    And it ends with the one I was looking for, the Sno Jet. Tons of great memories. The Yamaha with the offset headlight, and the Arctic Cat leopard print seat covers were awesome! I was also looking for the line of John Deere’s. I didn’t see any Trailfires or Liquifires. Thank you for keeping these machines in working order AND sharing them with the rest of us!

    Rode a 1970 Polaris TX 340 with short seat and a 12" track. Ride for 1 day if you're lucky, then replace cleats and fix all week. Then do it all over again....ride for a day.........fix all week! But it was fun!

    Dad had a Skidoo alpine 440 which I rode sometimes when I was 13 or 14. DONT GET ONE STUCK! Trying to lift, drag, and heave them around to go back the way you came from while in deep snow was enough to give a 14 year old a heart attack!😅

      Had a Rupp wasn’t a bad sled. Had a Chaparelle but parts were a bitch. But for my old sleds, my favourite was my old 74 Merc 440SR. Fun sled just don’t get it stuck.
      *and the lil skidoo (alouette?) tiny machine but in deep ditches I could darn near barrel roll it😂.

      My buddy had a Rupp nitro with tuned exhaust in the mid 70s. Loud! Probably 80 mph top end which was crazy fast back then. I had a Skidoo 335 super Olympic and a nordic 440 twin. Ah, the memories.

    That old single ski yellow one with the trailer would be my favorite! It appeared to have two tracks? Maybe just one really wide one, either way I bet it was the beast to have back in the day! Pulling shanties out to the lake, hauling firewood, groceries, hay for the horses, dragging deer and moose from the woods! Don't forget the all important task of pulling 14 sleds at once so all the kids in the neighborhood didn't have to walk with their skates on down to the lake to skate for the day! Lolol the good old days!

    I used to eat sleep and breathe vintage snowmobiles. Back then they were not very expensive and I was buying them by the trailerfull.. Its still fun seeing the old racers. Many were modified stock sleds. There were very few guys that would do speed builds set up just for racing. Back in the day, every manufacterer was making snowmobiles. Now there are just a few.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Clyde Triplett no , not that much. I worked for a small engine shop that got over 100 vintage sleds in all conditions. I got the job of cutting up the bad ones for scrap and saving the parts that were usable. I figure I restored probably 50 vintage snowmobiles that all found good homes. Here in Northern Mi, its not all that hard to find old sleds yet. I started out having to buy all my parts through Dennis Kirk. They had a catalogue of after market parts for almost all brands. I started out working out of a Sears metal storage shed. lol. Those were the days!

    I may be a kill-joy, but I'll tell you. I like the old machines better. These space age things they make now aren't anything that I want. They are too complicated and WAY to expensive. Re-make the old ones again and I'll buy one. Kinda like the 57 chev. They had personality . If they made those again, with a decent price tag, I'd buy one.
