Home Depot can be wet from a mill and should be seasoned anyway so they can shrink to final width which will be around 5 1/2". The fence boards that I used were extras from someone's fence project. There was no smell except from being cut. Then I heated up a tray of bees wax to coat the outside before I nailed it together. These little nest boxes should last 10 years without falling apart and should never rot away. Pine will require a paint job every so many years. When I was a beekeeper, I had to paint my pine hive boxes about every 3 or 4 years. Bob

Thanks Bob, for all the great info! We need more support for our environment, and easier ways to stay natural without the chemicals they put in everything, mold and mildew killers in paint, the wax is a great alternative! Soaked into a fabric, that gives me some ideas! Oh, the knowledge we have lost!

@@andrewj99 as long as it is not treated, or moldy, most native woods such as cherry, basswood, aspen, oak, ash, or so many others, would be fine.

Nice job! I've made few for the yard here. The copper roof reminded me of a trick I've used. I take the thin tall aluminum cans (like from ice tea), cut the ends off, cut the length, then unroll it flat. I cut it into strips 1/4" wider than my steel ruler. I use the ruler as a form to bend up a 1/8" lip along each side, forming a shallow tray. I staple these next to each other on the roof. A piece without the lips bent in the center makes a ridge cap. When painted, it makes a fair approximation of metal roofing.
I also tried leaving the can flat and unpainted as a sort of tribute to the old "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" barns. It faded too much though.

Nice video. Depending where the box is to be placed it is usually best to leave off the Perspex. The whole idea for nesting in a tree or box is that it is safe and birds especially when egg laying can be scared and permanently leave the eggs. Anything from other birds or blown up items in the air can spook them if they can see outside. Best left in the dark and cosy.

You definately have your own style!
I'm a retired carpenter and I enjoy building birdhouse's too, it helps keep my mind occupied and gives me something constructive to do!
I get depressed if I sit around too long and my anxiety starts getting to me! I had a doctor give me pill's to take to calm me down, but that didn't last long, I didn't like the way they made me feel so I said to heck with the doctor and his pill's, I just have to stay busy, at the end of the day I like to know that I accomplished something positive and I get a good feeling knowing that I gave my feathered friend's a sturdy structure where they are safe from the element's and where they can raise their babie's in and in turn have them protect my garden from harmful insect's, they're happy and I'm happy lol! 😁
My original reason for commenting was that copper ridge cap, I wanted to bring it to your attention that those brad nail's you used will most likely leak after a while, you should seal them from the underside before you nail them! I'm not try'ing to criticize your work or anything, I just wanted to point that out to you!
I enjoyed your video, you have a creative mind and that's a good thing!
    God Bless You!

Hi Mike. I totally get the staying busy process. The Lord never meant for us to be idle in my opinion Rest yes but not idle.
I never thought about the nails leaking. Actually I see my bird houses as sculptures first and function second. I am an artist first and builder second. You may be the opposite of that.
In any event I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. Subscriptions, likes and comments help me grow this channel!! Lord bless you too. Melanie

I swear we are related; I paint wall murals and upcycle stuff to stay busy. No joke I turned my husband shop into a medieval castle with faux looking iron bars and big old blacksmith rivets. The walls I made like a log cabin and the logs look realistic. My mind doesn’t shutdown, just plagued with ideas..I swear I can look at something and an idea comes in my head, I have to write it down because my head just explodes with ideas. My 2 best friends since 1976 every time one of them have moved they always ask me what would I do with this room or the back yard. When I was young I wanted to go to interior decorating school but my dad talked me out of it by telling me it required a lot of heavy lifting. I am self taught but I really wish I would have followed my heart.

The joy of seeing a family of bluebirds move into one of the houses I built is satisfying. The western bluebird male's vibrant shade of blue is breathtaking....birds don't need a perch and in fact it makes it easier for predators to access the nestlings, though your bamboo is a great deterrent. The birds just hold onto to the hole to look around or peek out when inside which is very cute. You have some whimsical designs. I'm not sure that most birds will like having window, though. Cavity nesters usually prefer holes in trees that are dark and secure.

A suggestion:before assembling, brush on a coat or two of Thompson’s Water Seal, on both sides. Helps protect bird house from deteriorating in wet climes. Polyacrylic water based varnish only eventually will peel off, leaving wood unprotected.

Similar to what is called battenboard and you did a wonderful job , looks really nice ! Couple tips ...work from the top down making your pieces as long as possible, less chance of leaks . Any overhang from the roof is a major plus . Any leak down the road needs to be avoided . 35 yrs. of framing custom homes has taught me that much . I'm not being critical , I hope you know that . Beautiful work ! Looking forward to your upcoming videos.

    Very nice!
Two things I would have done different:
I would have run a batten horizontally along the end grain edge of the removeable bottom piece of the birdhouse, (on both sides) and butted the others up against it.
I would have also made that bottom piece about a quarter of an inch longer on each side so that the bottom of the plexiglass had something to rest on.

Seems like. fun to design and a reasonable to build.

You need to build your self a bench hook. It will make cutting those small pieces a piece cake and also a cheap gent saw. I used these items very frequent and they make cutting small pieces safe and efficient. Thanks for the helpful video.

For anyone making birdhouses. Birds don't need a perch at the opening of the house. A perch can actually allow predators, like snakes, to enter the birdhouse.

I love making bird houses and feeders, and I am lucky in that I have a well-appointed Woodshop to do this in. I love your board and batten house. It is so cute. The one suggestion I would have would be to create cross-ventilation, so the little birdies don't get overheated. I found the easiest way to do this is to cut the sides slightly shorter than necessary, and leaving the gap underneath the roof overhangs. Keep up the good work!

    • @I-build-crafts
      @I-build-crafts  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the suggestion. Please know these bird houses are not airtight, that is for sure. I guess those things don’t show up in the video, but there is an evaluation and clean out and a few other things that are more hidden I suppose. Thanks for liking sharing and subscribing.

I absolutely LOVE the viewing aspect of these houses. We are always looking for new and improved bird houses for the workers in our garden - the ones that do the insect control for us - and that is a very nice way to do it! 👍👍 (135,768 views on today, may 18, 2022 .. AWESOME work!) Bees wax + mineral spirits is something that I used to make as a side hustle - 'conjurer's wax', used by stage magicians for - I'm not going to reveal trade secrets 😉 Creators ROCK!

As a builder may I offer a few tips. You may benefit from doing pre - assembly on many of these parts - ie use a assembly line approach - make 20 of each board/batten or the walks - then you are just doing a final assembly. This of course is only a suggestion and if you enjoy making unique each time then I understand. You make great videos and I get little tips from your work. Cheers!

I recommend you get an oscillating tool for some of your cuts. It replaces chisels and other cutting tools and you can get them with a triangle shaped sanding attachment that's very handy. You might need to set up a rest of some sort for your arms to hold it steady, but I make nice cuts with ours a lot remodeling old houses. You could use it instead of the hand saw you tried on the oak, for cutting little trim pieces. I would definitely want one for making bird houses.
